Men and Male Nudity (NO ACTUAL NUDITY IN THIS THREAD)

I only seen female frontals in 3 hollywood movies in couple years, two of those movies had male frontals.

On the other hand I can prob name 10 or 15 movies in the same amount of time that I saw that had male frontals.

Personally I miss bush in movies.
Jennifer Connally in Requiem for a Dream.

I honestly think the big reactions to seeing so many penises is one of two things in just about all cases:

1.- Immaturity.

2.- The fear that no reaction like an idiot will make others think you're gay.

It's kind of annoying, really. Every man here has [most likely] seen his own penis, so why is it so bothersome to see someone else's?

Like I said, penises are ugly. Just because we're used to looking at our own penises doesn't mean we're prepared to see someone else's, because let's face it, there are as many kinds of penises as there are breeds of dogs.

But is the fact that a penis is ugly in you opinion reason to freak out like a child?

The fact is that Hollywood is alot more comfortable with showing male's genital than female's. There are many movies that display male penis, but when it comes to female they only show bush at the extreme, and we all know that bush is, in fact, not a genital.

I think it is a societal influence. I mean as a child, I know seeing figure skaters butts was something I would giggle at because the skirt flew up while a gymnast shows the same amount but I didn't notice.

It's all in the hidden aspect of it. You expose enough male genitals in more movies and people will become numb to it.

Plus the penis is ugly as crap. And I don't even know why got uncomfortable during Watchmen. The blue glow didn't even allow you to see it very clearly.

I was in a theater of about 15 when I went to see Watchmen and every time the Wangus made an appearance I could hear someone chuckling

Its strange. On my first viewing there was alot of laughter with a packed theater. The 2nd and 3rd time there were fewer people with no laughing or chuckling. Nobody even flinched. Perhaps they were afraid to since it was a small croud.

Whom are you speaking for exactly?

Anyway, if you were to witness your very first violent scene, at your age, not when you were a kid because you know nothing, what would your reaction be to it?

Would that be different from seeing penises or fornication, particularly when the latter served a subtextual purpose in Watchmen and also in general?

I'm merely stating my thesis for why so many people of both sexes seem to have negative reactions whenever they see a penis in a movie. They're ugly, and they're a part of the body that's typically kept private, so a lot of people have the same reaction to seeing it in a movie as they would to watching someone take a dump (with Watchmen, at least).

But are you saying the ugliness factor is the ONLY reason for this? Or even not a reason while other reasons are included?

And if they think it's ugly, does it mean they think the same of their own penis? Is it projection?

*adds to Netflix list* :D

I saw that Seymore Hoffman dude's ass in some indie film. I had to wash my eyes out. It was scary. :(

movie was "Before The Devil Knows Your Dead" great film.

I don't get freaked out when I see a penis. But I don't make a effort to look at it :hehe:

In a sexual sense, I don't have a problem with male nudity. It doesn't bother me in the least. I only don't like it because I think that any other part of anatomy is nicer to look at, especially breasts. I try and say that as objectively as possible, too. I think both the male and female forms are beautiful, but I'd have to say a penis is just ugly to look at. I know my girlfriend feels the same way when she sees it in a movie, as do a lot of other girls I know.

Male nudity doesn't really bother me, I mean, us guys see that everyday so it's not really a big deal and not really anything to snicker/laugh/giggle over.

It's not just men. Even though women like what the penis can do (when used correctly), most would say that even the most textbook-perfect ones are unattractive. A lot of men are under the dillusion that women react to penises the same way men react to breasts, but that's a total farce. Breasts are part of the female form, whereas the penis is an organ that happens to hang from our crotches. Big difference!

There are probably more reasons for why male nudity gets such negative reactions from both sexes in the movie house, but that's the best one I can think of.

We should have less male nudity on film, and more female nudity.

99% of the nudity I've seen in movies is female nudity.

^ This.

There is definitely more female nudity in movies than male. However, in terms of actually showing the genital region males are far more common. For some reason showing a woman's labia is usually considered going too far, while showing a man's penis is usually perfectly reasonable for an R-rating. Ratings confuse me.

More male nudity to even things out...
Just to mess with you kids who get grossed out and are like... "Ewww... cooties!!"
Show some maturity....

I'm not grossed out by a penis, I just prefer looking at breasts and vaginas.
