Today is the press conference. I wonder if there will be anything extraordinary announced, or if it will be all the standard stuff we already know.

Today's press conference is pretty weak so far. It's predominantly casual games, you can definitely tell they're trying to get some of the Wii's audience.

Mii-60s? WTF.

I'm sure all the hardcore players who watched the early demos will love cartoon avatars. :whatever:

Overall, it was pretty weak. It started off strong with the awesome demos of Fallout, RE, Gears. All the casual stuff was really weak and just brought it down overall. The RPGs at the end were cool and they helped a little, but it was weak overall.

And Sony loses FFXIII. Sigh. At least they've still got MGS4 exclusive to them.

Oh, and where the hell was anything Halo at? No new games, not even Halo Wars? What 's up with that?

I'm a little excited for the Avatars. They look more customizable then the Miis.

The conference definitely wasn't for current 360 owners. They're trying to win over other audiences hence all the casual and JRPG announcements.

Also, I HATE the new Xbox Live they're going with. Screw Mii-60s and the new trendy Web 2.0 hipster crap interface.

Microsoft isn't known for their big wowza conferences.

I wonder what Sony will use to counteract Final Fantasy.

I saw the second half from the gears 2 gameplay (part way through). The new dashboard looks cool and i love the party idea it looks so fun, playing deal or no deal or somthing haha.

Let's not overlook the updated version of Banjo Kazooie being released on XBLA. :woot:

Ah, true. I like how they just added it in at the end of the sentence and made it seem unimportant.

What about Banjo Tooie?

The conference was anything but weak. It might not have featured all of the hardcore games coming to the system like Gears and Fallout but the fact is the face of games is changing. Its going more towards casual entertainment and what MS's conference showed is that they are very capable of competing with the likes of Nintendo for the casual audience. The new Live interface is going to be a huge hit. The ability to be able to screen movies, pictures and other entertainment with friends through Live is going to be really exciting. The avatars i could do without, but they do add another layer of personalization to the system.

I think it was weak because of what you said. Granted, they're trying to emulate Nintendo's success with the casual market, which is completely understandable. But they're completely alienating gamers with this conference. There was about 20 minutes of good stuff to begin with and then everything turned into Wii-60 crap. There were a few good things thrown in every now and then (XBLA titles and RPGS) but they just spent waaay too much time on casual stuff. I hope Sony takes a more hardcore approach tomorrow.

And it was better than last year, I'd say, but I don't think it's going to be the strongest this year again.

Netflix = :up: for me.

I think that is a great partnership, especially since no extra charges are involved.

But the problem is that, hardcore will NOT get you on top this generation. You are gonna have to be much more broad in what you offer to your consumers. Microsoft isn't about to forget about us, games like Gears of War 2 and Fallout 3 are proof of that, but MS has the potential to bring in more ppl to the system and to Live and that is gonna help us all out.

There was way too much of a focus on the casual garbage, but I agree with Project Pat, this conference was a lot better than the one from last year.

I don't know, hardcore gamers know what's coming out. They don't really need a conference to re-tell what they already know. I understand MS's position in using these conferences to announce more mainstream projects.

I don't think it alienates hardcore gamers, these conferences don't really mean anything.

See, thats kinda how i feel. I mean im not into all the casual stuff, i pretty much hate everything on the Wii, but i know a ton of ppl who love that stuff and will love whats coming to the 360.

Like i said, MS isnt about to abandon us hardcore gamers and like Geo said, we know whats coming out for this system and this presser was more about new innovations for the 360 thatll pull more ppl to the system.

Yes, and I think I've acknowledged that. There is a reason Nintendo is on top thus far, and that is because of their success with the casuals. That's something we can all agree upon. I just found that there was too much of a focus on the casual gamer during this conference. Outside of the beginning demos, there was nothing really for the hardcore gamer at all, and that alienated me as a gamer.

Yes, next thing you know there will be separate hardcore and casual water-fountains.
There will be plenty of new info in the coming days to appease your hardcore needs, these conferences are about innovations and expanding the 360 name, not pushing Gears to an audience who already have it pre-ordered.

Yea i can see where ur coming from. I mean i wanted more videos of Gears and Fallout and RE5 but i think what MS showed will benefit the 360 more than showing off a bunch of Gears 2 videos. I think well get plenty of demos and videos of these hardcore games tho.

If they want to copy the Wii they should have something for motion controls not Miis.

Scene It? 2
You're in the Movie (looked horrible)
another Uno game
gameshows where you could win prizes

That would allow games for the hardcore and casual. Instead they're using Live. Which is good, it makes them money but you're not going to win over the casual crowd with Scene It or a virtual charades game.

I didn't think Nintendo would be the company making an announcement on motion controls today, with Wii MotionPlus.

The Netflix deal, NBC Universal deal and Square games are great but they're just playing catchup to the Wii for the casual market and failing at that.
