MCU Doctor Doom

Cumberbatch would have been a good option if he wasn't Dr Strange. And I wish Mads wasn't wasted on kaecilius. He would have been perfect. William Dafoe would be pretty cool.

I feel like that would be pretty unnecessary and weren’t you the one wondering if audiences would unfairly compare Doom to Vader earlier in the thread? What’s there to gain in drawing a much more direct line to contrast the two? The likely thing to happen is that Doom will get get the biggest name of the cast and might be cast younger than well expect.

Wasn’t me, unless the context was different. I think vader was inspired by doom.

Too young is not right really, he shouldn’t be an angsty teen. He knows what he’s doing

I think they should cast Mads as Doom, since he'll be behind the mask most of the time anyway. Just give him some makeup and prosthetic to make him look different than Kaecilius.

Yeah, he could be an awesome Doom and I don’t think it matters for a character who is totally synonymous with the iconic mask.

Not that young. Early 30’s would be my guess. When the time comes to integrate the Fantastic Four and their respective mythos into the MCU (I know this is a superhero movie message forum but, boy, should that be the least of all of our concerns...) I think they’ll go for a Dr. Doom young enough have only just started his takeover of Latveria and neighboring nations. Early 30’s, at least.

Early 30s is a bit too young. He won't have the necessary gravitas to pull off Doom, and that is one of the most important things.

If James Earl Jones were young enough, he could've done the voice of Doom too.

What about the voice of John Noble?

Okay, there’s not going to be two actors playing Doom. I’m pretty sure of that. Yes, he’s the Darth Vader of the Marvel universe, because he helped inspire Darth Vader, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be portrayed as Vader has.

I’m not totally against the idea, but I’m sure it’s not the route they’ll take. Regarding age, I think early 30’s good. Remember, this would be the start of a new series within the franchise. I’m thinking Reed Richards is cast less like RDJ in the first Iron Man and more like Pratt in Guardians. Someone with a sensible enough amount of exposure. Someone younger than those we’ve championed for the role prior (Krasinski and Isaac.)

Doom should be within that same age range. I also just really like the concept of treating Doom a bit like Thanos, teasing him in the background, just not as drawn out as the former was. If one element of Noah Hawley’s treatment makes it into the MCU, I’d want it to be Doom as a sort of anti-Iron Man/Doctor Strange. Someone who goes through what could be considered a hero’s origin story but ultimately comes out as a villain. The villain.

I really dont think age matters as as much for Doom's casting. He's going to be behind a mask 99% of the time. The only time we need to see his face is for an origin segment, which would likely have taken place while he was young. An actor in his early 30s can pull off Doom

My pick would be Richard Armitage. He has already been in a Marvel movie but it was just a small role, so I don't think it matters.

I hear that...for years ever since I saw Mads in Hannibal and Casino Royale, I thought of his presence, his acting ability, and accent and said, "Mads, you are perfect as Victor Von Doom"...I would love nothing more than to see him cast as Doom regardless of his Kaecilius peformance....

Someone suggested if they get mads to play Doom he could just mention he has a brother that trifled with Magics. It kind of works and could replace his mum getting fridged.

And early 30s doom is way too young. At the very least, late thirties even forties is fine. He shouldn’t be a teen wolf type Doom.

I was thinking today how fun it would be if they modelled Reed on Brian Cox. That would be fun to establish the character and would be fun for the actor. Plus they wouldn’t necessarily have to do the geeky can’t talk to girls thing

Please tell me that you mean Brian Cox the physicist and former musician and not Brian Cox the actor. Because the former is the epitome of cool brilliance and the latter...played Stryker in X2.

Yeah, we don't need Reed to look like Sue's grandfather:

And I think that having Doom back in the MCU fold gives them a very classic Disney villain. He's like the epitome of the evil emperor, sinister sorcerer and tin woodman rolled into one.

Now if we can get Lily James as Sue, she'll be like the embodiment of the Disney princess.

Not all outcomes will be awesome...

Haha of course I mean the scientist!

They could even have a scientist off, Neil degrasse Tyson as The Thing, Hannah Fry as Susan etc lol. But no seriously basing Reed off Brian (the scientist) would be mega cool.

If they did cast a younger doom, perhaps for the Reed and Victor at uni scene, they should get Sergei Polunin to play Doom.

That is exactly a look Doom would wear

You can't just put Mads behind the mask and expect no one to notice. The problem with casting him as Doom is he has a very distinctive voice. Which of course is why you'd want him as Doom in the first place but unfortunately he's already played Kaecilius. It'd be really jarring to have Doom sound exactly like Kaecilius. I would definitely prefer Mads as Doom over Kaecilius but what's done is done. I think they should just look for a different great actor. There's plenty to choice from.

While everybody is speaking about the voice and actor and that's definitely one of the most important aspects, I'm hoping that, beyond a great actor and voice, they go with the geopolitical thriller angle on the bastard and really ground him in some aspects of reality like those autocratic dictators of smaller nations.

That could also be reflected on his look as well. I saw some concept art ideas of a militarized Doom figure that really make perfect sense to me in MCU's Avengers world:

Or this plus the hood:

Even if it's for introduction's sake, I really feel that they need to touch up his design a bit and then, sure, go wild with a combat armor for him. The original look, while iconic, is just a big full-body knight armor with a green garment and hood. Pretty sure they can do better without Baron Zemoing him.

In my version of this Doom, after an accident that he claims scarred him which included the vague involvement of well known scientist Reed Richards, Victor returned home and wearing a simple mask with slits for the eyes and mouth, became the defacto leader of the political resistance in his home country of Latveria. At first peaceful eventually Victor became the military leader of the rebellion as well. He became a high profile figure on the world stage not unlike a Che, Mao, or Castro. He championed the rights of the oppressed Romani of his nation as was seen as quite sympathetic. He marshalled his forces in the mountain lands of his ancestors using his own genius to arm and equip his followers. Eventually he overcomes the repressive forces. He does all this BEFORE unveiling the armor. It's as ruler that he dons the metal suit which he would make so infamous.

How does anyone feel about introducing Doctor Doom before Fantastic Four in a solo film? I don't think its a good idea to re-introduce the character in the MCU in yet another Fantastic Four film? I think Doom needs a fresh introduction.
