fact - hemp grows naturally all over the world save for the poles (of course)

fact - hemp can be used for multiple purposes such as medical, nutrition, hygiene, paper, rope, cloth, construction, plastics, etc.

fact - in most of those cases, hemp is the strongest or most efficient

fact - america prematurely made hemp illegal without first conducting proper tests on the it's effects (at the time there were people who thought hemp made people into crazy murderers and rapists)

fact - before America made it illegal, hemp was (and still is in most countries) a very common resource

fact - more people smoke hemp than you think. http://frankdiscussion.netfirms.com/who_celebtokers.html

And now some of the bad facts maybe?

this may sound harsh to some of the more religious posters on this board, but i find it somewhat ironic that many christian conservatives are against drugs in general, since most people think of them as tools for escapism, while many non-religious folks, like myself, think of religion in the same light.

Fact - More Drivers in Car Accidents are under the influence of MJ than Alcohol

Considering it alters brain function. Look at some studies that link weed to shizophrenia and other mental illnesses.

Nictotine atlers your brain chemicals, so does booze.
Frankly, I think that tobacco has a better case for being banned than weed does.
Also, those "studies" about weed linked to mental illness are bull toast. I think you pulled those out of your ass, I'd like to see a link to those studies.

Where's this link that shows this "fact"?

I'm not defending crack or meth or even LSD, but those aren't the same as weed. The largest danger with smokin' weed is being a lazy ass.

this fact has no foundation. weed stays in your system for much longer than it keeps you stoned, which is why that fact is crap.

Fact - Marijuana can slow your ability to learn

Fact - Marjuana contains some (And sometimes More) of the same cancer causing substances found in tobacco.

Fact - Animal studies have found that THC can damage the cells and tissues in the body that help protect against disease. When the immune cells are weakened you are more likely to get sick.

Fact - Marijuana has serious harmful effects on the skills required to drive safely: alertness, concentration, coordination, and reaction time. Marijuana use can make it difficult to judge distances and react to signals and sounds on the road.

Marijuana may play a role in car accidents. In one study conducted in Memphis, TN, researchers found that, of 150 reckless drivers who were tested for drugs at the arrest scene, 33 percent tested positive for marijuana, and 12 percent tested positive for both marijuana and cocaine. Data have also shown that while smoking marijuana, people show the same lack of coordination on standard "drunk driver" tests as do people who have had too much to drink

Fact - one animal study has linked marijuana use to loss of the fetus very early in pregnancy

Fact - Research shows that the earlier people start using drugs, the more likely they are to go on to experiment with other drugs.

Fact - when young people start using marijuana regularly, they often lose interest and are not motivated to do their schoolwork.

Fact - Dn't ****ing say Marijuana is Harmless, I have seen too many friends throw theirl lives away and become the human equivalent of a runny **** because of Marijuana and only Marijuana, so Dont ****ING tell me it's Harmless.

Yes actually look it up, more drivers in accidents are found to be high rather than drunk.

Two things:

1. I don't think that people should be thrown in jail for possesion. Confiscation is what they do here I believe.

2. My first post was kind of pretty much satirical (hence the "No way") But I wanted to parade my 10,000 posts so I just kept the stance.

it depends on how much weed you have, how many times you got caught, and which state you got caught. In my state your second offense is a felony and you go to jail for months.

Not to mention, way more baggage comes with getting caught than just getting caught, and even not getting caught. You would have to see it really to understand it.

I know from first hand experience and just witnessing every day things, that criminilizing weed makes the drug 10 times more harmful to society than it would be if it were legal.

even in a conservative red state like nebraska, where i live, i think the penalty for getting caught with anything less than an ounce on you is like $175 and confiscation of your weed. it's not a big deal, really, but i do think it should be legalized. i'm fairly confident that within the next 20 years pot will be made legal. it's all a matter of time. once the older, more conservative generation dies out we'll see a more progressive national attitude unfold, like butterfly emerging from it's restrictive cocoon... errr... something like that. dude, i can totally taste colors!

it will happen faster than you think. the civil rights era teens who went way liberal will soon make up the retiree vote. Seniors are way more likely to vote because they get kind of bored and young people think they have better things to do. And those baby boomers are about to retire now.

Hells no, Legalizing it will be the downfall of society.

I am not looking forward to the ever looming day where Canada legalizes it.....we are gonna get so many ****ty little bastard american tourists just looking to smoke, at lease my home isn't right beside the border.

How would society downfall from smoking it legally anymore than it is from them smoking it illegally?

So can alcohol. These effects are temporary.

Fact - Marjuana contains some (And sometimes More) of the same cancer causing substances found in tobacco.
Cheeseburgers cause heart disease, should they be illegal?

Fact - Animal studies have found that THC can damage the cells and tissues in the body that help protect against disease. When the immune cells are weakened you are more likely to get sick.
Then why are cancer and AIDS victims prescribed medical marijuana by doctors on a regular basis?

Fact - Marijuana has serious harmful effects on the skills required to drive safely: alertness, concentration, coordination, and reaction time. Marijuana use can make it difficult to judge distances and react to signals and sounds on the road.
So does talking on cell phones does that mean we should make cell phone use illegal for everybody at all times?

Driving drunk is far more dangerous than driving high on weed, yet alcohol is still legal. Go figure.

Fact - one animal study has linked marijuana use to loss of the fetus very early in pregnancy
Pregnant women shouldn't smoke period. That doesn't mean we should all behave as if we're pregnant.

Fact - Research shows that the earlier people start using drugs, the more likely they are to go on to experiment with other drugs.
Once someone does something illegal they're more likely to do other illegal activities. Another reason to legalize marijuana.

Fact - when young people start using marijuana regularly, they often lose interest and are not motivated to do their schoolwork.
Adults should be free to as they please as long as their not hurting others.

Fact - Dn't ****ing say Marijuana is Harmless, I have seen too many friends throw theirl lives away and become the human equivalent of a runny **** because of Marijuana and only Marijuana, so Dont ****ING tell me it's Harmless.
Criminalizing marijuana is far more harmful than the plant itself. :yay:

Show of hands here.

Raise your hand if it's "cool" to pay to have sex with "sweedish supermodels" AKA common street ****es.
Raise your other hand if you believe that a student without a job can afford this.

That's a cheap shot that's irrelevant to anything. And I think it'd be pretty cool to have sex with a super model either way. who cares what the reason is they are having sex with you? Probably pretty expensive though.

but they should also legalize prostitution.

people get arrested because it's illegal
gangs kill each other over drug selling territory because it's illegal
and lots of other stuff because it's illegal.

Marijuana is not better than alcohol or tabacco, it's not worse either.

The real problem with mj and the rest of all the illegal drugs, besides the abuse, is all those criminals getting rich by selling it illegally.

Drug traffickers cause a lot of harm to society and I'm not talking about drug addiction.

that is a lie. That is a complete lie.

For one thing 50% of the drivers involved in car accidents are not at fault for the accident.

Secondly how on earth would anybody know that? There is no way to test somebody for being high. You can only test to see if they smoked it in the last month. The effects last for two hours. Not to mention weed does not impair you like that. It's not alcohol, and it's not LSD. It isn't even tylenol PM for crying out loud.

Pot and prostitution cause more crime being illegal than they do being banned.
With no drug dealers or pimps you would be surprised how different this country would be. Neo-cons seem to ignore the Netherlands.

here it is :woot:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15145917/

Marijuana may help stave off Alzheimer’s

Active ingredient in pot may help preserve brain function

Seeing as how smoking is one of the leading cause of health-related deaths
and alcohol is the largest contributor for vehicular accidents and wreckless behavior, I don't see those two substances being legal creates a winning argument for legalizing marijuana.

Society is better off having the least number of people using marijuana as possible. Everyone wants to talk about "civil rights", but we're all paying millions in tax dollars for people who are in critical condition due to their horrible addictions to alcohol and cigarettes.
Your "civil right":whatever: is creating a burden on me and everyone else. I don't see the reason for legalizing destructive behavior.

I'm not saying we should ban smoking or alcohol. However, many businesses, college campuses, and even entire countries are moving towards creating a 100% smoke-free environment because they see the long term advantages of removing that carcinogen out of our environment. Having more stoned people in the population isn't doing a service to anyone.

<<<cant wait to get off work and smoke a doobie on the drive home.

Lets say it's legal.
You're walking down the street and a bunch of people are smoking pot in public view. They keep smoking and smoking. People walk by and catch the fumes. Someone who wasn't smoking starts to drive and his reaction time is messed up as a result of the smokers. He gets into a car accident and people are killed.
is this serious? BWHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAH
