Hi everyone,

I adore the marvel flicks like everyone but I think we can all agree with some exceptions like Steve and Peggy, romance in marvel movies has been…less than good. Specifically the awkwardness in the eternals movies.

I could see this being an issue going forward especially for really important romances like Reed and Sue or rogue and gambit, Scott, Jean, Emma, wolverine etc. How would you rate romance in marvel films and how would you improve them?

I like MJ and Peter. I think they were adorable. And I also like the idea of them moving on from MJ so Peter can navigate through other relationships. Felicia would be nice now.
Then MJ could be brought back a few movies later, which I think it could be more emotional and rewarding.

The other relationships in the MCU, I don't care much. They're not very appealing enough to me or have interesting conflicts. Maybe Rogue and Gambit could change that.

The rest, I don't know. As long and they keep Logan away from Jean this time, I'll be fine.

What about the spread the reporter did on Mr. Stark?

Yeah.....anywhere from less than stellar to cringeworthy (Brutasha).

I think Portman just mailed it in for Thor and to this day I don't know why they brought her back. Tony and Pepper was just okay. I think the jury is out for AntMan and Dr Strange. I don't think this will necessarily be a problem going forward. Different directors, different writers, different actors, etc.

I mean granted most of their love story was fleshed on tv with WandaVision, but whoever Feige casts for Sue/Reed, Rogue/Gambit, Jean/Scott etc needs to have the same chemistry and energy as Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.

Scarlet Witch and Vision are hands down the most romantic and believable couple in the MCU. Steve and Bucky also were a good couple but that’s up to interpretation lol.

If it wasn't for those two, especially after WandaVision, I would almost be inclined to think the MCU has Akira Toriyama syndrome when it comes to handling romance.

There's Rictor and Shatterstar coming too. But I'm keeping my expectations very, very low because, you know... Disney.

Yeah I still have hope. One of the best of the most recent ones was Gilgamesh and Athena but I think that was mostly the actors skills on display. I think they just need to take more time with it, don’t just jam them together with a kiss at the end for a happy ending

I’d say Tony/Pepper, Steve/Peggy, Thor/Jane, MJ/Pete are all pretty good in their own ways. The main problem with Jane IMO is simply that they sidelined her.

The rest, not so much.

Honestly, given the choice between "big narrative focus on the romance" vs "let the actors use their skill at acting and just get out of their way", I generally lean to the latter. Not all stories need to be "love stories", they can instead be stories in which people just are clearly in love and love each other.

Also, this thread is missing one of the best romances in the whole setting: Clint and Laura Barton. :p

I think their relationship was ok and not as bad as some people made it out to be. Anyways I think the reasoning for bringing her back has to do with the tackling more meatier source material.

It was OK, but I thought she was just horrible in the second Thor movie. It surprised me because I generally like her

Apparently that movie was plagued with a lot of problems hence why maybe she zoned out a bit.

Bruce and Betty romance in first Hulk movie was underrated.

It was the last romance of this type we have seen in MCU movies. Probably the first. The music helps also.
