Marvel Films MCU Thunderbolts - Team suggestions?

That's the lineup everyone else thinks it will be because except for Yelena, it's all villains. Perhaps Yelena's appearance in Hawkeye is a precursor instead to her joining the Avengers. As for Abomination, they are going to need some muscle and I have my doubts that William Hurt is going to end up being Red Hulk and Liv Tyler is probably never coming back to the MCU anyways.

So who do you think should be the Thunderbolts, if it happens?

Citizen V, Meteorite, Mach-1, Songbird, Techno, Atlas, and Jolt.

Going to have to introduce those other 5 in different movies or Disney+ shows. That will take a while because I think the main baddie for Captain Marvel 2 will be a rebel Skrull.

I do think Young Avengers is happening though but the question is who will play Iron Lad? Jonathan Majors will play Kang and Iron Lad is a younger version of Kang, but Majors is 31.

Then I say introduce them already.

even if they are introduced, there's no guarantee they survive or even if they will ever be introduced.

Look, I am basing my list of Thunderbolts based on villains who have survived or are likely to survive in the MCU like Taskmaster and John Walker. I put Yelena on the team, but that is all dependent upon if she's still on the good side by the end of the movie. It's based on what the MCU has given us so far in terms of villains. Sure, not all villains in the MCU who have survived will join the Thunderbolts (because I don't see them adding a wizard/sorcerer/witch) but a lot of them will probably join the MCU version of the Thunderbolts.

It may not be the lineup you want, but some combination of the villains I mention will probably be the lineup we are going to get in the MCU.

I really hope that the Thunderbolts won‘t be a group that was recruited by
Val
without Thunderbolt Ross

I have fear the general audience will see Thunderbolts will look like a Suicide Squad copycat and will suspend this dance. Im not much invested in comics, are they likely the same?

Anyway, I would hope that Yelena, Walker and Agatha are in this :halo:

The huge difference is, that we already care for the characters, whereas in Suicide Squad we only know Harley Quinn.
US Agent, Zemo and Yelena maybe Ghost will already be established characters, where you understand their motivations. We know, but maybe don‘t like Thadeus Ross, Abomination and who else will be in the team. If he‘ll be on the team as well, than Justin Hammer will be a scene stealer again.
It’s like Avengers 1 but with a villainous turn, where the most interesting part was how everyone acts/fights together.

Why would Justin Hammer be on the team? That makes no sense.

Part of me is afraid it may come across as (or just straight up get turned into) just the mcu Suicide Squad, but if they really stick to the core of the comics it absolutely should be very different.

Suicide Squad comics are very much about terrible people doing good things, often because they're forced to, sometimes in exchange for something and very occasionally of their own volition, and there's a LOT of sudden turns and backstabbing, even teammembers killing each other and the stories often involve the squad being sent on super-dark missions that 'real heroes' like the Justice League would never agree to. (I recall one story that involved killing babies in order to prevent some kind of terrible biological outbreak.)

The Thunderbolts aren't supposed to be bad guys that are just forced/convinced to do good things and they don't usually do highly questionable black ops missions like the Squad do. The Thunderbolts are a straight up superhero team just like the Avengers or the X-Men, with the big difference that all the members used to be bad guys. But the focus of the whole series is very strongly on the idea of rehabilitation - who has truly rehabilitated themselves, who is faking it, who genuinely wants to rehabilitate but is really bad at it or just keeps having relapses, etc. And also on how society responds to villains that genuinely try to be better - can they be trusted, should they just be in prison or is that a waste of their potential to help, etc.

Unless, that is, they're not really doing the traditional Thunderbolts but are straight-up adapting Thunderbolt Ross's Thunderbolts instead - that was a completely different group and they were really just a bunch of semi-psychotic anti-heroes working together to help each other clear up some lose ends that they couldn't fix individually.

Why would Justin Hammer be on the team? That makes no sense.

Because he's a pre-existing MCU villain the audience will recognize. Having people recognize the characters from previous movies and then seeing them try to become heroes instead would be an obvious way of adapting the Thunderbolts into the MCU (just like the original Thunderbolts were all characters that were already known as villains to the comics audience at the time, except Jolt). Presumably if he's on the team he'll probably use some sort of knock-off Iron Man technology, since that's what he's all about.

What's he going to do? Build weapons that don't work?

I do agree, that if US Agent survives F&WS, than there‘s no need for another anti-hero in stars and stripes.
Then they probably should save Hammer for Armor Wars.
But one thing is sure: Sam Rockwell delivered one of the best performances of a supporting villain in the MCU and needs to return

They might be able to get Agatha on the team, but I don't see the team ever getting an android or alien like the Avengers have had.

Everyone speculated about Yelena joining but obviously that would be Taskmaster. I thought maybe Red Guardian too but I don't see that happening.

Walker, Taskmaster, Abomination are three that I'm almost certain will be in the MCU Thunderbolts.

I don't see Thunderbolt Ross being Red Hulk. I see his role being more like SLJ with the Avengers though. I also don't think Red Guardian survives Black Widow.

Exactly! Hammer will be off brand Iron Man. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes on the Mach 1 name.

As to the lineup.......Zemo, Blonsky (rechristened as A-Bomb), Walker, Ghost, Hammer and Belova with Val the head of the team and Ross the government liaison. Moonstone - rumored to be introduced in the CM sequel - Batroc and Taskmaster are also possible roster fits now or in the future.

I still doubt anyone but Wanda or Strange could free Agatha from her condition, and I also doubt Yelena would be the one who gets recruited out of the Black Widow movie.

But I'll be happy with any lineup as long as they really do the Thunderbolts concept justice (regarding rehabilitation). And also, just please, please include Songbird, even if she has to be added as the brand new junior character who is introduced in the film/show itself. As by far the most successful Thunderbolt in the comics (and the longest running Thunderbolt and basically the face of the whole concept) she needs to be there.

Morbius, Mysterio, Electro, Green Goblin, Vulture, Doc Ock. That's my current prediction for the MCU lineup.

The three I think are nearly guaranteed to be involved are Zemo, Ghost and Ross. All 3 have been Thunderbolts members in the comics and all are surviving MCU villains that have been set up for more appearances.

Why would Yelena work with these people?

May be forced too, may be not as innocent as people are expecting. Yelena doesn't necessarily seem to have a problem with murdering.

She's probably not really a "Hero" Zemo wanted to kill Karli but not because he's a good person, maybe Yelena wants to Kill Taskmaster because he's leading the RED Room and hurting more innocent girls. She could still be a morally Grey person who finds working with the team to be redemption.

Personally though, I think she's hiding something.

Wasn't there a rumor last year that
the Black Widow post-credits scene shows that Yelena and Taskmaster were working for Thunderbolt Ross?

Yep, on the spoiler Reddit it's been tossed around with a few others. Not sure of the original source though.
