Michael Bay has made this post on his official message board in response to pleas from the fans about Frank Welker doing the voice of Soundwave in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, considering he won't have the chance to voice Megatron again (Hugo Weaving is reprising that role):

I think I'm going to pursue Frank on Soundwave.

Michael

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, starring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, John Benjamin Hickey, Ramon Rodriguez, Isabel Lucas and John Turturro, hits conventional and IMAX theaters on June 24.

That sound you just heard off in the distance was about 5 million rabid fanboys climaxing in kind.

Cool, I'll be excited if it falls through.

The wait for June 26th forever becomes harder. This will be amazing if it happens.

It's nice of Bay to let Welker do more than grunt and growl in this one.

Seeing as how Soundwave is even more iconic than G1 Megatron... it makes sense.

But we all know this is just a cookie for the fanboys. Thanks Bay.

It's nice to hear Welker will get a spot this time, but really anyone can do Soundwave because it's heavily altered. On the other hand I think just hearing Soundwave will be awesome, he'll probably still sound like his G1 counterpart but I'm expecting more weight. Cullen had more base added to his voice and it rumbles through the sub woofers.

Oh wow. It would be great to hear him say "Ravage, eject" on the big screen

Anyone else: inferior, Welker Soundwave: superior.

You say that only because it's Welker, anyone can do Soundwave's voice. Hell you can download a free program that allows you to manipulate your voice so it sounds just like him.

As someone else said anyone could do his voice really, but nice to know it will be Welker doing it.

Can you point me in the direction of said program?

True, Soundwave's voice is mostly vocoder effects. But to truly sound like him, you need to be able to do a "Dr Claw" voice (from Inspector Gadget), like Welker can. Not terribly hard to do, but still not everybody can do it

You can hear Welker's unmodulated voice acting as Soundwave at the end of this clip:

I listened to Welker's Soundwave, then the TF:Animated Soundwave, and Welker's really is (incoming pun) Superior. Welker's has a rumbling in his monotone that the Animated one didn't have.

I'm hoping that Bay goes through with this. Welker deserves a role in the film franchise, and since he can't be Megatron, let his reprise his other most iconic TF role.

Plus, I don't agree with the notion that anyone can do Soundwave's voice. All of the effects/voice modulation in the world if the underlying voice beneath them is weak. I love his performance as Prowl in Animated, but Jeff Bennets' Soundwave was pretty bad.

In that clip "excellent Ravage" sounds exactly like Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget. Did Welker do that voice as well, the similarity is uncanny,

Bay had better not be pulling a fast one here. If Frank isn't secured, I could see that as grounds for boycotting the movie.
Just kidding, of course. But it would seriously be icing on the cake to have Frank "god among voice actors" Welker back in the Transformers universe. His presence will only add to what appears to be a cool movie.

I'm pretty sure we have nothing to worry about in regards to the voice actors of this film.
