Why the heck is this movie PG-13?

That is such epic fail.

What, what, W-H-A-T!?!?!? the film is pg-13. WTF... My god you've got to be kidding me.

oh no!!! you mean there won't be blood/guts, or the F word?!

blasphemy!

seriously, who cares? it all depends on how they present it. i mean, the dark knight? live free or die hard? plenty of movies have pushed the PG13 rating, and, judging by the previews, this movie looks to be one of them. and if it's not? so what? it's obviously not going to be all sunshine and lollypops.

^totally agree all rated r lets us see its boobs/f bombs/ and gore max Payne doesn't certainly need any of them you can be reall violent and not show blood

yes i have but we don't need limbs flying off cgi blood can work just fine for it max payne isn't exactly kill bill

Max Payne was always dark, but it didn't really get "rated R" dark until Max Payne 2. So, they could still pull it off with a PG-13.

why are we still arguing the rating, it is what it is now. The trailers look great so far. So im optimistic.

Lets not forget, The Dark Knight was PG13, was plenty morbid/creepy and had awesomeness to spare.

The Payne games have violence and bloodshed aplently, and a fair amount of swearing IIRC but very little in the way of sex & other oogie things that seem to make the ratings people say "Squick!"

A PG13 rating for Max Payne (let's assume a somewhat "hard" PG13, again, Dark Knight) seems about right to me.

Payne doesn't need an R rating IMO.

the Die Hard 4 argument is stupid though, as the Unrated version is far superior.

UNrated version of Die Hard 4 is definitely better, but "far superior." All they did was drop a few f-bombs and blood spurts. Its undoubtedly better but its not exactly a crazy improvement.

I actually don't think it is better personally, the editing was better in the theatrical cut, adding in the blood and F bombs affected that.

Werent they actually edited out of the theatrical not edited into the unrated version though?

I'm sure I remember reading that because they were spending so much to bring back such a big franchise the director was required to edit a PG-13 version of the movie. I'm pretty sure that was the rating from the start of production. So it wasn't the usuall 'wait until the last minute and attack' method that Fox are so used to.

I have to agree though, the changes in the 'Unrated' version in regards to bad language and blood felt so forced I thought it was even worse.

The thing here is the game was always based around the excess. The pair of games are some of my favorite and what made them great were how over the top they were. This dark noir parody. You have the stereotype characters, the goofy rag doll, Max getting shot in every which place, slow mo bullets through the skull, and diving through the air at all moments. When they saw what they could get away with, they just upped it in the second game.
