Medal of Honor ditches WWII for Modern reboot

My first first person shooter was Metal Of Honor Frontline. And is still one of my fave. Everything clicked in that game. The action, and the standout score(by the guy who scored the new Star Trek movie). I was really sad to see the games get worse, and I tried Call of Duty but never got into them. Haven't played eiter Modern Combat.

I might check this out.

I hope this game is good, I never played a MOH before but this sounds like a good way to jump in. (I just got into gaming with this generation)

I don't know. I think going back to some of the great entries in the series is the best way to jump in.

Medal of Honor has always played second fiddle to Call of Duty, in my opinion. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Really?

Because I've heard that Medal of Honor used to be the king of the hill, and Call of Duty was always playing catch up until Modern Warfare, which was the one that made them a household name.

Or, so I've heard.

Is this news? I thought we heard about this a while back. I think someone even started a thread on it.

I think the fact that it'll be set in Afghanistan is the big news.

Which do you recommend?

There's only one great Medal of Honor game and that is Allied Assault. It was pretty much the prototype for every other WWII shooter that followed it.

However, post Call of Duty 4, it would feel pretty dated.

That's an opinion, which is fine, but the debate was that it is possible to make a Revolutionary War FPS. I think the time period works well storywise.

You do realize in that time period, war was simply marching in a straight line, shooting once, and going to the back of the line to spend two minutes reloading while other lines fire. Right? Sure, you could change it, but then you lose any sense of accuracy and reality that goes along with it in which case it ceases to be a Revolutionary War shooter and simply becomes Call of Duty where the enemies where red jackets.

There was some guerilla warfare back then, they can work with that, and as I said, accuracy isn't important in a game like this.

Eh...never played MoH, but the latest installment seems like its going to be a Modern Warfare copy, but thats just my guess I havent seen anything yet.

Hopefully they bring something original to the genre, but Im guessing it wont be that big

So they copy Call of Duty after Call of Duty copied them first with WW2 games. Fair trade.

Call of Duty wasn't a copy it was made by the same people.

Didn't the people who started IW used to work on MOH? Then they quit & started IW.

Guns weren't much better by the Wild West period, but people don't seem to mind that their guns don't constantly jam or take a minute or two to individually reload each bullet in those games. I don't think anyone's really looking for a gun sim with these games; if it's fun, people will play it regardless of the period. I'd be up for practically anything other than yet another WWII or space marine/alien or modern war shooter. Those three settings have been done so far beyond death at this point.

I´ve been saying it since 08, Medal of Honor restart was bound to happen.
And i´m happy about it, as for Medal of Honor was the one that started it all, the fascination with "realistic" shooter set in WW2.
EA would return to it, it was a matter of time...

Sure seems like a good start for EA's return to its cash cow mentality: take its own war shooter franchise and follow the CoD model.

That sounds bitter, I know, but I didn't intend it to. It really is a good idea if EA is interested in competing with Activision on more level ground, which they are again.

Eh...I think the best thing you can do when a series grows stagnant is to just put it on the shelf for a good five years or so. Make people miss it. Make people want it.

I know that would be tough because biting the style of a more popular series means you at least have a shot at success while shelving it will guarantee none. But I honestly think that's the best course of action for a lot of these franchises that have been running nonstop for a decade or more.

Which in turn followed the Medal of Honor model.....
As you might know, and what already addressed in this same thread, MoH was the original, not Call of Duty.
Even Infinite Ward came out from the Medal of Honor frachise.

I meant specifically going to a modern war setting. Regardless of who came first, it's pretty clear that Modern Warfare is the breakout success that EA is trying to duplicate.

Im all for it. I HATE WWII games and ignored the MoH series bc of it. I didnt look at CoD till they did modern stuff and may check MoH now since they are rebooting things

I hate modern shooters. Every gun feels the same and shooting with the laser sight is far, far too easy.

Yeah, WWII has been done to death but the weapons are different from one another and the iron sights make it more challenging. The real issue is that every game has a need to include a D-Day mission. I think WaW is underrated because it came out between two of the most overrated games ever made. If more WWII games focused on different fronts besides Western Europe (ie D-Day and anything after), they wouldn't have the reputation of being overdone.

This move by EA to modernize MoH is obviously to cash in on the MW2 hype.

Modern warfare first-person shooters have a new contender in Medal of Honor, EA's current day reboot of the former World War II shooter series. The game's second trailer puts less emphasis on explosive action than it does tugging at heartstrings.

Oh, there's an explosion or two near the end, so don't think that this new Medal of Honor teaser is a complete waste of time. If Electronic Arts and developers EA LA and DICE are going for a more emotionally engaging angle in addition to making **** blow up in Afghanistan, consider us interested.
EA revealed today it will release Medal of Honor on October 12th in North America and October 15th in Europe.

I really hope the campaign is emotional like that trailer.
