HULK did it! The Marvel RELAUNCH thread

How come before Spiderman 3, the rami/tobey/sony marriage was a wet dream for fanboys, and after only one lame movie everyone has turned there back on the modern day classics that are SM1 and SM2?

People are fickle. They'll love you one moment then they'll turn on you the next day. I thought Spider-Man 3 wrapped up the trilogy very well. But the action scenes weren't anything new after what Spider-Man 2 accomplished. One little lesson for directors: nighttime fights are hard to watch, and not as fun as daytime fights. Put more lighting so we can enjoy it.

I found with Spidey 3 there's was too much talk and not enough action. That mix CAN work if you keep it interesting...but they didn't keep it interesting in Spidey 3. It felt like around an hour of Emo Parker and a few mins of Spidey.

Where as in Iron Man I actually enjoyed all the talking...it was witty and interesting...not whiney.

Very few superhero films have truly great dialogue. Iron Man, Hellboy, and Blade 2, & Burton's two Batman films have the most variety. The different characters had their own distinct lines. I think Spider-Man 1-3 mostly had that, but many scenes were hammed up.

Spidey 3 was simply unevenly paced as it had too many characters and subplots and not enough balance or cohesion to work. Add in tonally challenged scenes (the dancing down the street) and the fanboy's pet favorite character not being the main character of the movie, even though it is impossible to do Venom's story justice in a 2 hour movie...you have a mixed bag movie that even if it is half decent (which it is IMO), the fans will revolt.

There are changes made that I may not agree with but the movies are a director's vision and I can respect Raimi's interpretation of Spidey just being one man's vision; something most Marvel movies (DD, GR, FF, X3, Blade, etc.) lacked. In that regard I can enjoy it and think the first two are quite good. I also think the casting in the SM movies were exceptional save for Dunst as MJ. If you don't think Maguire is a good actor go watch Ride with the Devil, Cider House Rules, Pleasentville, Seabiscuit and Wonder Boys, then get back to that argument.

As for series in need of a reboot. I have to say I liked Singer's X-Men movies well enough but X3 ****ed up so many things I'd be open to a reboot, but that will likely never happen because Fox will run that franchise dry with spin-offs first. Too bad too, because this is the one Marvel franchise that I could see keep going for decades if handeled right, which it was in the first two movies. Oh well.

FF is in need of a desperate reboot, but I think it should be done like TIH with no origin. It should just begin a la Tim Burton's Batman and be its own unique tale that assumes you know the origin but has its own continuity where the characters are interesting, Doom's a badass, etc. DD I really like and would love to see a good trilogy made out of (something that combines death of Elektra, Born Again and Death Rites for example). But since the best DD tale was already told (if half-assedly so) in DD, it would just feel redundant. So I'm not sure.

Don't forget Tobey's intro monologue for Ice Storm.

Since I'm not a Venom fan I don't give a rat's ass about how he was treated. I still make jokes that the symbiote really came from the Beyonder's broken toilet, not some prison.

But we got a great juxtaposition of a character who was like Peter Parker, but only superficially. The moment he prays to God in the chapel - and then asks him to kill Peter - that was the defining moment of Brock's villainy. We didn't need to hear him say how he sacked Rome, spread crime in a big city, BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! And Aunt May always has great words of wisdom. She never talked to Peter like he was still a child. Falling and getting back up again? Tell it to the pre-school kids, Alfred!

Here's some great stuff from Iron Man that just blows away the 'daddy & becoming more than a man talk' in Batman Begins:

Tony Stark: I never got to say goodbye to my father. There's questions I would've asked him. I would've asked him how he felt about what his company did, if he was conflicted, if he ever had doubts. Or maybe he was every inch of the man we remember from the newsreels. I saw young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw that I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero-accountability.

Press Reporter #1: Mr. Stark, what happened over there?

Tony Stark: I had my eyes opened. I came to realize that I had more to offer this world than just making things that blow up. And that is why, effective immediately, I am shutting down the weapons manufacturing division of Stark Industries.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Tony, you know that I would help you with anything, but I cannot help you if you're going to start all this again.
Tony Stark: There is nothing except this. There's no art opening, no charity, nothing to sign. There's the next mission, and nothing else.
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: Is that so? Well, then I quit.
Tony Stark: You stood by my side all these years while I reaped the benefits of destruction. Now that I'm trying to protect the people I've put in harm's way, you're going to walk out?
Virginia 'Pepper' Potts: You're going to kill yourself, Tony. I'm not going to be a part of it.
Tony Stark: I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right.

i would go for a DD fix, but forget fantastic four. getting a mediocre movies is more than they deserve.
for DD i would love to see a gritty film noir inspired, (but not as extreem as sin city) crime drama.

They need to do a relaunch of X-Men (not a restart but a relaunch like they did with Hulk)
They couls call it "Uncanny X-Men" and get fresh actors, maybe a Jean Grey who isn't in her 40's. The only additions I'd keep are Halle Berry as Storm and Patrick Stewart as Xavier

did you guys see this?

Newsarama have just posted news that Cap has been removed from the final cut of the
film.

http://www.newsarama.com/film/080612-CapNotHulk.html

Although he did confirm apparently -

“Having that said, when Bruce arrives at his destination he meets up with Captain America!,” Leterrier told SOS Hollywood. “At some point this week, we will make it available on the internet – but I cannot tell you where or when – and the material will definitely be on the DVD.”

Got to keep an eye out for this on the net!!!

He meant Blonsky Vartha. Blonsky was injected with the super soldier serum so he moved and was as agile and strong as the Captain. Thats why he said "Captain America" but its not really him, just the serum. Watch the movie and you will see. No1 has been confirmed as casted for Captain America, so if he did show up in some extra material that would be really weird.

Fantastic 4 :...Who better to play Doom than Gerard Butler...
For the F4 I would go with Hugh Laurie (Reed Richards), Rachel McAdams (Sue Richards) Ron Pearlman (Thing) and Ryan Gosling (Torch)

Not bad cast choices there, although I think Thing should be CGI.

Now that Marvel is getting there **** together by relaunching The Hulk and actually creating a film universe by tyeing their films together with cameos, I think it's only fitting they relaunch the other god awful movies under there belt, and reintroduce them into this wonderful new Marvel film universe

Two films that NEED to be relaunched: Fantastic 4 and Daredevil.

My suggestion to Marvel:

Fantastic 4 : (Insert sequel title here)
Recast everyone. Especially Doom. I want to see Doom balls to the wall like the bad ass he is, displaying his near omnipotent power and superior intellect, The whole while with the nation of Latveria behind his back a few hundred thousand Doombots at his disposal.
Who better to play Doom than Gerard Butler? He has it all, the build, the voice and the acting chops.
For the F4 I would go with Hugh Laurie (Reed Richards), Rachel McAdams (Sue Richards) Ron Pearlman (Thing) and Ryan Gosling (Torch)

Frank Millers Daredevil

Written and directed by Frank Miller and Kevin Smith...
-Nuff said.
Fan of The Notebook?

I don't agree with some of these suggestions. The Fantastic four movie was good. Not amazing but good. i felt everything was done really well except for everything about doom and the look of galactus. But it was a solid film. If you want to recast for a sequel okay.

Daredevil sucked balls but there's no reason to redo it, the movie actually left on a very good set up for a sequel, just move forward with a different everything.

the Punisher was great i just wished it had a bigger budget (it only had a budget of 15 million dollar). So with a sequel you just needed a bigger bidget and more of a shoot out film, so I'm kinda pissed their not doing it like that. Thomas Jane was perfect.

Ghost Rider I never saw, but I'm guessing you can continue a story. and catwoman should not be made at all. and i hated xmen 3

MY POINT is this, there's no need to redo these movies, some of these are actually either solid films (their no Iron man but still) and can easily be continued to make an awesome film.

I'm begging people don't cry for a remake everytime there's a minor problem with the movie, soon will have 50 movies all about the same damn thing and hollywood will cannibalise itself until there is nothing left.

revamp>remake

I saw The Incredible Hulk last night during hte Midnight Screening and I have to say this reboot lives up to all its expectations. Definitely check it out!

Wasn't sure, if they actually meant Cap or what, I won't be able to see hulk until monday anyway, money's tight this week and still need to get gas for work.

Halle Berry is in her 40s. Moreover, she's the weakest link of the franchise.
