Marvel August Solicits

- DARK REIGN: YOUNG AVENGERS #4 looks interesting, especially that cover; is Wiccan actually bisexual? Does Enchantress mean to seduce him, and does Marvel actually plan to try a "raping/forcing seduction on a man" storyline (that DC has done a few times)? Or am I just making too much of a cover? At any rate, looks interesting. It seems as if Cornell is trying to show the progression of his "Masters" team as wanna-be vigilantes who perhaps become something worse due to the situation they are in. Looks fine, but hopefully the actual Young Avengers themselves get fleshed. Many of them are still barely above cipher level, and shouldn't be reduced to the sort of guest status in their own mini's as, say, Spider-Man or Wolverine sometimes can.
I really don't like the way they are starting this off. They're putting characters that aren't fleshed out that much up against new characters that by the end of this probably won't be any more fleshed out than the Young Avengers. it's silliness.

That is my fear. Like I said, a lot of the Young Avengers, despite being on the scene since about 2004, are still at "cipher" or near cipher level, where they need a bit more time to develop and more backstory. An origin and some victories isn't enough. Speed is probably the barest of the lot. Patriot and Hawkeye probably are the most developed, if only because of an extra Brubaker one shot or two. The Young Avengers only get one mini a year and I agree that making them play second fiddle to new characters at this stage isn't the wisest idea Cornell ever had. Still, it should still be decent. If it leads to Cornell being tapped to write a YA ongoing, much as Hickman on FF after a mini, then it could even out. That's a bit "if", though.

Stature and Vision Jr. are safe on MIGHTY AVENGERS with Dan Slott, and I am curious if the rest of them will see more fleshing in guest stints there than in their own mini.

Wheres Captain Britain & MI:13, Has it been cancelled!!!!!!!:cmad: :cmad:

These are previews.

Though you'd never know it with Marvel's preview strategy, some things do indeed wait until Tuesday.

I'm waiting to see on MI13, as well Captain America and Reborn, which I believe are my only regular pulls not present yet.

These sound awesome! I'm a bit confused, where has The Incredible Hulk series been these past couple of months? Also, I'm loving the "Hulk" series right now. Great stuff.

CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI-13 wasn't solicited yet. Issue #15 ends the Dracula arc and there is also a Meggan themed one-shot drawn by Alphona, both solicited for July. As good as the book is, sales have been dire; lower than GHOST RIDER and IMMORTAL IRON FIST, two "hiatus" books, and even lower than MOON KNIGHT, which may be quietly canceled as we speak. The gap between CB&MI13 and a Ghost Rider SPIN OFF was only about 2k. A relaunch at best seems inevitable.

Marvel likes Cornell, but I am curious if they are building him to write a relaunch of YOUNG AVENGERS. He wrote a Vision themed issue in YOUNG AVENGERS PRESENTS, and lo and behold, Vision & Stature are now bigs at Mighty Avengers. Now he is writing the semi-annual YA mini. If sales are decent for it, I could see them plopping him into the ongoing seat, like Hickman at FF. Considering Marvel has waited for years for Heinberg to return to YA with no avail, it may be make or break to do anything big with the characters this year.

So far from issue 1 of this mini its playing out just like every marvel crossover team up*. and its really bugging me. We know this is about Young Avengers so why do they show up in the last page of the issue to start the story. they should have released a secret files #0 issue with 4-5 short stories about the New Young Avengers and profiles of each character. then for issue #1 should have got straight to both teams interacting. I think thats how to flesh something out well personally.

*examples
Deadpool's crossover with Tbolts the Tbolts don't show up till the last page of the first issue
Elektra mini's cover for issue #2 is Elektra standing in front of a target with arrows around it(imply Hawkeye aka Bullseye) Bullseye shows up in the last panel of that issue. I just wish they'd get to things. instead of giving it away on the cover or announcing a crossover followed by a waiting issue I find it annoying.

the way the X-men/Dark Avengers crossover is the way to do things. they're giving us the cause in a one-shot and then getting right to it. you don't have to flesh out Elektra and Bullseye fighting at all thats a no brainer and DP vs Tbolts is pretty simple too I hate when they go out of their way with bad pacing. when you know its a crossover or see a character/implication of a character on the cover it kind of hurts the story. most times we read it with a voice in the back of our head's saying "ok when does Bullseye show up?" or whoever show up and I always feel a little robbed when they show up on the last page.

DC solicits

I really gotta say I appreciate DC for going over the line but not all the way, too bad they didn't stretch all the way and resurrect the Waynes.

BLACKEST NIGHT: BATMAN #1
Deadman can't shut out the cries of the dead rising as he comes to the aid of the new Batman. It’s just in time, too, as the duo face a circus of zombies including the Black Lantern Flying Graysons!

BLACKEST NIGHT: SUPERMAN #1
Black Lantern Superman has unearthed Pa Kent's grave! But that's only the beginning of the horrifying things he's about to unleash on an unsuspecting Smallville.

BLACKEST NIGHT: TITANS #1
Black Lantern Titans are descending together onto Titans Island! Will the Titans be prepared to fight off their deceased allies? And how can Beast Boy not lose his heart to Black Lantern Terra?

I think Blackest Night is going over the edge and doing things that may make people freak out and I appreciate it. If Marvel ever had a story where Uncle Ben rose from the grave as a zombie I think thousands of people will be offended by it, just as thousands of fans will be with John Kent, the Graysons, Terra and who ever else becomes a zombie. I like this entire idea and they're doing more than I expected I just hope the stories live up to it. I mean this seems like something that Marvel might do in the Ultimate Universe but never in their regular continuity. It's looking great and I can say I just hope it lives up to it and I just hope more fans will be accepting this instead of freaking out about the disrespect of fictional dead characters.

I hope Superman stops the Black Lanterns in time to prevent the resurrection of Pa Kent, and I find it cool to see Black Lantern Terra. Black Lantern Flying Graysons though is pretty stupid :o

Totally agree its stupidness, but that is probably what they're doing I don't see Hulk making it past when Jeff Loeb's Marvel contract running out.
I was told by someone he had a 2 year contract so he'd be writing Hulk for at least 24ish issues, but with push backs and everything I can't see it going that much further.

But Loeb's books sell like hotcakes. They're not just going to drop him.

It's not like any of those characters are going to be permanently brought back. Some will I'm sure, like Martian Manhunter, but people like Pa Kent and the Graysons will most likely just go back to being dead after the event passes

Heh, Obama's dog will be appearing in Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers.

I know it's temporary. I was just saying it's something people will freak out about even though its gonna be 2 or 3 issues long. I see it as fiction, but some people are going to take it personal. Like I'd love to see zombie Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, George Stacy and anyone else in the Marvel U show up if the was a story about raising the dead all through out the universe. and right now someone is read my previous sentence thinking "thats stupid you're an idiot" but if it reads right it works. raising the dead all over, but excluding characters from the story cause they're death is sacred in the eyes of fans is BS cause all death is sacred. I appreciate it so much that DC isn't holding back too much. I want to see Superman come face to face with zombie Johnathan Kent. I'd like to see what happens. thats called pushing a limit and if that did happen what would he do honestly can anyone answer that?

I really don't think there would be that big of a problem with a story in Spider-Man of a zombie Uncle Ben or Gwen Stacy for an arc or event or something. It would be if they did it to try to bring them back as permanent cast members that I think the problems would start for certain people.

To be fair, Peter David in his FNSM title had a Ben Parker from an alternate timeline/reality show up for a little while and get involved in a story. That was only a few years ago.

Yeah, I vaguely remember something about it. Didn't it end up being The Chameleon from that dimension or something?

I dropped FNSM in that arc. You know you're scraping the bottom of the storytelling barrel when you have to tease the return of the one character in the Spider-Man mythos who should never, ever return.

Looking at the Avengers solicits, there's an awful lot of Dark Reign mini-series. Zodiac? Lethal Legion? Who would ever want these?

Poor Mockingbird. Everyone else on that New Avengers cover gets someone they could reasonably take down, but Mockingbird, who has no powers, gets f***ing Ares. I wonder if Bendis brought her back just to kill her off again. ;)

The solicitation for the newly vilified Initiative sounds pretty good. I was on the fence about continuing with the series when they switch from heroes to villains, but I guess Gage either thinks like I do or can read my mind, 'cause a Blastaar appearance is a pretty solid bet to keep me reading. I was just wondering at the end of War of Kings: Ascension #2 why Osborn hadn't done anything about 42.

Damn, Mighty Avengers sounds awesome. My only concern is whether three separate stories might be a bit much for one issue. I'm sure Slott can pull it off, though. Quicksilver and US Agent together should prove to be a fun odd couple if Slott keeps making both of them as obnoxious as he has so far.

S***, I was planning on dropping Secret Warriors too, but the last issue was good and set up an interesting new direction and the solicitation for #7 sounds great, since Ares finally gets involved. I guess I'll stick with it and see where they go with this new, mercenary Howling Commandos army (or are they supposed to be the Secret Warriors? I still don't know who that name specifically applies to).

Yeah, Dark Reign is getting ****ed out. Blackest Night is right behind it though.

I am and I'm usually a person that skips all tie ins. The way Casey has described it it actually sounds fun and worthwhile unlike most of the tie ins.

Putting it right behind Dark Reign; both series have their names plastered all over other books

But Blackest Night so far hasn't and from what has been said, won't be anywhere near as ****ed out as Dark Reign.

I'm no longer buying all the Dark Reign tie-ins because there are way too many of them and way too many that go for $3.99. I plan on getting all of the Blackest Night tie-ins because right now, there's a pretty reasonable number of them and asides from Tales of the Corps and the Blackest Night mini proper, they're all $2.99.
