I've been re-reading Marvels recently, and I realized: it would be a kickass mini-series for television.

It seems so natural, especially since period pieces seem to be making a comeback these days (I call it the Mad Men effect). In addition, the conceit of "Everyday life in a not-so-everyday universe" never seems to have really been done on American TV, at least not as the main plot.

And here's the thing: It actually wouldn't be THAT expensive for Marvel/Disney to do. For one, a lot of the heroes that show up don't even have lines in the Marvels comic, so a lot of them could easily be played by glorified stuntmen. For another, there actually wouldn't be that many big special effects-required scenes that go any further than most modern-day sci-fi fantasy TV shows do (okay, there are a few: Galactus, Namor's tidal wave attack on NYC, maybe the Sentinels).

It'll never happen, of course, but what do you think? If there was Marvels mini-series, would you watch? And who would you cast as some of the major characters like Phil, his wife Doris and the Marvel Universe characters like the original Torch, Gwen Stacy, Namor and JJ Jameson?

I would like to see a X-Men TV series.

Its like 10 movies in 1 just series w/ 22 episodes.

I also tought that Marvels could be great for a movie or Tv show, but one thing that i thing could work is a tv series set during the golden age narrated by the protagonist of Marvels with the effect of Angel, Human-Torch and Namor on comon citizens, while also shouing their lives, i think it could work and look great, and with the smart writers it could work with the TV budget and still look realistic

The one thing I realized that would be a big hurdle: Age. Thing about it, there's the 40s setting, then the 60s setting, then the 70s setting. While obviously the 60s/70s wouldn't require a lot of work, the 40s to 60s/70s would be more of a jump. Either they'd have to have two sets of actors, put makeup on the actors (like what was done with Carla Gugino in the Watchmen movie) or use some Benjamin Button tech..

It can never happen because the rights are scattered everywhere.

I said it before and i will say it again, use elements from Marvels golden age setting and marvel project to make a tv show set in the golden age about the original heroes and the guy from marvels

Hollywood doesn't know how to do costumed superheroes on TV for some reason.

That show was primarily a comedy/spoof and I'm mainly referring to actual comic adaptations.

That's because most tv shows don't have the budget of movies. Hell, either of Spider-man's costumes probably cost more to make than an episode of Smallville.

I always thought MARVELS could be the basis of a show titled "the bugle" or "frontline" and basically it'd be an average workplace drama, but it'd take place at a news paper, set in the MCU, and the premise of the show would be basically on what it's like to see this fantastical world through the eyes of a normal human, in such a fantastical world.

I don't think "MARVELS" would work on it's own, because it's only through the eyes of one character, and mostly just a walk down memory lane for the marvel fan.

I think having the setting be in the Bugle/frontline would actually make it far more interesting, especially since there's so many great characters that have worked there, and have had ties to it.

^ No, Marvels should be like the comics is about - the start of the recorded history of public superheroes in the Marvel Universe around the 1930's or earlier. Golden age characters like the Angel, original Human Torch, Ferret, Whizzer, Two Gun kid, Namor, etc. Perhaps they could add up Tony Stark's grandfather, this era Ghost Rider, and so on. The series writer could add creatively new characters that can end up in the comics or at least remembered, because this is set in the early decades of last century.
