Mass Effect

I'm half-way through it now.

My main issue is I play with Fem-Shep and would like to see them go that way in the movie. There haven't been a whole lot of strong female leads in Sci-Fi except for Ripley.

As I've said in the video game thread, I would be SHOCKED if they used FemShep. The key demographic responds more positively to male leads in movies of this nature. Plus the overwhelming majority of gamers use male Shepard.

It's my issue too. I know they'll never do it.. bur for me it just isn't Mass Effect if Sheppard is male. I do hope the movie will be good though.

I was real happy when they decided to make the cover for ME3 reversible for those of us that used FemShep.

You never know, they COULD shoot the whole movie with the Shepard character as a person in a mocap suit then digitally insert an actor and actress for two diff releases lol

Legendary arms 'Mass Effect' with new scribe
Morgan Davis Foehl to pen sci-fi pic based on popular videogame

With "Mass Effect 3" one of the year's bestselling games, Legendary Entertainment is moving forward with the bigscreen version of Electronic Arts and BioWare's franchise, tapping scribe Morgan Davis Foehl to adapt the sci-fi series.

Mark Protosevich ("Thor," "I Am Legend") tackled the first version of the script shortly after Legendary picked up the rights to the project in 2008.

While Foehl has yet to have one of his scripts produced, the former assistant editor on the FX show "Rescue Me" and Adam Sandler comedy "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" landed on 2009's Black List for writing "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" and penned "Crosshair," an adaptation of the Top Cow comicbook that Mandeville is developing for Summit. His credits also include "Alien Sleeper Cell" for producers Bill Block and Adrian Askarieh.

Producers sparked to Foehl's take on the project given that he is a "Mass Effect" fan and has also penned action pics with a strong espionage bent, material similar to the overall plot of the "Mass Effect" games.

"Mass Effect" easily marks Foehl's most high-profile project to date. First game takes place in 2183 and revolves around a human space commander who leads a team on a mission to defeat an ancient race of mechanized aliens that invade the galaxy every 50,000 years, wiping out all forms of organic life.

First "Mass Effect" game was released in 2007 and sold over 1.6 million units in its first four months of release. Its sequel shipped 2 million units in its first week, while 3.5 million units were shipped for the launch of the third installment. Latter bowed in March and sold 890,000 copies in its first day out in North America and 1.5 million copies in its first week. "Mass Effect 3" has earned more than $200 million since then, according to EA.

Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce the "Mass Effect" pic with Avi and Ari Arad through their Arad Prods shingle. BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will serve as exec producers, as will "Mass Effect" executive producer Casey Hudson.

Based on the quality of screenwriters being used, I doubt the studio is taking the IP all that seriously. But, to be honest, I don't know if I care anymore. Mass Effect 3 and its ending in particular has left me feeling cold and indifferent regarding the series in general. (it was my favourite game series of all-time prior to that) It's all so tainted now. Does a Mass Effect film even had a large enough core fanbase anymore to justify the costs?

...

.......

get that **** out of here.

I don't feel like his comparison holds water. A Mass Effect movie would be largely rewritten and adapted specifically for the film medium instead of simply having content edited for space and recording costs (or whatever other reasons they do this).

Paul Walker as Commander Shepard? nooooooooooooooooooooo

Uh yeah, where did he get the "news" that Paul Walker is Shepard?

Sorry for bumping this, but if a movie version of this actually gets off the ground I hope they don't boringly go with the "default version" of Shepard. Even if they stick with a male version, I hope they at least spice it up by making him an infiltrator class and call him Marcus or something. "John Shepard" puts me to sleep.

Anyway, if you guys got to make a movie version of this, what version of Shepard would you create for the film?

They should film the whole movie with the main character being a person in a greenscreen suit. Then they can film all the Shepard parts with a male AND female actor and just insert them into the movie. Then everybody can have the Shepard they played as lol

Maybe a DC Comics style Crisis on Infinite Earths/Universes story with each universe having a different Shepard? Nah... ;)

I would prefer they tell a completely original story.

I would prefer an adaptation with modifications that take out the decisions you make or make them for you. I love the story of mass effect so much, and it's so easy to dumb the first game down to 3 hrs for a movie.

If you love the story of Mass Effect so much, why are you so eager to see Hollywood **** all over it?

a few days old, but a ME movie is happening so it is 'off the ground'... Legendary Pictures has my faith.

I've just started playing the third game and its easily the best mass effect I've ever played. I'll come back with a cast for a movie soon :cwink:

I just wanted to bump this in the mean time

Wait until you see the ending. The extended cut helps a little bit. But not by much

They never got a Halo movie off the ground, so we'll see.
