Mass Effect

Idris Elba for Commander Shepard. Race shouldn't be an issue with casting him since you can make him whatever you want.

^ In that case I'd much prefer Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Since people would be familiar with the default model I say stick with that

The default model was pretty racially ambiguous, so with that logic Shepard should be Vin Diesel or The Rock (I kid! I kid!)

Since most people familiar with the game most likely made their own Shepard it's absurd to limit the candidates to people who look like the random Shepard model.

They're likely to go with the 'universal' appearance, which is the default, so to not change the race and gender is not absurd.

Here's a crazy thought, how about they hire someone who is good in the role? :awesome:

You're right. according to this article, 80% of people used face customization in Mass Effect 2.

Not that many people picking female either, as 80% used male players.

I don't think the default Shepard model is really a random model. Its the model used on all the artwork and screenshots as well as other promotional media stuff for the games. I think the default Shepard is what he should look like in a possible theatrical film, of course I wouldn't mind it being otherwise but it might be better for the general audience.

No offense intended towards Idris Elba, I haven't seen Luthor or the other shows he has been in but I'm sure he is a good actor. But is he a good for a sci-fi film?

Isn't the default Shepard based on a actor/model guy? Or the voice actor?

He's based on some dutch model.

yessir, ur right

God you guys are bumming me out. I really hope they don't try to adapt the game's story.

Oh...I think it would be cool to have the film set in the same universe as Mass Effect, as in be considered a canon story set in the game's world but not be part of the main plot of the games. A epic side-story of sorts suitable for a film with maybe cameos or references to characters from the games.

I'd like to have Mass Effect to have a film that takes place during the games, but doesn't directly involve the games... if that makes sense.

Shepard is supposed to be whatever you make him. Of course the developers had a look they wanted for him in the promotional shots but they wouldn't let you create your own Shepard if they felt so strong about it.

Simply put, since we can make Shepard how we want him then the director should as well, and that doesn't include having to make him look like a stand in template model.

If you are going to go ahead with talking about Shephard being played by a black dude why not also discuss a woman playing Shephard since Shephard could also be female.

So Milla Jovovich.

Then if whoever's making the adaptation choose the customized-Shepard approach it would be good if Shepard is played by different actors with different gender every scene change.

:hehe:

Hey Terry Gilliam pulled it off.

I would understand if they went that route as well.

Milla's awesome. I would love this but would not enjoy the constant whining from the internerds about how they're turning Mass Effect into a cheesefest like Resident Evil.

They will not give Jovovich in the lead role because it will kill fan interest. The Resident Evil fanbase hates Jovovich's character in the movies, and those movies have become the butt of a lot of jokes within the gaming community. If they want this movie to be taken seriously then they have to aim a might bit higher than that.

I'd rather have someone who can actually act that a glorified model if they go the route of Female Shepard.

Annie Wersching from 24 should play female Shepard.

I don't know, but I'd imagine the first Mass Effect to be Renegade that slowly becomes a paragon. Like an alien racist who slowly learns to accept them would be a great route.

Really? I'm kinda the reverse. My Shepard was a paragon in the first game who represented the absolute best that humanity had to offer. In the second game, while working with Cerberus he slowly declined into a more renegade role as he was corrupted by the Illusive Man, though he showed some signs of redemption in the end when he destroyed the Collector base rather than hand it over to him.

Garrus would need to be cgi or makeup or both so I'd get the dude who plays him in the game. Cuz his voice is sex.

Good luck finding a studio who will cast a 200 million dollar budget movie with a bunch of video game voice actors. Its why you'll see roles like Wrex, Garrus, and Tali, recast even if they are CGI, covered in makeup, or faceless. Its why animated movies have gone through the trend of using big stars over the past ten years. Because when promoting it you can use the voice actors. "Hey, Seth Rogan is on Leno promoting Monsters vs. Aliens! I should see it!" Studio logic will ensure that real actors are cast in the voice roles.

I hate to bring you down while you're in full-on know-it-all mode, but Brandon Keener is a regular actor who's been in honest to goodness live film and television projects. Here he is in The Pacific, for example.

Try a little research next time.

Drop the attitude or leave the thread. You've already patronized Timstuff, its not going to continue to fly.

Keener had a bit part in The Pacific and a bit part in basically every live action role he's had. He's not a guy who the studio would have on the late night circuit and promoting the film when they could have a recognizable actor who will draw a crowd.
