It seems that a discussion about these teasers have been spread out between 3 or 4 different threads, so here's one dedicated to them all. I'm starting to think that this is a 616 in canon thing.

Here's the 4 teasers so far and there's probably one more coming tomorrow....

So is this gonna be another House of M deal? I saw somebody mentioned Phobos in another thread, is he the next Scarlet Witch? There's no way Marvel would be so stupid as to bring her back and have her pull the same stunt twice. Besides, The Children's Crusade isn't gonna be over until the summer.

Ironically, Marvel could make many comic retailers no longer fear tomorrow as much by no longer publishing $3.99 comics. :o

I'm tired of all these events. When do the heroes get a freaking break ?

It's funny because Marvel said "no more events" for a while, yet there's been a flurry of mini events like Second Coming, Shadowland and World War Hulks. Now this event. So far the only thing that's got me excited is Camuncoli's Hulk teaser. Maybe he will end up drawing a bigger title for Marvel.

Well, someone was able to photoshop the boarders of the teasers so that they are shaped like this:

Notice that the symbol appears to be dragon like? Well, there's a certain super-villain whose origins are tied to dragons. The Mandarin. In fact, Marvel.com has this article talking about his return in Invincible Iron Man #500. Note this particular paragraph:

While INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500 may explore the conflict between Tony Stark and his arch nemesis extending decades into a tomorrow filled with fear, Arbona promises this sneak peek will prove ominous for the present of the Armored Avenger as well:

“[It is] a terrifying glimpse of the future that is already coming. It came because Mandarin acted and Tony Stark failed to stop him; in the stories unfolding in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN in the present day, Mandarin is already moving against Tony. Iron Man has to stop this future from happening, but he’s already at a disadvantage. Can Tony still save the world from The Mandarin?”

If you click on the word "fear" it takes you THIS: http://marvel.com/videos/watch/1661/fear

Also, anyone remember this "timeline" from Avenger #5? http://www.richlovatt.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/1284757544.jpg One of the words on there is "Fear without man" and notice what is closely linked to that--a circled "What is in the Rings?" Who do we know in the Marvel Universe who has rings? The Mandrian again.

So my guess? I think that these scenes (symoblic or otherwise) of what will eventually happen if things in the present day (in terms of the Marvel U) are not resolved. And that there will be events which transpire, some more orchestrated than others, that will lead the world to the brink of an Armageddon in which the Mandarin takes the opportunity to take over the world. Perhaps it also ties into those Tripods and the Ultron War as seen in Captain America: Reborn and Avengers 1-6

The Cyclops with Magneto's costume teaser piqued my interest.

Apparently, Marvel is employing a strategy like DC used to. When it says something is being scaled back, we get more of it.

So, Mandarin's return in IIM #500 may be a big deal? Too bad. I won't be on IIM by then. Stark Resilient ends with the next issue, and I am not paying $5-$6 for a series I am pretty much out of love with.

I also do not trust Fraction with an event.

I was going to say, "I fear....Fraction still being on Thor in 2 years."

Fraction does have very long stories...

I hate to sound like such a nerd but Fraction REALLY pissed me off with his blatant disregard of continuity with the Mandarin in that Iron Man Annual special. He completely ignored what the Knaufs did with the Mandarin during their SPECTACULAR run on Ironman, i know its hyperbole but i dont think there will ever be a better Mandarin arc than that. Regardless, if Fraction was going to use the Mandarin, it would have been nice to see him pay homage to that arc and continue from it rather than act like it never happened.

That Mandarin special is what finally made me give up on Fraction's Iron Man altogether. I tried on several occasions to get into it, but his interests with the character seem to be diametrically opposed to my own. I'm worried to see the same trend starting to emerge in his treatment of Thor. I'm even more worried about that Avengers timeline because shortly after the "What is where Asgard should be?" that Fraction's Thor is exploring now, there's a circle with "Who is worthy?" in it. Please, dear lord, don't let Fraction start handing Mjolnir over to other characters like some kind of party favor. :csad:

I dont get Fraction sometimes, i mean as a writer i get it that you have your own ideas and stuff that you wanna explore but you have to respect what came before you. I'm nervous about how he's handling Magneto over in Uncanny X-men, i'm just waiting for him to become a cackling super villain again.

Fraction used to be so good, his Thor one shots a few years ago were great and Stark Dissassembled, while a little long, was good stuff.

Eh, I saw cause for concern with Fraction's Thor as far back as Secret Invasion: Thor, which treated Beta Ray Bill and Stormbreaker like utter s*** and featured as its crux a really, really contrived and stupid reason for Thor to be taken out of the main action. I was hoping he'd be better on the main series, but so far he's actually managed to be worse.

The art isnt helping either. Ferry's real good but his style doesnt fit Thor i think, its a little too...out there. Who were the two artists that were drawing it during Gillen's run again? Both those guys were PHENOMENAL, they should be drawing Thor permanently imo.

Psst, Casanova and The Five Fists of Science forgive Fraction of all that crap. It's so weird hearing all this kind of criticism, like super decompression, when those are nothing like that.

Well, if this ends up being true, it is just another 'Oh no, alternate future we must prevent!' thing

I agree, Fraction's got plenty of other good work. The Five Fists of Science was a lot of fun, as was The Immortal Iron Fist and various other things he's done. But for whatever reason, he and I just cannot seem to get on the same page for Invincible Iron Man or Thor.

Then again, Bendis was a pretty revered indie creator before spooging his wonky ideas all over the Avengers franchise for the past few years, so it's not like this is anything new.

Yeah, that's true for sure, but the thing about Bendis is he does like one thing really well...and that thing isn't something like The Avengers. I would think, based on those two I mentioned, something like Iron Man would be right up Fraction's alley.

Apparently, you'd think wrong, sir. At least according to my gauge of what makes great Iron Man stories (i.e. not pissing all over better characterizations of villains just so you can make them crass, low-class thugs for no apparent reason).

Well, that sucks, though I don't care anything about Iron Man. I know you aren't alone, seems like his run has been decisively mixed almost from the beginning
