There weren't, but in the movie they are hallucinations due to the drug. In the game, the people who were all drugged out on Valkyr would ramble on about the "flesh of fallen angels", so they just took it a step further in the movie.

Cool--thanks for the info.. I remember staring at Mona Sax most of the time

:funny:

I actually thought Mila Kunis was surprisingly convincing in her role, even though she was under used IMO.

LOL. Pullin' out the H-card, the number one go-to criticism by 99% of the internet's irritated film-fan community. I take off my hat to you, sir.

But seriously, all reviews are ultimately based on emotional response filtered through intellectual reasoning. Max Payne was a dreadfully dull 100 minutes of my life. I longed to see something (anything!) that would alleviate my boredom for a second, and the director failed to provide that. Most bad movies are forgettable and not worthy of irritation, and can be covered with a dismissive dismantling of their assorted faults. This junker digs deep and pulls the vitriol to the surface. I felt it would be dishonest to hide that emotional reaction, and was honestly expressing my bewilderment over it's flaws. This film received the analysis and insight that it deserved. Sue me.

Oh, and I'm baffled by your comment about me being "off" about the videogame industry? All I said was that I stopped following it years ago.

lol...congratulations! you can use big words to make you come off nerdier than anyone could have ever hoped or dreamed!

And I read your comment wrong about the video game industry...i ******edly read it as "It must be said that video games fell well off THE radar shortly after the inglorious final death rattle of the Nintendo 64." So yeah, you got me there you cheeky fella.

But yeah, asides from that...you sound like one of those guys whose nerdy as hell and wears a fedora to try and look cool. I know, i'm kinda being a dick here...but you should ton down the pompousness a little if you expect people read your reviews...cause it seems like you want to be a respectable critic and if you talked a little more human, I could see my self actually reading all of what you have to say!

The End

Back on topic...I want to see the movie but it appears to be coming off as a bit of a turkey :(

It is that Silent Hill kind of movie where in the general spectrum of movies...it's really not good...but if you were into the video game then you will enjoy it a lot? I know the acting was spotty in Silent Hill (putting it lightly) but i liked the actors and they got the atmosphere from the game PERFECT!

I meant at the game :o

I know, you just reminded me of a point I failed to mention, that's all.

As far as the comments above go, I'm a big fan of the Silent Hill series and I thought the movie was awful. They got the atmosphere right, but everything else was wrong, wrong, wrong. I still don't understand how you can adapt one the scariest games ever and somehow the film just isn't scary.

I think Max Payne just took itself way too seriously, and in doing so eliminated a lot of the fun they could've had with it.

Perhaps we'll get to see a director's cut someday..? I think John Moore's still whining

so...how was it? Worth seeing or is this like Hitman...wait to rent the dvd?

You know what, I saw this in a triple feature with Eagle Eye and Body of Lies. All three had bad reviews. I loved all three. Yes, I loved this movie. I had lots of fun. It was nice to see old school one dude vs many shootouts with great gun sound effects. I thought Wahlberg as Payne was very good (I like him as a bad ass anyway). My favorite parts of the game ended up being my favorite part of the movie too (The Aesir building shootouts). I really liked the cinematography. And for the exception of the omen remake, john moore pretty much a guilty pleasure director for me. I know he's not great, but the films are enjoyable for the most part. Plus there were scenes from the game that I was very pleased with in the movie.

The End

Dude, that fedora line made my night! In fact, I may use that somewhere down the line on my blog or in a review or something. Don't worry, I'll quote you accurately and give proper credit.

Am I nerd? Yeah. I write movie reviews for God's sake! And post them on SUPER HERO HYPE! A place where grown adults congregate to talk about whether Joker`s skin should be bleached or make-up! And I`m not hating either, simply saying that he who lives in a glass house shouldn`t throw stones.

As for me being overly verbose, well chalk that up to a combination of being an english major and writing three of those damn things a week. After a while, you find an overwhelming urge to find new words to express what are often the same old things. I`d rather that my reviews reflect my vocabulary than try to sound edgy through pithy sarcasm and vulgarity, or dumbing it down just for the sake of easy consumption. The people on here, and those who are able to read my reviews in print, are smart individuals who can figure them out. And if they`re stuck on the odd word, God forbid they look it up and learn something. I imagine most don`t have that problem, and they are the people I write for: literate adults who find AICN-type reviews annoying.

And I get that you don`t like them. Good on you. I hope you find other users`opinions more befitting to your personal tastes.

...Now, where`s my pimpin`fedora...

Ugh, they screwed this movie up bad. They took the story that the game told so elegantly, and did it in the most ham-fisted way possible. There are huge holes in the plot too. Hopefully the rumors about Fox doing a Daredevil to this thing in editing were true, and we'll see a good directors cut someday.

hahahhha

its always nice to see pople weeks before the realese saying ''just whait until the movie comes out''

there is no waiting when it comes to a FOX movie. when will people understand this. from the comments that i read her and the reviews this is a classic FOX movie.

i wonder if you will go watch the next FOX movie :hehe:

"He's not dead...he's HERE!"

omg, I laughed SO damn hard in the middle of my silent theater at that line.

I will. But I do work at a movie theater, and get in for free. So even when a movie sucks like this, I can't be that upset about it really, at least in a "god damn, what a waste of $8!" way.

I never played the game but I liked the movie. I like noir and the movie had a noirish feel to it. A lot of it reminded me of the upcoming Spirit movie. With the use of color snow and special effects. Amazing special effects by the way. One of the best I've seen. Also when max is getting beat up by the guy in that hallway , they put red in when he got hit, a lot like one of the spirit trailers. Like I said I don't know anything about the game but I thought the movie was great, I don't know why it got such bad reviews. Its a sweet shoot-e-up movie : ) I'd give it a 9.

I'm assuming you're talking about the end of the film? It's not a bad line. It was just delivered at the wrong time and Max definitely should've looked like he was near death.

That line was actually taken from the end of Max Payne 2.

It was
the V that made him better right. I loved that crazed look on his face as he was shooting at them, seeing the Valkyr.

Funnily enough, I thought one of the best performances came from Chris O'Donnel.

So the movie is s**t? I like Mark but I'm going to pass, I'm tired of seeing bad movies from Fox. I'm thinking about boycotting the studio for f**king up DB so hard.

This movie was okay. There were a few things entertaining in it, and I do like Mark Wahlberg, but overall it was just alright. A few eye rolling moments here and there, but some cool action sequences. Chris O'Donnel did a good job, too. The style of the film was also amazing. Also, why the hell was this PG-13? It was so obvious that they'll probably trimmed it for the PG-13 rating, they should have just left it at an R...but then again, this was Fox.

Did anyone stay after the credits?

See the movie for yourself. I happened to catch some of it last night at work and it wasn't bad honestly. I hate Fox as much as the next guy, however, the look of the film is very faithful to the game and Mark has Max down pretty good.

Although to be fair the writing in some scenes is very weak and I believe if Mark was allowed to be the Max we know, he would've been the perfect Max Payne. But from what I've seen it looked pretty good and it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

I will say that if you haven't played the game you probably won't like it.

I have always said they stole the blue print for this styled movie from Constatine. Only Constatine had better cast.
