Miami Vice

I can see where you're coming from. I myself never watched the show, and am definitely glad they did nothing to tie the movie in with it (80s clothes, music, etc.) It's just different taste, I guess.

I bought it but haven't opened it yet, and can't for a day or so. I didn't see a teaser and/or trailer included as a bonus feature. Can anyone confirm this? If so, that's very disappointing. I loved the teaser.

Looking around and don't see the trailers anywhere. That's a shame, but at least you can get them in HD Quicktime.

Oh man, "In the Air Tonight" is now played throughout the buildup to the shootout. Very cool.

Unfortunately, that also means it's nowehere in the credits.

Whoa! I thought that would happen in the movie and was slightly disappointed when it didn't. Now this sounds good!

Yes, a lot of the music was changed around. I've only watched parts of the DC, and there are a few differences. The commentary by Mann is interesting. On one hand, he talks alot about the making of the film and even analyses how the cops overtake the druglords in the final shoot out, but at times he basically summarizes the plot for those that were too ignorant to follow it.

I'm still disappointed in the opening credits/boat race. I thought the use of no credits and placing you right in the middle of a stakeout was cooler and more exciting than the standard opening its been given. The first shots you see of Crockett and Tubbs should be standing in the shadows, not with helmets and sunglasses on driving around in boats.

That's my only gripe, and it's a fairly big one. Otherwise, the DC is the way to go.

I didn't want a "modern" version of the Show. Part of the charm of the show was it oozed the 80's...You can make it a period movie and still not make it a parody. And I don't care if the music and theme of the show was "dated"...it's still classic and I love that stuff.

I dunno......I think there is a certain comedy that we as a culture take with the 80's.

But, I do understand you. It's tough not to. I mean, before this.....Miami Vice was ONLY 80's based. I kinda appreciate a modern take, b/c it extends Vice into something more than an 80's phenomenon.

I think there's a slight misconception there, though. There's things, more than just character names, that tie it into the series. They're rather subtle, of course.....namely that the film used an episode from the first season as a blue print.

Whoa! I thought that would happen in the movie and was slightly disappointed when it didn't. Now this sounds good!

Yeah.....sounds like an homage to the series premeire when Sonny and Rico are heading to the shootout....

Interesting......I mean, they're both different it sounds. I know it took me a second to understand and get with the speed that it began with in the theater. Of course....the boat thing might seem more "Miami Vice" like to more people too.

OK, did anyone in here get their hands on the HD-DVD? Mine just shipped and I think it will be here by Saturday at most.

what was this movie about anyways?

the film is about a crap attempt to cash in on the miami vice name by using the same names as the characters from the show, but not using them properly

the fact that most of you failed to get the point of what the original miami vice was about shows most people's lack of knowledge

miami vice was specially created to cater for the MTV audience,

it was first named "MTV Cops", the aim to have a show that relied more on mood, and music and action above anything else.

the fact that the movie failed on all aspects is an insult to fans and to the general audience.

the movie had poor dialogue, a script which basically ripped off the episode "smugglers blues" from the original show, in fact Mann makes farrell and foxx actually reuse word for word several lines from the show.

the movie was boring, dull, visually flat. And the whole attempt to do the "lets do the cool HD filming" failed miserably.

It worked on Collateral because it was used sparringly.

Here, it was used by Mann stupidly and ridiculously.

He might as well have done the sex scenes for foxx and farrell in HD too just for a laugh.

The plot is a poor mans version of the original miami vice episode smugglers blues, and most fans found this a poor attempt at using the miami vice name.

Yes, if you want realism, fine. But the whole movie just stank. It went overboard on budget due to ego's of the director and its stars.

The movie bombed domestically and it sucks hard.

and to top it off, klaus badelt's pathetic attempt at including 3 chords of crocketts theme into his ****ty instrumental takes the piss and is an insult to most people.

if we watch miami vice, we expect good script, good action, good visuals and good music.

Miami vice the movie fails on all of them

its **** basically

save yourself the money and just download it off a torrent if you are really that desperate for it.

I saw this movie on opening weekend at 11pm screening, there was only 5 people, and i was bored to death.

shows you crap the movie is.

the fact that people think Jan hammer is "dated" probably shows their lack of musical taste and is an insult to a clasically trained musician with more talent than the crappy team that did the movie score.

listening to crap like jay z and moby

lol

talk about dated,

the jay z numb encore track was dated by 3 years and stunk badly

a proper musician and composer like jan hammer who has worked with van halen and jeff beck amongst others is not used,

instead we get crap from john murphy, whose classics include the world renowned "basic instinct 2" lol

and klaus badelt, supposed synthesizer guru who isn't fit to lace the shoe of proper masters like Harold faltermeyer or jan hammer

this movie already sounds dated, the "hip" music of now is already dated and next year the movie's score will sound even more pathetic than it already is,

lol

lets see Michael Mann get his sequel for miami vice off the ground now,

150 million budget + another 50 for marketing and other stuff

a pathetic domestic box office,

the public spoke, the movie was crap.

the fact that the key scenes of the movie consist of naomie harris getting her ass out and gong li throwing her legs up in sex scenes that were like a failed orgasm

maybe michael mann had a condom put on the camera

there wasn't any chemistry there

and what was the purpose of these pathetic sex scenes?

are they meant to be "serious" and "realistic"

bollox, ive seen more realism in a tom and jerry cartoon ,

what was this movie about anyways?

Basically, what happens is that one of the hook ups Crockett and Tubbs have is in trouble, in the beginning. Turns out that Crockett and Tubbs had passed him on to the Feds to do work for them, and now they got a leak that got people killed.

So, they recruit Sonny and Rico (and they're Vice team....) to try and infiltrate the drug cartel by acting as the movers, and try and bring them down.

I don't think there's a cooler moment than when Crockett and Tubbs touch fists during the drums of "In the Air Tonight". So glad I went with the DC.

you are having a laugh right?!

its so corny its beyond belief,

not to mention Nonpoints version of In the Air Tonight is crap,

if they wanted to use an updated version, they should have used 2pac's Starin' in My Rearview Remix, a much better and original sounding piece than Nonpoint's crappy rock rendition.

only a minority like miami vice, it bombed domestically, and the movie is a critical and commercial failure

seems like collateral is going to forever be michael mann's only movie to gross more than 100 million at the US box office. Every single other one has failed below that.

and Miami vice with a budget of 150 million and another 50 or so on marketing plus god knows what else, the movie is a financial disaster,

Universal might not even make a profit even with dvd sales,

guess thats good bye to the sequel then, nice try mann,

still having trouble thinking of why this crap movie cost 150 million,

wasnt exactly SFX laden was it? looked like a cheap homemade camcorder movie at times,

talk about wasting money on a vanity project, michael mann truly lost his marbles with this film

With 2 lead actors who are hardly box office leaders, Jamie foxx has not had a hit movie before and neither has Colin Farrell.

Wrong choices for the movie.

Michael Mann really failed this time, a disgrace to movie making
he should be ashamed of himself

A lot of it went towards filming on location.

I'll happily agree about the non point version, absolutely terrible and that maybe Michael Mann shouldn't have used the Miami Vice name nor the characters names although I thought the bloke who played Castillo did a pretty stand up job. But overall I thought it was a damn good movie bar a few of the sex scenes, obviously it didn't cater for the Miami Vice purist but then again most of the advertising did show this and the lack of the Sonny Crockett iconic white suit being the main one for me.

In all honesty though Michael Mann put himself in a pretty crappy position, if he'd just had any set of actors doing a Don Johnson and PMT impression it would've got slated, he went with a new direction and it got slated.

I hope to finally watch this on DVD tonight. Saw it in the theater and have been waiting for a good time to see it again. Can't wait.

A scene where Sonny wears the famous white suit was filmed.
