Marvel Studios will Go Head to Head with Batman vs. Superman

Studios need to adapt. I've never understood their philosophy regarding box office movies only in summer months or around Christmas. Hopefully with Caps inevitable success in April things will change.

So you're saying every comic book movie should have an under-developed villain, with a great opportunity to be a great rivalry that sorely misses the mark? I apologize but I like my villains to have some sense of reason behind their actions or motive, zombified or not Bucky was given little to no development and "saved" for the sequel.

I say no thanks to that there was no reason that they couldn't have cut out 5 minutes of mindless action for a little more story to really make that climax worth what they set out to do with it.

It's hard to make a brainwashed zombie into an interesting character. The Russos got it right with him; he was like a legend, a threat, appearing sporadically and bringing fear with him whenever he did. He was a physical representation of Steve's past coming back to haunt him.

He wasn't the villain of the movie. Pierce and HYDRA were. Winter Soldier was a catalyst and a source of character development for Steve, just as he was in the original comic. Now that he isn't a brainwashed zombie, he can be explored more as a character in the third film.

Like in the comics.

Because that's when most kids are out of school and when they are in the mind set to see those kinds of movies.

Well-said. People who think Winter Soldier is just a mindless zombie obviously did not watch the movie or didn't pay attention during it.

Hyde gets it.

If you say so, If I wanted to go read the comic, I would go buy it rather than pay to see the film in the theater, I liked the movie a lot believe me but comic accuracy or not I did NOT like the way they handled the character's story/arc, I loved the performance and the badass almost "terminator-esque" threat that he was. From the start I wanted a lot more from the Cap/Bucky relationship when the climax happened the emotion fell flat due to hardly to little devleopment, two tiny flashback scenes don't quite cut it for me.

I'm not the minority when it comes to his development, aside from this website and comic book movie sites in general many other film fans (not strictly CBM fans) are agreeing with that sentiment. I still give it a high rating but I remain in the same opinion how aside from Loki Marvel has handled their villains quite miserably.

I watched it and paid attention to every single little detail, 5 minutes of tiny development did not take away from the fact that Bucky was brainwashed, 5 minutes less action and 5 minutes more character work would've helped the film tremendously.

Essentially, that's it.

Also, it depends on the quarter, and how a film will play in the international market depending on the date.

Just out of curiosity what didn't you like in those first 30 mins? I know the movie is divisive but from what I can tell those first 30 mins are considered the best parts of the film. I only ask because a lot of people were clamoring for a whole movie on Krypton after that.

Nothing really. I didn't even love the beginning (the idea that scientist Jor-el could even remotely stand up in a fight against the military leader Zod is absurd...it was repeatedly discussed that they were genetically predestined for certain types of work).

It just took about a half hour for my excitement to dim.

People clamouring for a Krypton movie is exactly the problem with the first 30 mins, it's feels like a short film in and of itself, but it's not necessarily a great way to begin the story for Superman. I could tell within 5 mins there was already going to be trouble with the film. Everything just felt off.

I liked the production design of Krypton and the costumes.

But yea, something did feel off about it. The whole codex thing is murky, like it was a concept the film makers themselves didn't fully grasp.

And yea, Jo-El being this bad ass fighter even more so than Zod, even though one was genetically created to be a scientist and the other a warrior was bizarre.

That's the same THR article from a few weeks ago. But to me, Disney and Marvel confirming the date for Cap 3 is suggesting "Hey WB, take a page out of our book and release your film in April like we did with Cap 2!"

The head to head is not going to stand. I think opening against each other the same weekend will be a detriment to the genre. WB will move their film.

They can have April all to themselves.

Isn't Fast 7 opening in April now? I think that might be their biggest concern with moving it up. That franchise is as big as any Marvel franchise right now, and with it being Paul Walker's last film, it'll do huge numbers.

They could move it back to July 22nd 2016 as no studios have any films for that date.....as of now.

Either way, the two films will not open against each other.

I think late July is the smarter move for DC. TDK showed that you can open towards the end of Summer and still have huge numbers. Is there any other Marvel movie scheduled for 2016 yet?

Early July, I think. It might be Dr. Strange.

It's getting tougher and tougher to launch a new franchise because I'm sure there will be a Spider-man and X-men movie in there as well. The audience is going to get burned out. When I saw Cap 2, there was a preview for Spider-man, X-men, and Guardians of the Galaxy. As a comic-book fan, it's great. But I can see people getting burned out real fast.

People will become pickier about which superhero movie they see at the theater but the genre will survive.

People love superhero movies and they are diverse enough to keep people interested.

with the success of the past weekend and excellent word of mouth plus the awesome set up of winter soldier Marvel has no reason to fear that date
I think WB moves

Marvel claimed May 6, 2016 first; I don't see why they would be willing to move, especially after TWS's success.
