Fantasy Masters of the Universe - Part 3

I'm not too clued in but am I wrong to consider the script as important as the director?

I like the idea of Branagah but I also like the idea of many others as well. I think George Miller is the guy that would knock my socks off the if he was announced just because he's made such wildly different films in his career. Not only can he make a badass, visually stunning action masterpiece ike Mad Max: Fury Road but he can also go the sweet, children's film route with Babe.

I could see Brannagh directing this. I mean his Thor movie was basically a remake of Masters of the Universe anyway.

I doubt there's any way they could court George Miller to do this.

I'm well aware dude. I love The Lord of the Rings and that question annoys me. The point is it's equally to dumb to point out "well why can't he just ride the Wind Raider instead of using Battle Cat." It's like constantly asking that same question for Lord of the Rings franchise.
I won't even apologize. If you're a LotR fan then you know how triggering that question is, and you were perfectly aware that some unsuspecting doofus would try to give you an answer. :o

Oh I know. There's plenty of people that could see doing this well, so it's no big deal.

I loved He-Man and the Masters of the Universe as a kid but hadn't seen that cartoon since then until now. Just watched some episodes and I had forgotten how cringe worthy many of it was that even Adam/He-Man's green tiger was named cringer and was such a massive pu___!

I also loved the movie with Lundgren as a kid but thinking closely about it now..Damn!

I can already imagine Orko being like Alpha in the new power rangers movie. I am still attracted to the characters and most characters though, so I'm willing to see how this film develops before writing it offnalready.

The 2000's series is awesome.

this has so much potential.

I'm amazed it hasn't been done for all these years.

This and Voltron are 2 series from my childhood that I'd love to see done properly in live-action.

I don't expect an apology, I was just trying to make a point.

Possibly more-so because of the property being adapted.

I was thinking, obviously James Gunn is going all in with Guardians Vol. 3, so he wouldn't be able to do this one anyway, but has anyone considered a director along those lines? Like maybe Tim Miller of Deadpool, someone who can pull off inventive action while also balancing out the more humorous aspects of the script?

If Tim Miller did this or had any interest in it I'd have a little more confidence about this project. At least Miller has directed one solid movie, and he had to do it on an relatively low budget that also got slashed right before filming. But it wasn't a micro-budget either.

Thing is, the guy in charge is Tom Rothman. The same guy who would never give him the green light to film Deadpool for YEARS.

James Gunn as well. My other outside the box choice is Edgar Wright. I know for a fact that Edgar Wright likes He-Man, but not sure he'd want to do a big budget, franchise-starter attempt movie for Sony after what happened with Ant-Man.

Yeah, the presence of Rothman (as well as Goyer) on this thing, not to mention picking a release date before a director, isn't filling me with confidence for this latest attempt.

That being said, which women directors would be good? I'm sure Lexi Alexander could give it some teeth.

Goyar is a bad sign. It'll most likely be once again a serious gritty take on He-Man.

Kathryn Bigelow.

When has there ever been a gritty take on He-Man?

Indeed. I think some like to use buzz words they picked up from the general online consensus about things but haven't really understood what the specific meaning of the criticism is.

Besides which... Would the world really want a campy and comedic He-Man/Masters film? Anyone that's a fan of the property asking for a film where the characters are not serious? I mean, even a GoTG type vibe where you try to balance the humor and action... Is THAT even what anyone wants? The tone of the 2000's series or the way the mythos was presented in the mini-comics is what most have been asking for, for years. That's a serious and sometimes indeed gritty take on the material.

I think there is a middle ground between constant jokes and He-man taking off Skeletor's head.

I was really big on the 80s cartoon and toys when I was little, and it's that nostalgia that makes me interested in this, but it's dependent on it bringing my nostalgic memories to life rather than being something unrecognizable.

That's not to say that I want it to be exactly like the old show, because I tried watching the first episode one time and quit partway through, but it was something I took seriously as a kid, so I want the movie to be something I can take more or less seriously as an adult. I want them to take the elements and imagery I remember and make something actually good out of it. Whether that's too much to ask, I don't know.

Never gonna happen but I'd love Sony to get emiliano santaluca and James eatock on board as consultants.

Both has long history's with the fan community and could be considered the biggest experts on the history of the property running foundations and being consultants and artists on everything from dvds to collection books

I was referring to Goyars history with making things more serious and gritty not so much a gritty He-Man film. He tends to want to explain everything scientifcly and show how the "real world" would react to it.

I have been advocating for a Madmax/300 style take of MOTU for a long time which is obviously a lot more serious than the OG series. I just dont want it to be the Batman begins version of He-Man.

Any director news yet? Or still silence so far. I mean they do have to get the ball rolling. If it's to come out in 2019,no?
