Fant4stic Michael B Jordan is "Flame On!" The Human Torch - Part 2

Ok...ok....let's not go overboard here. Good lord...lol

It's a real thing. Not having heroes to relate to other then sidekicks has a impact on children.

Djimon Hounsou: I wanna begin saying a story about my son. I have a four-year old son who loves superheroes from Spider-Man to Iron Man to Batman. He’s got all the costumes. One day he looks at me and says ‘Dad, I want to be light-skinned so I could be Spider-Man. Spider-Man has light skin.’ That was sort of a shock. This is why I am excited to be a part of the Marvel Universe, so I could be hopefully provide that diversity in the role of the superhero.

My guess is that Trank wanted to go with mocap Thing and then layer CGI on Human Torch instead of making Johnny mocapped and Thing in a suit and both couldn't be done due to the budget and needing to render an entirely CGI Negative Zone within said budget.

Which is why Johnny looks like a stunt guy in an asbestos suit, and his "costume" has been designed so that it has vents to give off the impression that he's trying to contain it instead of the real reason that there isn't the budget for a fully-flamed, plasma-bodied Torch.

That's what I just said.

I mean, there are different versions of the Human Torch.

I always liked the ones where the FF costume remained visually intact.

Plus not making Torch all flamed over like Story's version means you can still see the actor's face and emotions without CGI.

That was part of the reason. But I'm pretty certain that mocap thing and the entire Negative Zone also factored in as well as the sets built for the Baxter building. All of that stuff is expensive and no film that isn't a sequel will get a budget over $150M US.

All the young black kids with an actual hero to dress up as instead of Nick Fury will be so great to see this Halloween. I know MBJ will be so proud.

Hey now. There were PLENTY of Falcon and Electro costumes on the shelves last Halloween.

Yes, it can....and the most powerful way of doing that is CREATING THEM. Why settle for a hand me down? They should not have to....

The flames looking cheap is ridiculous. Nearly all CGI flames are built into the most widespread 3d programs because they are so prevalent. There is some tweaking involved by the artist but the differences are miniscule. The differences you are seeing are from the lighting and environment.

No the complaint is that it's a composite layer on top of the actor. It's cheap. They needed a 100% CGI torch, they went the cheap route.

An object that heats up to the levels of a star, should not look like it's at room temperature.

There have been versions of the torch where the costume and face were visible, but he's always looked like he's heated up from the core.

But none of that changes the fact that this is a cheap effect.

Is Johnny even going to fly in this film? The aerial dogfights were one of the few things I loved from the Story films and helped sell how exciting Torch and the FF are. The teaser of RotSS were Torch chases the Surfer all over New York and into space was so cool it almost fooled me into giving the series a second chance.

There's a leaked set pic a stuntman rigged up (wearing lights), and flying towards Doom..... so he'll fly at least once.

Probably once.

Those disabilities, too painful to use for too long.

Good thing they have those containment suits to keep their disabilities in check.

Oh where would they be without those containment suits; they're like the cure for N-Zone caused disabilities.

That's easy to say when most of these characters have had a 40-70 year head start.

Look at the most popular superheros right now, almost all of them have established decades of prior popularity.

It's not easy to go and expect a brand new created superhero to be able to compete on equal footing. Hey here's presenting Falcon-Man! forget about Batman kids.

Or, you know, give existing characters their time to shine by showing people they're awesome and writing them well

You know, like Marvel Studios is doing. Falcon was a huge hit in Winter Soldier. Luke Cage is coming. Black Panther is coming.

And let's get something straight here. Making Johnny Storm black was only progressive incidentally. If it was ACTUALLY progressive, they would have made the ENTIRE Storm family black.

As it stands, the female lead that ends up with the male lead is still white. Because that's safe, that's Hollywood safe.

Trank cast his friend, and then contorted the source material to match that. Working together previously and not having to test for it is proof enough of that.

It's nepotism. Plain and simple. And then I'm sure Jordan got his prior coworker Teller cast, or at the VERY least seriously considered.

You deserve a cookie for all your correctness.

Doubt it.

Heating up will probably be too painful at first so he won't be able to fully flame on and fly until they have to to stop Doom. He might levitate when they first start testing themselves or something.

It's very tough for new superheroes to compete white, black or otherwise. Then its hard for some people to identify with a character who doesn't look like them.

For those who are curious and not as old and/or not as big car geeks as me, based on the quick glimpse, I believe this is the car Johnny was working on:

It was a relatively affordable mid-engine Toyota (these days, there's really no such thing as an affordable mid-engine car) that was available from the mid-eighties into the nineties.

I noticed that too.

So, lets not ever do that? That is the problem....

"Oh, it's too hard, oh that can't compete, oh it will take too long"...

Thank goodness the biggest innovators, writers, creators, and revolutionaries didn't have that attitude, we would still be living in caves.

I swear these days if it isn't handed to you on a silver platter people don't want it...fine, keep living in the cave and enjoying hand me downs.
