I think most have said that one thing both movies, FF and FF 2 have in common is advertising and a great abundance of it....

What are your thoughts on the mass TV Spots, Exclusives, etc......????

As my review stated I enjoyed this movie ALOT......but IMO it would have been really nice to have come into the theatre with alittle less visuals.....there were some nice surprises, but I would have liked more....

Just a few things I did notice....

* The trailers did not give a whole lot, just nice teasers which was good in my opinion....
* The TV spots seemed to be 2 or 3 scenes edited together just for the TV spot and when seeing them in the theatre, it was nice to see some differences, and a few little surprises...
* I enjoyed Doom far more because I knew very little of his role in this movie....nice surprise...

BIG thing I noticed earlier this week.....the UK MTV did a huge exclusive on FF 2 and showed pretty much a portion of every scene.......it was a BTS show, and IMO, was not a smart move on Fox's part.....I'm glad I saw it AFTER I had already seen the movie.......I would not have been happy.....

As far as the novelization, I skimmed it this time, and that made a BIG difference......I read it 2x before the first film......skimming was a smarter choice for me....

So, those are my thoughts....what are yours....???:word:

Did it help the movie, or hurt the enjoyment of it for you?
Did there need be soooooo much advertising to get butts in the seats?
Do you think it made a difference?

To be honest Albafan my thoughts are roughly the same as yours. That MTV thing showed ridiculous amounts of the film and I am also glad that I saw it after viewing the film.
I didn't read the novelization at all, and 'm glad i didn't I think it would have spoiled it for me.
Yeah I think Doom came across much better as he was kept a secret.

I just saw the movie last night finally. I enjoyed the first, and to be honest the sequel felt like it was directed by a different director. I loved it! Much better than the first FF. About the advertising question though....they didn't go crazy like with SM3 which im happy for. I do wish they had shown just alittle less of the surfer though. I think they should have just kept showing the scene with Johnny chasing him, instead of later adding in the scene with the rockets for the last trailer. All in all, not too much but I still long for the days where they edited the trailer to still keep you interested and excited but without showing nearly any goodies or money shots.

By the way.......you have to be blind or insane to not have noticed Galactus's head/face in that scene in the end lol.(To all the naysayers). It was clear as day to me. I thought I was going to have trouble seeing it but as soon as it went to that shot it was right there.

Sometimes less is more--and I think FOX did a good job of realizing that fact with marketing this film. I feel my enjoyment of the first movie was robbed by the fact that I knew entirely too much.

Also, I was rather impressed that they were able to keep Doom under wraps for as long as they did.

Thank you, yes I am both blind and insane....

Hey, all im saying is that is was entirely noticable. I'm not sure if you were one of the ones that were outright denying it or just didn't catch it. That statement was for the people that were ragging on the ones who saw Galactus's head/face saying that they were just seeing what they wanted to see.

No, I'm not one of the one's outright denying it.....I actually speak very little of things I don't see.......lol and I'm insane remember? :cwink:

I hope you realize I was joking and not being 100% literal when I said blind or insane. :woot:

hence the...:cwink: at the end of my post.......

Ah! It appears I am now the blind one hehehe.

On the advertising front, it seemed to be about the same amount as any other big summer movie.

I don't agree - that last week before opening, you couldn't turn around without seeing an FF2 commercial. I think they did a great job marketing. I hope they do as well marketing in the international markets as the film releases.

Actually I think Fox and Marvel did a bad job advertising this movie. The first trailer was supposed to go up with Eragon, but wasn't completed in time.

The second trailer was supposed to be with Ghost Rider, but wasn't completed on time.

The Burger King marketing is nearly non-existant, aside from your kid getting a toy with his kid's meal. Nothing like the Spider-man 3 promotion. Not even close to the FF1 BK promotion.

Been to a toy store lately? there's like half a shelf of ROTSS toys. The Doom figure is wearing the costume from the first movie.

For a movie of this proportion, the marketing was awful.

There were a few good points though:

1.) The TV spots were excellent.

2.) The promo on American Idol.

3.) The sneak peak on Heroes.

marketing was fine though;

Fox DID **** upthe KEY-MOST IMPOTANT PIECE OF MARKETING for a sequel:

The predessesor*. If THAT gets good word of mouth, the sequel a hit as long as it gets some marketing. If it gets BAD word of mouth....market it all you want, it wont increase at all unless its a GREAT film.

Thats why Fantastic Four 2 isnt being as big as hoped, and its why The Dark Knight will blow away most expectations next summer.
