Marvel over-load of negativity

Dude, when was Marvel ever anything but bad guys winning, good guys not knowing what to do, nobody trusting anybody, citizens hating heroes, and amoral anti-heroes being celebrated as paragons? You don't want that stuff, go read something else. Like Invincible. Or anything Grant Morrison has ever written (even New X-Men.) Or DC. But don't expect anything but amoralism and evil and anti-heroism from Marvel. It's what they do. It was their central gimmick (albeit a little more disguised and dressed up) when they introduced Spider-Man, and it's never really changed. It's what they do.

Uh no. Marvel is the creator of the modern superhero, not the anti-hero. Spidey, Iron Man, etc are heroes because they are doing good. It's the victories that aren't clear cut.

Really? Tony Stark the domineering, amoral alcoholic? Peter Parker, the perpetually depressed, simpering ****weed who only becomes a hero because of what someone else thought he should do, and because of a situation that baldfaced self-interestedness created for him? Hank Pym, wife beater extraordinaire? Yeah, you're right, Marvel is the creator of the modern superhero. That's the problem.

Pym's no more a wife beater than Batman is a woman slapper.

Or a gay pedophile. We all know Bruce was banging Robin early on. How you think came up with that nickname "the Boy Wonder" and green draws for his costume. :o

Peter hit mary jane harder than Pym hit Janet during the whole clone saga thing. Pym's "wife beating" got blown waaaaaaay out of proportion.

Isn't that what most wife beaters say?

Here's how it went down. Pym was insane at the time. He thought he was this *****e bag named Yellow Jacket and believed that he had actually killed Hank Pym. Jan, being a stupid dittzy b***h at the time, married him when he asked because, Hank was never gonna get around to it, mainly due to what happened to his first wife. Then some stuff went down, this crazy persona couldn't handle it, and he smacked her.

And ever since then that's all he's been known for. At least by people too lazy to find out more. The wife beater thing is stupid. No different than whenever Superman gets mind controlled and smacks Wonder Woman or Batman around. You really wanna get on Pym for something, get on him for creating Ultron. Ultron's brain was based on Pym's own brain patterns. So technically, Ultron is Pym, minus the morality, and that's saying something. That things killed Billions. BILLIONS.

It wasnt even a "beating" it was a measly slap. Like i said Peter's hit mary jane harder than that before. Heck, i've been hit harder than that by my parents...lol

If only i had known about Child Services when i was younger....lol

Thanks, I'm glad someone else was around to clear that up this time. I've gotten tired of repeating myself. :o

Also, for kguillou:

You know when you hit someone so hard to produce a "spwat!" you've gone too far. :o

Well said Anubis.

Slapping Jan is nothing next to what Tony does these days...or most of Marvels other "heroes"

Well, it's not nothing, and likening it to mind control as justification is a bit much. Hank did hit Jan once, mental breakdown or not, and it's there in his past. I don't want it apologized away; I just don't like how it's been front and center in all things Hank Pym for the past 5 years or so. It's one thing that happened during a particularly horrible period in his life. He's moved on and made himself a better man because of it--time for these comic writers to do the bloody same.

I have complained about this for a minute. I've cut down on my spending to Marvel big time for this reason. Its to dark and negative right now, the disrespect to the fans, and the freakin dollar increase just turned me off. There are some books that I will buy, anything by Slotts. Abnett, Herc, Fantastic Four, and Moon Knight. But every character seems to be a grey area and its a huge turn off. I've started to read some DC but that f-ing Final Crisis is just to many books to buy and confusing as hell to new DC readers so I'm just getting into the back issues now.

Have you seen FF lately? Even that book is dark......It looks like the Ultimates.

Because Millar and Hitch are working on it. I've heard their run isn't so bad, though.

Don't blame Hitch. He was on The Authority with Warren Ellis, and that was not dark at all. Violent, but not dark.

The FF4 run isnt bad, in fact its pretty good. My only quarrel is that Millar has some really really far out concepts that are kinda hard to believe, but then again its comics, so it shouldnt really matter anyway. How would you even begin to physically build another planet earth?! lol

I was just going off of the "it looks like The Ultimates" part. Hitch drawing both is a pretty obvious reason for that.

I do like that they stole my idea of making Val smart. I wont even sue them for it.

Tony's cool now. The guy had the world on his shoulders. If everybody just did what he said, there wouldn't even have been that big of a mess to begin with. :o

Right now he's gotta pay his penance. He's the most wanted man in the world, everybody thinks he's a coward and hates his guts. (Forget about the fact that he's saved the world on his own and with the Avengers countless times.) And now, he's gone and [blackout]Erased his own mind in order to keep Osbourne from learning all the stuff he knows. Guy might not even have the where-with-all to use the toilet anymore.[/blackout]

Tony ain't cool. He may be getting what's coming to him but that don't make him cool.

If everybody followed King T'Challa's advice before they formed their Illuminati they wouldn't be in this mess.

No, they'd be dead, like in that mini series Ruins.

*Don't ask him why his moral system is so bleak and gray. All he'll tell you is vague hints about "if you knew what his work is," like he's ****in' Wolverine or something.

Look, I was gonna wait until you got older to tell you this, but I suppose you think you're a Man, so I'll tell you now.

Sometimes, people have to do things that they don't like just to make ends meet. They might feel guilty about it later, it might be illegal or whatever, but hey...people have to survive.

And even then, there are some laws out there that are completely trivial or based on closed-minded perceptions of Right and Wrong.

One thing I do and I've been doing it since high school is working with Environmental Rights and Civil Rights groups. That's been going on for over 8 years now. I'm also an English Major, who minors in Religious Studies and Anthropology. Plus I write Horror.

So, I've gained quite a bit of insight into how morals and ethics vary from culture to culture. Which is why I have such a broad view of what moral and ethical behavior actually is.

There you go.
