You said she made herself look foolish by saying colorism was racism, are you withdrawing that statement? I pointed out how colorism = racism is a true thing, and your response was that colorism is a true thing, which is a statement that supports my assertion that she was not making a fool of herself, but quite the opposite.

There's nothing wrong with proactively casting a dark skinned person for Storm for the precise same reason that there's nothing wrong with proactively casting a Hispanic person as Beast. But there is something wrong with attacking someone based on their skin color, even if they speak first, even if they're the only one speaking, even if the twitterverse doesn't a movie they were in. In those cases, the colorists (twofer!) are who we hold up as worthy of ridicule, not the informative classy slandered Black girl.
¡Oh, mis estrellas y ligas! :bst:

EDIT: And for the record to get back on topic, THIS is the dichotomy of the X-Men. We say diversity with one hand, but then we say "we only want these very specific kind of people, in these amounts to match what was considered highly diverse in 1975" with the other. So we have people on twitter attacking Black people in the name of Black identity. It's absolutely insane. In a story about accepting those different from us, if you bring the diversity "up to date" then you have people who feel their characters are being taken away and that the ethnic diversity should remain on the periphery. And this is before we get into the whole Magneto issue where the only genocide that "feels right" is the one where the West are the heroes. It's just such a crazy property for this time that we live in. It will be interesting to see how Marvel handles it.

Amen

I think the Starjammers and the Shi'ar need to be introduced in a GOTG movie first so that they seem like they don't just pop out of nowhere when the X-Men eventually encounter them. They don't need to be big roles but can just cameo in Guardians just so we know they are there.

I'd prefer that too.

Here is what I said

She's mixed or biracial whatever politically correct term is.

Here is what you said I said

while asking if it is more PC to call someone a biracial fool or a mixed fool

Some people don't like being called mixed in today's time so it's PC i guess to say Bi-Racial. Stop getting triggered

But what you say I said makes me look racist.

You said she made herself look foolish by saying colorism was racism, are you withdrawing that statement?

Colorism IS NOT the same as Racism

colorism - prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically

racism - prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

This is ridiculous, and I honestly don't want to debate you anymore after this exchange.

This gets right to the heart of things. Great post. The X-men anticipated many cultural and social trends but are now behind in many ways. It's only a matter of time that the X-men get called out in a big way for telling stories about minorities and discrimination with mostly white people. After Homecoming, I bet Disney might actually handle this well.

I don't want the X-Men in the MCU, unless the MCU reboots. Mutants would just feel very out of place in that world, at this point. Keep the X-Men as its own franchise.

I agree, but I can't see Disney passing on integration and risking brand confusion.

On a lighter note, should Jean have an energy signature like Wanda's, only pink?

Why would Marvel keep the X-Men as its own franchise? They gain nothing following in FOX's footsteps and keeping X-Men contained in its own bubble. They are going to want to have the crossover opportunities that come with putting them into the MCU.

If they can make it look good on screen then I'd like it.

Yep. This is my dream roster and visual direction for the first film/series:

Agreed.
Yup I'm a sucker for that 90s toon line up

I agree as well, it would make things easier for non readers I think.

To go back on the topic of Magneto's backstory again, it could be established that he has a similar physical structure to Wolverine, who's been around even longer.

Imagine if Elizabeth Debicki had been Lilandra and the golden people had been the Shi'ar in GOTG2. Then the X-Men could encounter that same race.

Although I'm quite happy Debicki was a golden girl.

But she could easily have played Lilandra.

Maybe the GOTG can encounter Gladiator too.

I'd replace Beast with Bishop and Jubilee with Psylocke and that would be the perfect roster for me.

Anything with Gambit in it is the perfect roster for me. :p

Magneto: Navid Negahban or Ken Watanabe

Updating his story is a must, in my opinion. It separates from what came before and avoid any convoluted "delayed aging" excuses. I'd either have him a survivor of the Cambodian genocide (Watanabe) or the political unrest and Kurdish genocide in the Middle East (Negahban).

I've seen some people claim those atrocities wouldn't have the same impact as the Holocaust because they aren't as well known. In my opinion, that ADDS to Magneto's character even more. His story was never about THE HOLOCAUST, it was about him being a victim of the cycle of fear, hate, and violence, that didn't stop when the Nazis fell and continues to this day. I think making him a victim of crimes that most of the world DIDN'T CARE ABOUT and have nearly forgotten speaks volumes into what drives him and his cynical ideology.

That said, I really don't want to see him as a primary antagonist at first. We've seen him in that role in nearly every X-Men film, when they have SO MANY great villains left unused. Like Doom, he should be built up. Once mutants are revealed to the public eye, have him as a rival leader to Xavier with his own movement. And keep the details of his past with Charles a secret to be revealed later on.

^ I really like your ideas.

I think adapting Magneto with his Acolytes, Fabian Cortez, and Asteroid M would be good, and it would keep Magneto in that more ambiguous place rather than a full out antagonist.

Sinister or Shadow King would make good first film villains.

Magneto is in no need of an updated origin wtf.

Holocaust-survivor Magneto would be pushing 90. I don't think ANYONE wants him to be a geriatric, and I really don't like the "some mutants age slower for convenient plot reasons" thing.

Two things they could do.

1. Update the origin to be less dependent on a historic event like the Holocaust, but still have his family killed by racists.

2. Don't mention his origin and keep it ambiguous.

Both of these greatly diminish the character and why people are drawn to him.
