MCU X-Men

It very much depends on the character. Gambit is a very particular kind of country, as is Rogue. Warren is supposed to be old money in New England, which means White. Scott and Jean are supposed to be kinda plain, and so being White serves that. Characters like Bobby and Hank... they don't really need to be White, they just have to have backgrounds that don't make their names seem odd. Once we get down to characters like Dazzler the door is wide open, and, funny enough, once we get down to characters like Boom Boom, there is enough diversity at that level of the X-Men that you can use the existing diversity without creating really wonky X-Men rosters.

Bobby's Jewish.

Hank is the character who I'm most comfortable with changing. I'd keep the casting open for whoever wants to play him since Hank's race has never been important to who he is + he's covered in makeup and prosthetics anyway.

Is there an irony apparent to anyone else using Psylocke as an argument against race bending?

Sounds like too many characters for a first film. Also I don't think you can introduce Bishop and time travel too early on.

I was on the fence with Kitty and Peter. Put the two of them back and just go Scott, Jean, Betsy, Ororo, Logan, Lucas, Marie and Remy. 8 characters is still kind of pushing it but Bishop would be the new guy who would serve as an audience surrogate with Storm being the character showing him the ropes to get X-Men viewers acclimated to the MCU's changes. That's the easiest way to ground the story. Yes, time travel is grounded in this case since the X-Men are in a new universe. It's a plot device to explain the world.

Scott/Jean and Marie/Remy would both be couples so their scenes would often be together. Betsy would mostly be grieving Warren getting left for dead in the first five minutes and her character arc would be getting over it. Wolverine would be a loner who randomly appears and disappears when it's convenient to the plot.

Post-credits would feature Archangel on an operating table with a shadowy figure approaching him.

IMO, the roster for the first MCU film needs to be

Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Psylocke, Jean Grey, Bishop, Rogue, Gambit, Shadowcat and Colossus with Beast, Forge and Xavier back at the X-Mansion in supporting roles. Archangel would get injured early on and reappear in X-Force. That's a perfect roster right there.

That's a neat roster though quite big for a first film. Angel though should also be utilized in X-Men. And when I hear X-Factor, I remember Multiple Man and Strong Guy. So Angel shouldn't be demoted to a splinter team.

I get what you're saying but... she's a popular character + Asian and it would be odd to not use her. I'm fully in favor of just calling her Captain Britain's half-sister and not getting into the Kwannon stuff since that plotline never made sense and the more it was explained the less sense it made.

Psylocke should finally be a star of a X-Men film! She's so fierce and xtraordinary!

As am I. How does that meet the audience where they are and address audience questions?

I hear you, but if the MCU X-Men from start is Scott, Jean, Storm, Wind Dancer, Omega Sentinel and Mondo, people will have an issue that these minor characters are given focus on Colossus, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Beast and a host of others. Even fans of those characters may take issue with Wind Dancer being Scotts age and ending up teaching Wither and Prodigy instead of being involved with them as a peer. Most of the diversity in the X-Men is totally irrelevant to the first few films, as those characters are too obscure and there are too many key X-Men to do 'justice' to.

Ah, so these are changes which serve the story by dropping unavailable characters or comic book continuity that is exclusive to 616. Cool, but not really applicable to changing Scott's role in the X-Men lore, or Gambit's basic background that works in any continuity. The MCU changes this for specific reasons that don't apply to the X-Men whose Whiteness complements their background.
Not really sure how changing Bucky or Hawkeye's backstories has anything to do with that.

Or you can say she's adopted like Fant4stic Sue :p

Technically half-Jewish, but there's another quotient he fills.

I did mention him. I just feel that a dark, brooding character who's best known for decapitating people should be moved to the R-rated spin-off.

If they do recast would anyone think they may use Lupita Nyong’o for Storm? She hasn’t actually featured too much in the Black Panther trailers so taking her for the role of Storm wouldn’t be too far out there?

I love Sunfire, Sunpyre, & Armor. Psylocke not the only Japanese X-MAN they can use imo

Psylocke is an A-list character with a massive fanbase, legions of cosplayers and numerous video game appearances. She's frequently associated with any and all X-Men marketing like calenders, action figures, etc. If Marvel continue Fox's universe, she's already cast by Olivia Munn who's an extremely popular actress. If Marvel reboot, she'll likely appear as well. I'd be shocked if Psylocke isn't in the first Marvel Studios' X-Men film.

Armor is better off in New Mutants and Sunfire is C-list. Sunpyre is even more minor.

Y'all actually see Nyong'o as Storm?

I mean looks-wise, she definitely works and then some, but I haven't seen her come across as commanding. Maybe I'm wrong!

The film that sealed the deal for me as Lupita for Storm is surprising... The Jungle Book.

I think she has an underlying power in her tone that is quite similar to Storm

Ahh, I forgot that she had voice work in that. Interesting!

Lupita is a major character in Black Panther. She won't be Storm.

The MCU needs far more black women, consolidating two black women into one character played by Nyong’o would be bad.

So many X-Men and so little time.... It's hard, because there's the team and then there's the students. Part of me thinks they should focus more on the students this time around, and have the "Big Guns" in teaching roles. They have to find a way to make their X-Men stand out from what they've done before. The ones I'd definitely use for adults, though:

Professor Charles Xavier: Denzel Washington

Scott Summers: Chris Pine

Jean Grey: Blake Lively

Dr. Hank McCoy: Leslie Odom Jr.

Zac Efron would be PERFECT as Iceman

I'm usually not on board with straying (too far) from the source when it comes to things like race and sex, but there is the occasional one I dig and think it's beneficial. I can definitely get on board with Denzil as Professor X. Brilliant, imo.

I also like the irony of someone with stunning eyes stuck behind those ruby glasses :P

Your casting rocks!

But I gotta ask, why does Lively keep coming up in fan casts?
