Apocalypse Mighty as a hurricane, Gentle as the summer rain. Alexandra Shipp is Storm - Part 4

I just noticed that no one mentioned her name, not even once!

Psylocke was mentioned trice, while Apocalypse and the match cage announcer called Angel... Angel. Even Magneto said Magneto but Storm, er!

if they wanted to present a more plausible scenario for Storm joining Apo, they should have shown her using her powers to water crops and help villagers, etc., only for them to shun her and chase her out of town due to her powers and unique looks ( white hair, glowing white eyes ).

so, she tries to help people but they reject and fear her. That's what Apo preys upon and says to her that she should be their goddess who they worship. blah...blah.....

but the movie showed none of that.

Apocalypse did mention "goddess" though.

really??

that's stupid.........:cmad:

It's somewhat ambiguously handled.
And there in lies the problem.

The writers wanted to have it both ways: they didn't want the Horsemen to just be brainwashed because then they're just generic henchmen, but they didn't want to actually develop them as 3D characters either making them at the end... generic henchmen.

Except for Magneto.

Singer likes Fassbender, McAvoy and Lawrence, which is fine.

But if he did watched the whole movie, he should have realized, there was really no shining moment for Storm. And he could have gave her one.

Alexandra was fine given the limited material, but I still find the portrayals of Storm offensive at this point. It's been 16 years and she's still flat and only gets to shine in action sequences (for about 10 seconds).

The Mystique worship was so cringeworthy. Storm deserves better.

Lol right? SHE is the Weather Goddess. She should have people worshipping HER.

Storm worshiping RAVEN made me so MAD. Just a load of bull.

and they didn't even use that plot device to the full effect.

they made a point about Storm worshipping Mystique.

you would think that would then come into play when she sees Apo choking her idol on the battlefield.

THAT'S when you'd expect Storm to turn on Apo. to save her idol who she worships.

but instead she just cowers and looks conflicted.

so, as a plot device, her Mystique worship failed.

Storm looking up to Mystique is actually fine with me. Who wouldn't? And it was not just her.

Singer just failed to give us a better Storm.

The lingering shot of a Mystique poster hanging on Storm's wall was so bad. "I want to be just like her!" LOL

Maybe if they made better use of this storyline, it wouldn't be so bad, but she was still mostly sidelined yet again. That being her ONLY characterization is just sad.

Great fighter, she's my hero, I want to be like her! LMAO!

I literally face palmed when I first saw that!

it was shown on tv implying that Mystique in her mutant form, save the president.

And these young mutants felt that need to hide themselves but seeing what Mystique did, it's believable for them to look up to Mystique.

It was fine. I just wished we got more screentime from her , glyinh high up in the sky and playing with the clouds, shaping them with her winds.

Singer should have used X-Knight over Kinberg!

What all did Storm do with her powers?

-Created Wind (In the market place)
-"rode a lightning bolt"
-Summon wind to throw a car
-Shot lightning at to split Jean, Cyclops and Beast
-Shot lightning at Cyclops
-Summon lightning bolts onto Apocalypse shield
-Lightning in the danger room

-She always "flew" a few times. (Wind)

How I wsih Shipp was also helping Jean and Magneto rebuild the x-mansion.

LOL at Apocalypse face like "Whatever" after Storm told him that Mystique is her hero, i laughed.

and yet. you do nothing to save your idol when she's being choked to death. :o

I thought it was made fairly clear that the mutants serving Apocalypse did so because of the idea of mutant superiority VS their humble origins/places in the world. They wanted to be godlike beings. They weren't presented as terribly moral people to begin with. The idea is also in the film that while they're not outright brainwashed, he's preying on their weaknesses a bit. I don't know that they were 100% in control of their actions. It's somewhat ambiguously handled.

Anyway, I think one of the issues people are having with Storm (aside from a lack of development after her early scenes) is that people expected to see something more powerful than any version of Storm we've ever seen on film...whereas the film presents Apocalypse's enhancement of her being the reason Storm acquired the level of power she generally has in the first place.

And she's young and inexperienced in this film, so her use of power is pretty rudimentary compared to some of what we've previously seen from Storm in this franchise.

Omigod. Is it possible that I actually agree with you on something? Lord, can it be? :oldrazz:

I don't come cheap. :o

but really, each of the horsemen should have had something that Apo preys upon. They sort of alluded to it but never really developed the characters fully. again, aside from Magneto.

Storm feels rejection and betrayed by the people she tries to help, as outlined in my scenario above.

For Angel, it's vanity. His beautiful wings have been torn. The humans lock him up in a cage to fight like an animal. But Apo can give him his wings back, better, stronger than before. he can free Angel from the cage the humans put him in and allow him to ascend as an Archangel.

For Psylocke, it's envy. She feels inadequate compared to other telepaths and psychics. But Apo shows her she's powerful in her own right - she can do things with her mind that the other telepaths can't.

For Magneto, it's rage and anger - for obvious reasons.

Only Magneto's motivations for joining were developed to any extent.

with Angel and Psylocke, it's sort of hinted it but not really explored.

and with Storm, it's practically non existent.

Shipp did a fine job with what she was given.I loved the displays of power and the accent (hope they keep that).

Storm as character though did feel underused and underdeveloped. Especially when compared to the subplot given her fellow horseman Magneto. It would have been nice to learn her background, her motivations for stealing etc.

As someone else said, she's not even mentioned by name.X1 is i think the only movie where she's called Ororo.

Hank refers to her as Ororo in X3. Kelsey's delivery was just perfect there.

^^I stand corrected. It's been a while since i've fully watched X3.

Yes, Kelsey was great as Beast.

yes hes much better than Nicholas. does anyone know if they can include Storm in an Avengers movie since she's been a part of that team before. I would settle with then calling her Ororo or Rain or something else as long as they did her right which I know they would
