I'm seeing this wednesday morning at a press screening. God, how I hope it puts an stop to the endless string of awful videogame films...

You know I remember playing the orignal game halfway thru but there was no supernatural element to it. I'm not even sure there was a story attached. It was just your average third person shootem up. Anyway I got to highly recommend going to the official website because who looks absolutely amazing with the way the flash animation rotations the entire page.

There wasn't any "supernatural" element per se. But in the first game there are mentions of Valkyries and viking mythology. It's just in the film they're actually allowing you to see the Valkyries, whereas in the game it was left to your imagination.

ya action based movies never get good reviews and i never heard of reviewers so who cares

aha now i see it. having ludacris in this movie was not enough. lets also have nelly furtado.

first x-zibit then ludacris and now nelly furtado.

clips can look good. that doesnt man that the movie will.

Something that has been bugging me for a while. Max looks too clean. Not scruffy enough, where's the dirty hawaiian shirt? The permanant 5 o'clock shadow? I should be able to smell the whiskey in his breath through the screen. He just looks like somebody who had watched The Matrix for the first time last night.

Same with the movie, it doesn't look dirty enough. It should practically be black and white.

he looks to clean. i agree.

Well, first 2 reviews are up on RT, both rotten.
They are both from the same website, and IMO they give pretty stupid reason to dislike it...

I never trust a film in which the protagonists have conversations or even arguments in the pouring rain - without umbrellas.
WTF?

There are guns blazing, mysterious winged creatures, a symbolic tattoo, an elusive blue elixir, an unresolved murder and big stunts, yet Max Payne is surprisingly lacklustre
OK, it has a lot of cool stuff, but you don't like it... because...

Reading their full reviews doesn't help...

That first headline did get a HUH? from me.

An incredibly faithful adaptation would be film noir and, as much as I'd love that, it wouldn't of been a great draw at the BO.

Although I do agree, I wanted the hawaiian shirt :(

All things considered, I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully, it'll start a great video-game movie revolution, like X-Men did for comic book films.

i think the trailers all look fantastic, but the clips actually kinda have me second guessing and im not exactly sure why...

I like these clips. I mean it's obvious they are edited for the internet (I mean most are anyway), but the office shootout, the bathroom scene, things like that I really like, and actually I'm more excited for this.

i think clips look good. but in the context of the movie they could be a disaster. like almost every fox movie in the last 4 years.

Despite the PG-13 rating I'm really excited for this. Hopefully this will be the first good video game movie in a long time.

Mother of God, this film is rated PG-13! When I saw the tv spot last night, I shouted, "Damn you Tom Rothman!!"

He probably forced them to cut out all the R bits and cut it to a 90 minute film. And then when the DVD is released they'll make an Unrated version. Has he noticed this isn't working? Does it occur to anyone that sometimes maybe that when something like this happend and its not successful is because its not rated R in the first place? Maybe people actually want to see it rated R?

But other than that, stylistically, it looks sweet.
