Mass Effect

You don't need them to though, get Karl Urban. ;)

I loved to see Halo done so well that you don't need to see his face. I think both franchises are extremely difficult to bring to the big screen, both have such a epic scale to them.

Commander shepherd (I'm playing as femshep now and I prefer her to menshep) - Angela Bassett
Liara - fan bingbing
Kaiden - Josh Dallas
Edi - Tricia helfer of course
Garrus - Robert Carlyle
Wrex- mickey rourke

How likely is this to get made now that the franchise has lost its steam? They missed the franchise' peak in popularity.

Also on Halo (bit late to respond, but what the hell), MC would have to be a secondary character if they refused to let him take off his helmet. But even then, he's not exactly an engaging protagonist. He's practically a silent hero.

Lost it's steam? You talking about 'Warcraft'? ;)

How did Mass Effect lose it's steam? They're making another trilogy for the new gaming systems. Was it due to the backlash for part 3? If Part 4 lives up to the hype and promise that part 3 didn't have, then all that backlash will be forgotten. Forgotten you ask? Well it's the internet; people forget things easily through revisionist history and ADHD.

No, I get that, but I don't think it will be the same. Compare Halo 4 to Halo 3. Except that Halo 3 wasn't a disappointment. It's the capping of a trilogy.

Well, perhaps (and hopefully) I will be proven wrong. But they should have had this movie out shortly after Mass Effect 2.

Well the Halo games in-between 3 and 4 were mixed. Not bad games but not as renowned so some people can consider games a disappointment despite not being 'numbered' games.

My point is 'disappointment' can be forgotten with a new, better sequel. I written off the Fast and Furious movies till part 5, which totally reinvented the franchise. Samething with Mission Impossible with 3 and 4.

My point is..we live in a world where we'll getting an AVENGERS 2, a new Star Wars movie from DISNEY NO LESS. Anything can happen! Same thing with games. Look at Tomb Raider! (Don't look at DmC though. It didn't sell well though I like Ninja Theory.)

DISAPOINTMENT IS ALWAYS SHORT LIVED.

Agreed, I was let down majorly by the third game but I know I'll get hyped for the 4th game and probably get in day one. The franchise overall is still one of my favorites in gaming. BTW I doubt we ever see a ME movie...

The games don't need a adaption to a film they just need a film set in the universe and I'd go see it.

Or a kickass TV series. But it'd be super expensive to make.

The endings to Mass Effect 3 were terrible and made no sense.

Preach to the choir! Just do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I really need to finish this to see what all the outrage is about.

I've been on the last couple of missions for a year now but have been putting it off cause of what I've heard, didnt want the series to be ruined for me :(

The ending doesn't suck per say. The real problem is that all three endings are nearly identical. All those choices? Meaningless.

Suck is a pretty appropriate term for the endings, I think.

Actually, I kind of want to see a prequel. Maybe with some artistic liberties (give them some room, story-wise).

Or perhaps they can do some scenes that showcase the First Contact War, and humans encountering the other civilizations for the first time.

I know this is slightly off topic but it's related to game adaptations. I really think that the first true great game adaptation will be coming from Ubisoft Studios, who is handling their properties like Marvel. By having creative control.

"Mass Effect": Impossible To Adapt To Film?

By Garth Franklin Friday October 4th 2013 04:29PM
There's little doubt that the "Mass Effect" trilogy is considered one of the true pinnacles of the current generation of console video gaming.
A film adaptation of the sci-fi epic has been stuck in development for sometime at Legendary Pictures, and now the film's former writer Mark Protosevich ("Thor," "I Am Legend") has spoken with Badass Digest about why he left the project last year:
"I wrote a couple of drafts and then they brought on a new writer… When I was on it I was definitely adapting the first game. That story, it was very much the first game. And that was the approach."
"It was the first game adaptation I did and it will probably be the only one. They’re hard. I will freely admit it was hard. Because – especially with ‘Mass Effect’ - there’s just so much material. Narratively, with the game, you’re talking about nine, ten hours of narrative you’re jamming into two hours.
I hope they pull it off. I’d love to see a 'Mass Effect' movie. I think I did some good work, but even I’ll admit I didn’t pull it off."
The main narrative alone of each "Mass Effect" game takes at least 12 hours to complete, throw in any side missions and character development scenes and that length effectively doubles.
The game series is acclaimed for its rich universe which, in the length of the game, has plenty of time to be fleshed out. In the space of a two-hour movie, it will likely just scratch the surface.
Newcomer Morgan Davis Foehl replaced Protosevich, but since then there's been no further word on whether he's had any more luck. Both the film's producer Avi Arad and the studio Legendary Pictures have been non-committal in recent months when talking about the project to the media.

Easy solution: Don't adapt game's story. Basing it directly on the games is just plain foolish. There's a whole universe out there to tell original stories with, and it would be a huge missed opportunity to waste it.

I think the key to these adaptions is to take some of the characters and plots, and rework them into a movie. So not a direct adaptation, but broad strokes.

You don't want fans to sleep through a total rehash of the game.

Not expecting to see this in theaters any time soon.

Tons of video game franchises have gotten movie licenses that never amount to anything.

Avi Arad said we're about 5 years away from this.

But whatever, I ****in' love the games and I'm dying to see the film even if it is toned down. I could do without a couple of characters and plot points.

problem is the writers on hollywood coming up with original material on beloved material usually ends up bad and you then see how the game's story was better

prince of persia for example would of been much better if it stuck to the first game which was very dark and gritty and had the sand creatures

Has Avi Arad produced anything else outside of the Marvel flicks, Bratz, and the Pac-Man series?

I just can't see a Mass Effect theatrical movie ever happening. It's budget would be astronomical.

Also look how fans of the series revolted over Mass Effect 3. Game fans an be quite critical and unforgiving.

It really doesn't have to be that massive.

Certainly it needs to be at least around 100 million, but nothing obscene.

Mass Effect is a big name, with a large fan base. Provided they make a decent movie, it's a pretty safe investment.
