Who would you guys like to tackle MCU's X-Men? I'd task the Duffer Brothers.
Who are the Duffer Brothers? Do they make this?

Personally I hope Kevin Feige make his debut on this. MCU got great 2nd & 3rd unit directors for the action anyways.

Fans always gotta make things more complicated than they have to be.
Modernizing it is one thing. However, one of the suggestions was no explanation for his motivations and the other was a general act of racism. I think it should be connected to something from reality, because that is the only way it has impact. I agree it cannot be the Holocaust if they reboot. But if that is the case, they'd probably have to think of something with direct real world implications that make people uncomfortable. I don't think it should be vague. Some suggestions like making him be from Afghanistan or something that stirs a reaction for people is necessary. Otherwise, a large part of the complexity of the character is lost. As is the irony of a victim of genocide increasingly becoming intolerant or bigoted as time passes.
Thanks all.
Leo, I don't hold anything against you or think ill of your character. You look like nothing worse than a passionate X-Men fan caught in the dichotomy of the X-Men, perhaps without really understanding the issues at play.
Agreed.
Which is simpler? Xavier and Magneto have been actively using their powers in secret in the past ten years OR Xavier, and the O5 have been battling Magneto and perhaps others in secret for the past ten years?
Which is simpler? Magneto is a WWII survivor who as cryogenically frozen, or has a secondary mutation that slows his aging OR that he's a survivor of the Cambodian Genoicde?
The fact is that we've been immersed in crazy storylines so long, that we consider question begging retcons and insertions of random genres to be simple, when they are not, we're just used to them.
I agree, but...Disney.
If they use Magneto at all (and they most likely wont for a long, long time), theyll most likely leave his history vague. Now that I think about it, I wouldnt be surprised if they just had him be descended from a Holocaust victim and portray Magneto himself as an inheritor of his fathers (or grandfathers) hatred.
How about older brother Hemsworth Luke as either Cyclops - or Reed?

Xavier's powers make it an easy secret to keep.Agreed.

It doesn't matter if it's simpler. It's the character. Keep it or don't use the character. This whole idea of stripping Magneto of his holocaust origin just makes no sense. This isn't some vague war backstory that could be re-issued for any era. It's the holocaust. The age explanation is simple. Someone posted an idea about it having something to do with the magnetism aspect of his powers. My personal idea is making Magneto one of the many people experimented on with various versions of the super-soldier serum, like Bucky, except it was a failure and only altered his body chemistry to slow his aging rate. It adds a layer to the universe and you could even have a flashback of Captain America rescuing a child Magneto.Which is simpler? The audience isn't stupid. It'd be easy to understand for them that Magneto has altered body chemistry or his magnetism powers make him age slower than any other normal mutant. The fact is that some of us have been immersed in comic book storytelling so long, that we consider ham fisted retcons and random genre mashing to be simple, when they certainly are not, we're just so used to them, it's second nature to us, and we associate it with characters that are only that way out of a necessity that the films don't have, and can be so for an audience that the franchise has yet to build.
And you're ignoring that who the terrorists are have no bearing on him building the suit. It doesn't change anything about him. Not the same for Magneto.way to stubbornly avoid the point lol

Been thinking about the first MCU X-Men film and how it can be diverse and different then what we've gotten before. The last 3 X-Men films in particular have been uncomfortably focused on white males...
Xavier's School/X-Men
Charles Xavier (Doesn't have to be white, but SHOULD be American)
Instructors (I like the Evolution approach):
Storm, Beast, Logan, maybe Forge...
Students:
Scott, Jean, Jubilee, Iceman, Nightcrawler
^trying to keep the characters interesting and the interactions dynamic. Nightcrawler adds a fun visual, and cultural diversity, Jubilee is a bit of a checked box, but her personality would add a lot of fun. Iceman should be gay and maybe even Latino/black.
Scott and Jean can be a little mayonnaise-y tho. Hahaha...
Haven't thought about the villains, but knowing Feige it would be something we haven't gotten before. So, no Magneto (yet) probably no brotherhood, and no politics/human villains.
I'd say magneto and Xavier have a mutation slowing their age. Or we're affected by something together resulting in their longer life. Or maybe theoretically as mutants are the next evolution of man they All have longer lives. Maybe average life expectancy is around 120 if they they survive that long or 150 if they're really healthy.
Blink: (Alia Shawkat) --- Impulsive, sarcastic, Scott's biggest headache
I don't know that they'll want to do Blink any time soon with her on The Gifted, but if and when they do I suspect she'll stay (East/Southeast) Asian.
1. Marvel's under pressure to have diversity, but racebending can draw criticism as well. Blink comes pre-racebent, like Nick Fury.
2. Fairly or not, if they make her Caucasian, they'll be criticized for whitewashing.
3. She wasn't a big comic book character before Days of Future Past, and Guardians of the Galaxy showed they're willing to take liberties with lesser known characters and that fans by and large won't care.
If Marvel does her right this time, though, she'll have pink skin, so I don't know how big of a deal it would be. I don't expect there will be much of a backlash if they make Johnny Storm white again. It's about casting people who fit the part. And (I haven't seen much of The Gifted, but does she even act like Blink on that show? Fox is kind of notorious for ignoring character's personalities.)
