Welcome to the first edition of Metal Spidey's rants, where I, Metal Spidey, rant about things that bug the heck out of me. You don't have to agree or disagree with me, you don't even have to post a response. Just sit back and enjoy the ranting. I just have a few things to rant about this time, involving DVD piracy and the excuses that pirates give to justify their illegal activities. The words in bold are the excuses and my response is in plain text.

I have to sit through the advertisments.
True but I've had DVDs where I can skip all of them. Even if I couldn't, it's just a few, it won't hurt. You sit through commercials on TV with no complaints.

I have to see that stupid advert about how I wouldn't steal a car, purse, etc.
That thing is hardly 1 minute long, how can it be such a burden? I can see if it had siesure enducing lights and sounds but it's here and gone in a second.

How can it hurt sales? I'm buying the movie legitimatly before I copy it.
Yes, YOU'RE buying it legally but your friends aren't. They're paying YOU for a bootleg copy. Are you giving that money to actors, producers, directors, etc.? Nah, I didn't think so. If ONE legitamate sale could justify bootlegging, then ONE website could provide everyone with free movies because they bought it ONCE. Now do you see how dumb it sounds to say that your one little sale justifies selling mass bootleg copies?

And so ends my rant.

I'll continue to burn a copy of a DVD I bought for a friend, rather than let them borrow the original and never see it again.

Who are you? :P

Some friend. Perhaps he should just buy his own movies. He can't depend on you when you get busted by the feds.

Who are you? :P

I'm just a regular member. I put the rants thing in the title to give it some pizzaz.

Are bootlegs really as much of a problem as the studios want people to believe? My thoughts are no.

"I ain't payin' full price for this movie!" How's that for an excuse?

disclaimer: maybe I don't download anything at all. Or do I?

those excuses are truly ********. You can skip those on any DVD or just leave the room and take a leak. I do download, but not for those reasons.

a.) I can't watch TV because of class, so I download to catch up. the hell with those websites that stream the episodes because they're the same annoying commercial all through the episode and those are the ones you can't skip.

b.) I don't have the money to see every single award nominee I want to see. I'll go out and see one or two, but I unfortunately don't have the money to sit in a theater with a bunch of *******s for two hours. It's a waste of money.

c.) I'm not paying for Max Payne. it's as simple as that.

Damn straight. Though I don't know why you would waste an hour and a half of your life watching it much less your CPU usage and bandwidth downloading it :P

If I'm unsure about a movie, I'll download it or borrow it first, and then if I like it, I'll buy it so then they get well deserved money. But if the movie was crap, I won't buy it. (Example: I downloaded SM3 first, I didn't like it but I still bought it because it still kept me entertained so it was fair.

As long as I live I will never let my friends/family members borrow my CDs or DVDs. I paid full price for them, NOT them! If I let them borrow them, they will be watching without paying! God forbid they burn a copy of the CD/DVD, they're guilty of piracy!

"I find your lack of [thesaurus] disturbing"

1. some movies are only in a limited theatre release that most people wont get to see until it comes out on dvd

2. a movie with bad reviews, but catches your interest and dont want to risk buying a ticket

3. boycotting FOX

From most of this post you define piracy as selling the copied dvd on to other people.

Where as i buy/rent to give away free to my friends :)

The feds cant bust you unless you make money from the bootleg.

I don't make excuses. I know its stealing but digital theft doesnt bud me. Who here hasnt downloaded a song? Hell, even Robin watched cloverfield online.

There are some bands that I got into through downloading. If I see their albums in the store, I do purchase them. If their albums are out of print or the store is unable to order the CD, then I stick with the mp3s

Because there's no pressure to take 4 hours out of my life to go to the theater early, watch the craptastic movie, and drive home.

I can download it while I sleep then watch it sometime during the day at my leisure or while I do work, clean, etc.
