also they should not be afraid of an r for this reason as well :

max payne has little to no competition on the 17th :
- Quarantine - rather watch the Original {REC} but it will probably still be solid
- W. looks like a parody of GW who really cares even if Brolin is in it
- Sex Drive - looks like a very missable random rated R Comedy with nobodies in it
also not to mention Whalberg is a pretty big Hollywood name Actor who will draw people in and look at wanted it was rated r and did great at BO and it was the furthest from a great adaption you could see while Max Payne looks pretty damn accurate i see nothing to worry about when making money is involved only problem i could see is Body Of Lies giving them problems in 2nd week in theaters

My problem with this as a gamer and film fan is that the director and studio have taken one of the first good M rated story driven games and decided it needs to be PG-13. This is one of the reasons that game movies rarely achieve the greatness they clearly could.

With films like 300 embracing there R ratings and still making boat loads of money at the box office and on dvd sales why are studios still so afraid of the R rating?
I think u can still achieve a good action movie going the pg-13 route, its just boils down to editing it without losing any substance or flow to the movie....Which was a major pitfall in Babylon A.D. it was cutup soo bad it had no flow or any substance(bring this movie up as many ppl thrashed the movie/movie studio for its debacle).
I agree that I think there is a certain steretype when it comes to comic/game movies that they have to be totally mainstream, but I understand studios want to make as much money as they can so its a catch 22 in ways..

The studio mindset though is flawed and stupid when you see longer movies and R-rated movies doing very well and making tons of money.

The Dark Knight is a 2 and a half hour super hero movie and is on tap to make $1 billion worldwide.

Something a Fox comic book super hero movie will not touch anytime soon. Fox was probably livid that X-men 2 dared to be over 2 hours and 10 minutes.

It's not that rare. Select R-rated tentpoles have proven to be big earners as well in the 90's and 00's.

A distribution prez's philosophy though is make it funny, make it under 2 hours, and make it under PG-13.

The hits made by people like Judd Apatow and Pixar, people who actually respect the artists and the talent, generally flies in the face of executive and distribution chief philosophies.

hope mpaa sticks to its guns and gives it a r rating and the film makes money just to open fox's eyes that you don't need pg13 to make money

i wouldnt be so sure this'll make much money..

as ive stated before it'll make a bit more than hitman numbers

Exactly. This movie isn't going to blow anyones mind at the BO and it's certainly not going to make Fox change.

Plenty of their crappy PG-13 movies have made a lot of money. 1 R rated movie, filmed to be a PG-13 isn't going to outweight those.

I tell ya, if Fox isn't careful, they're gonna be in trouble. A lot of people are becoming wise to their act, how they continuously just rape movies for the sake of making a buck. LGF isn't far behind, either.

hey guess what, out of the big six movie studios F*X has come last making the least amount of money so far this year with almost all of their big movies being flops.

I just hope this film doesn't turn out like alot of other movie games. It sure looks like it will defenitely be better than all those other movie games. Much more of a drama and has more story to it than other movie games as well.

Quotes from J Moore:

You can’t advertise an R-rated movie before 9 p.m. in most states.

All thanks to Bush & his family film act. Before 2003 this wasn't a big issue. But here in Michigan, I see trailers for R rated movies before 9 p.m, so I'd like to know the states he speaks of.

You can’t advertise an R-rated movie in front of a PG-13 movie.

Okay, bulls#!t. I saw the trailers for Tropic Thunder in front of Get Smart, Death Race in front of Hellboy 2 and Body Of Lies in front of The Dark Knight.(All R rated.)

If advertising is a problem, then it's simple. Work around it. Advertise like crazy in the evening. Put "not yet rated" trailers in front of programs in the morning/afternoon. Advertise via myspace or facebook.

I'm sure the director/crew is obligated to deliver a PG-13 movie, so if the R rating stands, FOX can make them cut it until they achieve the PG-13

Only chance the movie remains R, is that FOX decides it so... and that would take a visit of the 3 ghosts of christmas...

I'm gonna see this simply because i've had a crush on Marky Mark, since his funky bunch days.

*drools*

I know jack **** about Max Payne but I'm a big Mark fan. Hence I'm excited for this.

All the previews look good so far, I am definitely interested. I hope they don't screw it up.

*I haven't played the games, so the movie is winning me on its own standards so far.

wow, that intro they have on IGN is amazing. is that the movie intro?????

He looks great in costume, but Marky Mark just doesn't have the voice for Max Payne. It's not a dealbreaker or anything, but still.

According to a new tv spot Max Payne has been rated R for intenese sequences of violent action, some language and brief drug content.

I'm a bit disappointed by this. This film should be--or rather, should have been--developed, marketed, and released as an 'R' Rated film. No ifs, ands, buts, woulda, coulda, whatevers. The games were exceptionally dark, possibly one of the only TRUE noir games ever produced and that's from every and all angles. The film should likewise, without question, be as such. I don't even understand how it got to the point it's at now.

This film should be damn near Sin City dark, not quite as over the top, but a brutal assault none-the-less. TDK didn't deserve an R rating and I don't truthfully think they should be compared. TDK or any Batman film should be dark, but a more imaginative wonderful type of dark developed for a larger audience. Max Payne is an in your face, this is how it is, type of dark developed and made for Adults period. And that's the true discussion here, Moore vigorously states that he was making a PG-13 film from the start and corresponded to scenes and actors making them withhold what would be considered "adult R" material. Why!? This is the real and true call for concern. We have a film made cut-up, made to be cut-up, and now is more than likely going to be cut-up even moore

Lastly, and even more importantly is a point someone made a few weeks ago about marketing the film towards an audience WAY too young to play the actual games. This is a problem on multiple fronts for multiple reasons, not the least of which being that it's utterly stupid as hell.

This better at least be a hard PG-13.

if they wanted max payne to be like constantine so badly, they probably should have just made a sequel.
