Ant-Man Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

part of me wishes that the MCU had started in the early 90s. it would have been great to see Douglas and Downey attempt the characters; back then. conversely, I think marvel did kind of capture lightning by signing Chris Hemsworth, Evans, and Scarlett at the same time.

God! I am so not up to date with my comic book movie news! Im mad that Hank isn't going to be THE Ant-Man but holy hell! You can not beat Michael Douglas in a Marvel movie. Holy **** this casting is nothing short of amazing.

let's speculate about when we can stop speculating. i think that we'll find out Patrick Wilson's role next wednesday.

One last bit of speculation...

I'd say Patrick Wilson (who's 40) can't play younger than 35. Assuming Douglas-Pym is 70 in the current day, that would require the flashback scenes to occur in the very late-70's. 1979 or so, which would go against what we've been hearing. Doesn't look like a match to me. :(

coincidentally, I think "To Steal an Ant-Man" (the comic book version) hit stands in 1979.

slow news day topic:

so how crazy do you guys want movie Pym to be? i'm not saying that they necessarily have to work any of that stuff from the books into the movie. but Pym being a little off his rocker would provide an easy explanation for why he's so off-the-map as a costumed hero. just imagine if the first (or second) time that we meet him, he's in a straight-jacket. i bet Michael Douglas could be charming; even as a crazy person.

I want him to be normal and not crazy. He could just be a reclusive scientist. I don't want them to explore the crazy side too much, just like Stark isn't an out-of-control alcoholic in the movies.

fair enough. but Stark has an eccentric personality to make him interesting.

Yea, I can see them portraying Pym as reclusive-and-worn-out rather than have a significant mental disorder.

Pym can be a little eccentric as has always been a scientist that wants to explorer the less conventional areas of scientific research but hopefully they don't make him crazy.

I would like him to portrayed as really curious and about weird and strange stuff which is why other people think he is eccentric.

Marvel already did the mental breakdown thing with Selvig in Thor The Dark World.

So will Pym wear the suit first?

we don't know anything official about the movie; other than that Douglas is playing Pym and Rudd is Lang. but Wright had a figurine that looked like Douglas wearing a retro-Ant-Man costume on his twitter. so i think we could expect to see Ant-man in flashbacks. it'd also be illogical for him to create an Ant-Man suit that he, himself, wasn't going to wear (at one point).

So is this like a passing of the helmet type of film from Hank Pym to Scott Lang?

something like that. but i think Douglas' Pym is going to be manipulating things from the "shadows." Wright listed the Earth Mightiest Heroes cartoon episode "To Steal an Ant-Man" as a source. but i think he's just taking elements of that and applying it to his heist movie. there might be, at least, two Ant-men in it. heist's often require a team of thieves.

Edgar said the movie starts with Pym in the sixties as Tales To Astonish Ant-Man then flashes forward to the modern days with Lang becoming Ant-Man and the two of them teaming up (possibly to do a heist which requires Lang's burglary and electronics skills).

Edgar also say it is the origin of one Ant-Man (Lang) and the swansong of another (Pym). So it is Pym passing the torch to Lang in regards to the Ant-Man identity.

it's a shame that we won't see Yellowjacket. Douglas has the perfect voice and personality, for it.

I'm not sure how audiences would respond to Yellowjacket seeing as how I see some people whining about Amazing Spider-Man Peter Parker and Man Of Steel Clark Kent being Jerks as despite them not being.

Douglas Pym might of taken up other superhero identities over the years

i guess i'm imagining him going a little punisher-style vigilante after his wife is killed. and then disappearing for a time; maybe up until the events of the Ant_man movie.

Do you think Pym and Lang will kill people?

The other MCU heroes don't seem to mind killing people.

We know Ant-Man is going to be doing some martial arts style fighting but I wonder if he will use any weapons at any point.

Castillo's certainly going to get it. but i figure Douglas' Pym will kill someone before Rudd's Lang does. even in the comic book, Darren Cross pretty much killed himself.
