i agree, they are to blame and something needs to change (and under kf's leadership, i think it will).

its just sad that people feel like they can attack the actress and be so hateful towards her..

Biggest Question for me: How do they handle Magneto's origin when (if) he shows up? Pull a Captain America and have him frozen for almost a century? Change him to a survivor of Rwanda or North Korea? Change nothing and just go with suspension of disbelief? Days of Future past actually went with the last one for the scenes in the present, and it worked out fine.

I don't think he should be a survivor of Rwanda or North Korea. That doesn't have the same feel as being a Holocaust survivor at all. And I don't think they can suspend disbelief that much.

I think he needs to have aged slower. How does time pass in the Savage Land?

If he still was a Holocaust survivor, then maybe he ended up in the Savage Land for a period of time where time passes at a different rate there. When he exited, he was still younger.

I definitely think Mag's backstory needs to stay the same. So, some kind of freezing/age tampering should be the explanation. Of course, the problem is the friendship with Prof. X, which messes with his age as well. Hmmm...

(Of course, I think they should hold off on Magneto for awhile anyway once the X-Men show up in the MCU because he's been overexposed in the Fox XVerse.)

I think the Starjammers and the Shi'ar need to be introduced in a GOTG movie first so that they seem like they don't just pop out of nowhere when the X-Men eventually encounter them. They don't need to be big roles but can just cameo in Guardians just so we know they are there.

Magneto's background have already been covered very well in previous movies, so I don't think to explore it again. I'd rather they focus on where his character is going than his past, focus on his charisma and impact on the story and world. Just leave it vague.

Honestly, I think that him surviving a lesser known genocide would be a more compelling change to his backstory than some convoluted anti-aging process. Think about it, if Magneto lost everything in a conflict the world didn't care about, that feeds into his story so well! I'd personally pick the Cambodian or Kurdish genocide to update his background with.

One really unfortunate aspect of this, is that I think this deal comes too late to get Jackman and Downey to agree to one more appearance to get those two on screen together. Those two guys have embodies their characters, it just won't mean as much having two other actors appear together in those roles.

^That's an interesting concern. I personally am not particularly interested in having Wolverine and Iron Man specifically meet up, regardless of the actors involved. I'm thinking about Wolverine and Hulk, or Iron Man and Xavier, or Cap and Cyclops in terms of pairings I'd like to see for scenes.

No, my friend, responding to vicious attacks on your character based only on your skin color with poise and knowledge (history teaches us that the idea of dividing up Black people based on "how Black" they are comes from slave control), that is what is usually called classy, taking the high road. Pointing and laughing at this, while asking if it is more PC to call someone a biracial fool or a mixed fool is what makes one look foolish, and if one also feels that her being biracial is not White enough for her to play Jean Grey, then it's difficult to comment on with class beyond sharing gifs of disgust.

For the record, Storm is almost always drawn Beyonce-style instead of Lupita-style. If there is any shade or being "Fed up" to be had about shading, it should be with the colorists of the X-Men comics, not with the actress who did a great job with a small part and became a bright spot in a dull film.

You said she made herself look foolish by saying colorism was racism, are you withdrawing that statement? I pointed out how colorism = racism is a true thing, and your response was that colorism is a true thing, which is a statement that supports my assertion that she was not making a fool of herself, but quite the opposite.

There's nothing wrong with proactively casting a dark skinned person for Storm for the precise same reason that there's nothing wrong with proactively casting a Hispanic person as Beast. But there is something wrong with attacking someone based on their skin color, even if they speak first, even if they're the only one speaking, even if the twitterverse doesn't a movie they were in. In those cases, the colorists (twofer!) are who we hold up as worthy of ridicule, not the informative classy slandered Black girl.

EDIT: And for the record to get back on topic, THIS is the dichotomy of the X-Men. We say diversity with one hand, but then we say "we only want these very specific kind of people, in these amounts to match what was considered highly diverse in 1975" with the other. So we have people on twitter attacking Black people in the name of Black identity. It's absolutely insane. In a story about accepting those different from us, if you bring the diversity "up to date" then you have people who feel their characters are being taken away and that the ethnic diversity should remain on the periphery. And this is before we get into the whole Magneto issue where the only genocide that "feels right" is the one where the West are the heroes. It's just such a crazy property for this time that we live in. It will be interesting to see how Marvel handles it.
