pirates sucked bad, compared to superman.....its not even a contest.

The question is who wins box office, and it is clear that Pirates beat Supe at the BO.

And I do enjoy Pirates more than Superman.

Just to make it clear where the $260M comes from

WB-

SR budget-$204M
marketing-$55M

I think you can be right.

But remember that the same happened with Spidey 1, when nobody think that some movie will ever break it's record, and after 4 years, POTC2 did it.

So we expect new record in 2010-2011

The only question is what movie will do that.

Batman Begins sequel....?:D

Remember the first POTC was a sleeper hit, and made money 'overtime', as did Batman Begins. Now that people have a redeemed faith in the Batman franchise with Begins as the proof, i can honestly see the sequel doing 100 million+ at the B.O.......i hope...

Now all we need is for Uma Thurmans 'My super Ex-Girlfriend' Box Office to break Superman Returns opening weekend to really rub salt into the wounds of the Superman fans!:p

I thought the $55M was attributed to the cost of the failed Superman projects from years past.

I heard that the budget was 360million but that included the failed Superman pojects.

I was glad to hear that I was wrong.

I thought Supes was good, but crap, POTC2 was just so damn better. I hope both do great.

POTC2 made 132 million this weekend.
So glad someone handed Spider-man's ass to him.

With higher ticket prices it's inevitable that we will continue to see new records.

Actually, that's not true according to my opinion. SR was a good film, but not a great film. POTC 2 on the other hand, had all the pieces of the puzzle to make a great film, and they were put together very well.

In terms of box office, POTC 2 blows SR out of the water (pun intended). In terms of films, SR is good, but POTC 2 was epic good, and had people leaving the theatre wanting more. When SR ended, people weren't really that awed by it in the same way POTC 2 had people. Besides, POTC 2 climaxed with Captain Jack Sparrow facing off (quite literally) the belly of the beast in a climactic confrontation. Superman lifted a rock. The ending twist of the return of Captain Barbarossa to lead Jacks' crew in the third film to the ends of the earth was a whole lot more thrilling than finding out Superman had a son. Superman having a son really was one element that assisted in bringing that film down, and hasn't connected.

SR just didn't connect with the fans in the way that POTC 2 did. That's why it isn't performing as well. To tell the truth, I'm actually half tempted to see DWP not only because Anne Hathaway is hot, but because that film actually has been competitive with SR in a way that it really shouldn't have been. I'm not sure if that is because DWP is so good, or SR is so poor, but there's got to be a reason. Either one doesn't fare well for SR. Performance-wise and budget-wise, that film may actually be one of the major winners of the summer and really give her some decent clout that she (IMO) deserves as an actress and allow her to transition to more adult films in a way that many of her contemporaries haven't been able to transition from the kiddie roles.

Once again, Pirates delivers a too long of a film that felt like it was 4 hours long. I fell asleep during the first film, and this did the same thing to me almost. The first hour had some fun stuff, but that's about it..........

Records are made to be broken, so congrats to Bruckheimer, but overall, Supes was the better made film.

Not necessarily. If ticket prices continue to raise the same way gas prices do, then I figure in ten years, the average movie ticket will cost somewhere around $70,000. So that means if 10,000 people see the movie, it will be the highest grossing picture of all time.

LOL.

Higher ticket prices, that goes into inflation and from what TheThing use to say in the FF threads that he doesn't think inflation is to be taken into account.

Money doesn't mean is the movie good or not.

Why then critics liked?

We can say it was good or not, if we liked it.

He liked it more than POTC2, and that is his openion, you cant change him.
