Max Payne is going to kick ass. Max is such a great homage to the old-time noir detectives but his modern-age ability to deliver action really gives him a good edge as an action hero.

Mark Wahlberg can do this. He needs to play the game first to get an idea of how he should deliver the dead-pan lines and hopefully the script calls for plenty of Voice-Overs like the game...

Damn, I'm so excited for this.

And Fenrir, Max Payne 3 is being worked on by a non-Remedy studio. They've been at it since Microsoft got them doing "Alan Wake" so we might see Max Payne 3 announced next year.

Needs:

- Fcked up crazy villains. Think of 'Running Scared' - but a hell of a lot worse.
- A very interesting color pallete and texture. 'Running Scared' comes to mind again.
- Have VOICE-OVERS (this is a MUST)
- Focus purely on the first movie. DON'T combine the two! Don't have it be MP 2! I've waited a long time for this- I want it to be purely MP1.

Good choice of casting, personally was hoping for Wayne Kramer as director. But, hopefully Moore does the game justice as well.

Also, I never personally saw it as a pure revenge flick- but more of a film noir revenge flick.

you think there will be a scene where max is on drugs? or what about the slow motion bullet effect. this was done to death so i hope that there is only one scene as a homage.

Don't think there will be a nightmare sequence, because those were fcked up. But he might wake up from a nightmare.

A. Mark Whalberg rules

B. John Moore is a very solid director

However....

I am worried, Fox has shown an apathy for making really good action movies, or just movies in general in favor for a quick buck, and I can't say I have ever herd of these writers

I don't know that Marky Mark at this point in his career (i.e. being up for an Oscar, staring role in a solid action flick like shooter) would do **** just for a buck when he can make that same buck doing good stuff, so I hold out hope

potential for this to be awesome is there for the taking, I think if Hitman pans out well my optimism for this will be much much higher

Halle Berry did Catwoman AFTER WINNING an Oscar!

But I can't imagine this ending up anywhere near as bad as Catwoman. And I think Wahlberg would actually be a good fit for the role. Especially after seeing him in Shooter. That movie just kicked all sorts of ass!

I see that as possible, they moved it from september/october to NOVEMBER. November/December/January being the first prime months for 'hollywood' type movies alongside summer.

If it was a bust, they would have moved it up to the typical dumping months after January- not into the prime...

I actually envisioned Michael T. Weiss or even Christian Bale as Max, but Wahlberg is not a bad choice at all. Now I want to see who they'll cast as Mona and Vlad.

*Prays for Mona Sax to be in this*

She was in both titles, so if they are being even remotely faithful to the plot of the games there's a good chance we might see her in the film.

Best news I've heard all day.

This needs to use some of the excellent liens from the game:

"Vinnie Gognitti. Just the man I've been killing to see. "

"Collecting evidence had gotten old a few hundred bullets back."

"There was no glory in this. I hadn't asked for this crap. Trouble had come to me, in big dark swarms. The good and the just, they were like gold dust in this city. I had no illusions. I was not one of them. I was no hero. Just me and the gun, and the crook. My options had decreased to a singular course. "

"I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings. "

"He had a baseball bat and I was tied to a chair. Pissing him off was the smart thing to do. "

And the opening and ending narration should be the same:

Max Payne: [narrating] They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger. And then it was all over. The storm seemed to lose its frenzy. The ragged clouds gave way to the stars above.
NYPD Deputy Police Chief Jim Bravura: [over megaphone from helicopter] Max Payne, this is Deputy Chief Jim Bravura from the NYPD. We've got the building surrounded. Throw down your weapons and lie down with your hands behind your head!
Max Payne: [narrating] A bit closer to heaven.

______

Max Payne: Woden was there... in the crowd, standing by the sidelines. It wouldn't be over till the man with the patch would say so. He'd say the right words. I knew he would. He'd better. He was grinning smugly. It was the grin of a winner.
Max Payne: [is pushed into cop car] That made two of us.

Excellent dialog

Don't forget the mobsters. "Whack da sucka", "Gun 'em down", "Hoooooold it!" and the world's angriest "What da hell!" were fantastic. :woot:

But seriously, Max needs those metaphors to fly out endlessly. "Colder than a walk in fridge... cold as a gun" is just undiluted Max Payne. :woot:

This really makes me want to play Max Payne again. It needs to go up on Steam. :ninja:

A young Hugh Jackman (X-Men and Swordfish days) was an ideal choice of my friend, and I thought that'd be great. With that said, terrific casting of Mark Wahlberg. I mean terrific.

My only complaint is how this will pan out. Hitman seems like some sort of indicator on how well this film may be (I'm talking FOX's role in the film, rushing, etc.)

Hitman still looks like a good movie though. I've been pleasantly surprised by the clips.

I agree Hitman previews look great IMO, I'll just wait and see, high concept action movies from FOX aren't the staple they once where

One thing I absolutely don't want to see adapted from the games is bullet time. Been done to death. Keep it out the film no matter what.

thats a big aspect of the game though .

whaaaaaat??? that was the whole point in the game, max payne without bullet time is nothing!

Oh talking of lines we have to have some moments where the bad guys are holding general discussions about tv and things and then suddenly "Its Max Payne WHACK IM"

Sorry if this has been posted.

20th Century Fox has signed Mark Wahlberg to star in Max Payne, a live-action adaptation of the bestselling Rockstar video game that will begin shooting early next year. John Moore will direct.

Variety says Wahlberg is negotiating to play the titular cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects.

The script was written by Beau Thorne. Julie Yorn is producing through Firm Films, along with Scott Faye.
