If I want to use a mind altering substance in the privacy of my own home it's none of your business and none the government's business. It's my mind and body NOT yours, so back off.SentinelMind said:Seeing as how smoking is one of the leading cause of health-related deaths
and alcohol is the largest contributor for vehicular accidents and wreckless behavior, I don't see those two substances being legal creates a winning argument for legalizing marijuana.
Society is better off having the least number of people using marijuana as possible. Everyone wants to talk about "civil rights", but we're all paying millions in tax dollars for people who are in critical condition due to their horrible addictions to alcohol and cigarettes.
Your "civil right"is creating a burden on me and everyone else. I don't see the reason for legalizing destructive behavior.
I'm not saying we should ban smoking or alcohol. However, many businesses, college campuses, and even entire countries are moving towards creating a 100% smoke-free environment because they see the long term advantages of removing that carcinogen out of our environment. Having more stoned people in the population isn't doing a service to anyone.
Throwing people in jail for obtaining a plant which is less addictive and harmful than alcohol or cigarettes is far more destructive than the plant itself.
And there are far worse things than being stoned like being a narrow-minded prude. What a waste of energy and time.
