An R rating does not automatically equal a good movie.

The director fully supports the PG-13 rating, each version of the movie will be PG-13.
Fair enough it originally got an R, but he barely cut anything and got a PG-13 so it's not a massive change.

They love Mark Walhberg, 'Planet of the Apes' finally opened their eyes to believing that the world will someday be ruled by monkeys.Does anyone else find it funny that The Discovery Channel is sponsering this movie?
What source material? Is this film really going to cater to Max Payne gamers? They can just make it everything up to make it kid and family friendly.
Wow... what a bunch of bull$#&%Nope. They wanted a PG-13 movie, he obliged. The MPAA gave it an R because of the tone, not the content, which they're not supposed to do.
Moore was pissed and, in his own words, said they only cut "a few frames" to get the PG-13 rating. Fox have basically stayed out of this from what we have heard because the director did what they wanted from the start. The opposite happened with Hitman, hence the big re-shoots and re-editing that they did with that.
Empire Review
Come on. It's too easy to review the latest videogame movie blowout by just repeating its title in a sarcastic yet kinda funny way. Surely you can put more thought into summing up how dreary and dopey this revenge rubbish is, although that might be more mental energy expended than was used in the making of a payne-ful (sorry) picture.
Yes, yes. That is all a bit harsh and glib, but giving Max Payne its due is a better deal than it gives viewers. Expecting nothing from a console-to-cinema concoction still leads to disappointment as director John Moore hands down a blank action movie which couldn’t find charisma or coolness at a George Clooney clone factory.
Making Hitman look inventive, or Doom explosive, Max Payne is a drab one-track tale about an automaton copper (stony Wahlberg) who wants to spill the blood of the dude who killed his wife and baby.
Art directed up the wazoo, the wannabe Sin City world of Payne would be stunning if it wasn't so starchy and full of self-importance. Feathery snow falls relentlessly, hardboiled sets hard bubble away, and everyone wears colour co-ordinated outfits trying for Bad Ass Chic. What Moore and his cohorts don’t put on is atmosphere, leaving the steadily worsening Payne to rock our world with, um, well, er, nothing.
Beau Thorne's 'script' dares to take itself seriously, allowing no self-aware zingers or knowing nods about how we all know this is derivative pixel pulp. Instead, with a backstory as complicated as a joystick, Payne is made to allude bullet hailstorms and character progression like a gamer with a shortcut to the next level. Oh, and Thorne also adds garish winged demons to his house of Payne, something the shooter source didn't waste its time with.
When slo-mo shotgunning backflips don't stir your pulse, it's game over. Same goes for Wahlber's cred if he persists with dodgy ventures (Shooter, The Happening) that denigrate his achievements. Perhaps knowing how Payne was going to play out, co-star Mila Kunis tries to stay out of sight although she still gets some of the choicest clunkers. Because being the Hitman hussy wasn't enough, upcoming Bond girl Olga Kurylenko is a moll in Max Payne. She might be prouder than Beau Bridges, whose rent-a-mentor is far from brother Jeff's similar duties in Iron Man.
Verdict
Shooting blanks, the latest videogame movie maintains the genre's consistent output.

What I got from that review was...that the reviewer is clueless.
He was expecting something OTHER than a revenge flick?
Wow... what a bunch of bull$#&%Always has to be about the box-office, doesn't it?... To hell with it, I guarentee this film is gonna be garbage. Won't catch me watchin' this, considered they're so damn worried about the rating. However, maybe I'll wait for the "Unrated" version, because a movie based off of 'Max Payne', SHOULD be "Rated R".
Home run for 'thejon93', I only hope you all will follow.
I love reading posts like this, people trying to deny a bad film for indeed being a "bad film". Of all the years I've been enduring bad films(16), I don't know how the rest of you can continue to think that mundaned crap like this is continually worth-watching, it's easy to be tricked by big-budget, big-summer flicks, but this, this you can just sense is bad. What I got from that review was...that the reviewer is clueless.
