MCU Fight: Fenris vs Kurse

We will be doing VS. battles for the MCU every week and will be using the Winners and Losers to create an accurate power tier list created by some of it's biggest fans (you). So don't forget to VOTE and after voting for a Winner please include a comment on which power tier, both the Winner and Loser should reside within. Also, see below for more details on the characters abilities as well as for a list of available power tiers to choose from.

So, without further delay here is this week's match up.

FENRIS Vs. KURSE

FENRIS

- Asgardian Wolf Physiology: Fenris, as an Asgardian Wolf, and the personal pet of the Goddess of Death Hela, is one of the most powerful and fearsome beings in the Nine Realms, to the point that even Heimdall showed visible signs of fear when cornered by the beast on the Rainbow Bridge, only preparing to face it once he knew it was absolutely necessary.

- Superhuman Strength: Fenris has tremendous strength that can match that of the Hulk, which allowed her to engage the latter in a brief, albeit vicious battle. Fenris' immense jaw strength allowed her to bite through Hulk's immensely durable flesh, causing Hulk to bleed, as well as to lift and throttle him around like a rag doll in his mouth. Indeed, Hulk would only win by default when Fenris fell down the waterfall into space.

- Superhuman Durability: Fenris is highly invulnerable, as she was unscathed after getting shot at by Asgardian ships, and even after battling the Hulk.

KURSE

- Superhuman Strength: Algrim's original level of strength as a Dark Elf was tremendously increased to incalculable superhuman levels thanks to the Kurse Stone. He proved able to easily smash Asgardian architecture, punch right through nigh-impenetrable Asgardian force fields, send Thor flying or knock him down with a single blow, and completely overpower the mighty Asgardian in a brutal fight, to the point that the otherwise nigh-invulnerable Thor sustained injuries and was unable to effectively fight back. Kurse was even unfazed by blows from Mjølnir, and could even deflect the hammer in full flight with a blow, in spite of it being one of the most powerful weapons in existence.

- Superhuman Durability: After becoming Kursed, Algrim's body became extremely durable and resistant to physical injury. He has been struck by Asgardian blades, withstood a direct blast from the Asgardian Shield generator, and even taken direct blows from Thor and Mjølnir with no apparent injury or effect. A Black Hole Grenade was one of the few things powerful enough to destroy him, completely.

- Burning Grip: After becoming Kursed, Algrim/Kurse showed the ability to incinerate Asgardian Warriors, with superhuman durability with his grip.

As far as we know Fenris has been killed before, Kurse I'm not sure can really be.

To be honest there's not much information on either - so it's very difficult to work out.

However, one important limitation on Kurse's power is that it is (strongly implied in Thor TDW) that it is finite and will ultimately kill him.

There's this bit of dialogue in the film

ALGRIM: The worlds are nearly aligned.
MALEKITH: You will be the last of the Kursed.
ALGRIM: Let my life be sacrificed. It is no less than our people did, or you have done.
[Malekith stabs Algrim in the stomach. He presses his forehead against Algrim’s.]
MALEKITH: You will become darkness. Cursed to this existence until it consumes you.

MALEKITH: Until then, no power our enemies possess can stop you.
Algrim: I will tear down their defences and ensure your return to a universe reborn.

As for Fenris, we really don't know how badly injured or how relatively uninjured he was during the Hulk-fight - although we know his teeth could pierce Hulk's skin.

Of course, Kurse has more than just physical strength, he was able to burn Asgardian warriors into withered husks with a touch - and his punches are able to smash magical objects and barriers.

I would say that if Kurse could get a solid grip on Fenris, he would crush/burn him - remember how strong he was, relative to Thor.

However, if Fenris is actually invulnerable/immortal then the fight could go on until Kurse's power burnt out.

I'm going to go with Kurse on this one - and also say Kurse beats Hulk and Ghost Rider.

Great match-up man, very hard one to judge.

Im going to have to go with Fenris.


How They Lost 1. Both Fenris & Kursed looked like they were going to get the best of Hulk & Thor until both heroes were saved by extenuating circumstances. DRAW

Origin 2. Both are created/resurrected by some sort of magic. Kursed with the Kursed stone and Fenris resurrected by Hela. I've got to go with Hela's resurrection as giving more power she is the goddess of death. FENRIS

Physical Strength 3. While I think this initially looks an easy win for Kurse its closer I think. Kurse has a lot of easy to look at and judge strength feats like the boulder, the prison break and others. Fenris runs directly as Hulk and pushes him back before biting him and breaking his skin before they tumble in to the water. To my knowledge this is the first time since Hulk fought Abomination we have seen him bleed other than from the nose. Hulk stopped an entire Chitauri ship with one punch so the fact Fenris could just run right over Hulk is massive. I also feel like the strength of Fenris bite would be more dangerous that Kurse physical strength. FENRIS

Durability 4. Fenris has took gunfire & shots from the Hulk like they were nothing. However Kurse just has better feats here. He's straight up batted away an incoming Mjølnir like a house fly, was stabbed multiple times, took punches from Thor and shots from Asguardian weapons. KURSE

Speed 5. Even though there are very few feats for either guy one I feel like Fenris is a safe bet here. If there was one disadvantage to becoming Kurse it did look like it slowed the host body down slightly. FENRIS

I can see him breaking Fenris' jaw like King Kong does to the T-Rexes in that god-awful 2005 Kong Movie.

Kurse wins this. He utterly thrashed Thor, who was roughly an equal with Hulk in their major throw down. Fenris lost to the Hulk. Kurse I think is a step above Hulk, therefore a step above Fenris.

Fenris same tier as Thor and Hulk. Kurse a tier higher, or at least if in same tier, at the top end of the tier.

Kurse stands head and shoulders above both Thor and Hulk imo. With just a few hits he was able to make Thor bleed. In contrast, Thor no-sold a prolonged beating from Hulk in Ragnarok.

I got to go with Kurse on this one. I still think both are Transcendent Tier. Hulk was losing to Fenris except he threw him off the Waterfall. So, it was only a Circumstantial win. Same thing with Thor. However, for me Kurse has the bigger feat by taking down Thor Vs. Fenris taking down Hulk. Close match though, but still I say Kurse.

I feel like Kurse is getting underrated here, despite people clearly citing his impressive feats, which include swatting Mjolnir away easily and manhandling Thor.

Fenris is Asgardian, and Nurse's powers seemed especially effective against Asgardian technology and against Asgardian warriors. As such I believe he has the right power set to defeat Fenris.

If we're going to go for tiers I say Kurse is top of powerhouse or bottom of transcendent.

He beat Fenris due to circumstance, nothing he did hurt Fenris in the slightest.
