Mighty Avengers returns in Infinity.

The team is kind of underwhelming. Black Panther, Storm and Luke Cage. That right there is a better start to a good team of "minority" members.

Wait a minute, this isn't even an Avengers team? It's freaking Heroes for Hire?! This is as bad as New Avengers technically being the Illuminati.

 It is an Avengers team. The team isn't even formed yet at the beginning of the book...

Anyone notice this yet?

Replace the new Power Man with Iron Fist and Monica Rambeau with Nova....and you've got the team from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon...

A part of me hopes this book fails miserably so Marvel realizes that they can't just slap the Avengers name on everything to make it sell.

You know they will just say that it didnt sell bc it predominantly featured black characters. Not even being released under the Avengers branding made people buy this. That'll be the spin and used to justify why minorities get the shaft in books going forward. Sad but inevitable

Doe anyone else find it offensive that Marvel designed a "minority" team in the first place rather than pushing for integration on already established teams?

There's been minorities on the Avengers for years. There's currently a few on the latest incarnation.

What I find interesting/funny/sad is that if you switched out the black characters on this team for white characters, and the white ones for black ones, people would have no issue. But the way it is now is somehow "offensive"...

Despite significant reservations about the title, I picked up Issue #1 mainly because it was a tie-in to Infinity. As much as I hate to admit it, I was wrong - Mighty Avengers #1 was actually good. The writing was solid, the art was pretty decent, and the characterizations and dialogue was excellent. For an introductory issue (that serves as an event cash-in), the book was great. Not as good as Avengers or New Avengers but still pretty great.

I have always liked Spider-Man (even the "Superior" version) and Spectrum (formerly Photon) but, prior to reading the issue, I was largely indifferent to Luke Cage, She-Hulk, and White Tigher. However, after a single issue, Ewing got me to really like Luke Cage despite 100+ issues of Bendis' New Avengers never accomplishing that. So far, the team consists of [BLACKOUT]Cage, Spectrum, Spock, a mystery character, and, presumably, White Tiger and Power Man[/BLACKOUT]. Unfortunately for me, I've hated the new Power Man since his creation and this issue did nothing to win me over.

Maybe he'll grow on me but I still fail to see why Power Man is needed at all. Offensive personality aside, his powerset exists as an amalgam of Cage and Rand. Since both are active in MU, I fail to see why such a character was created at all or why he has a place on the team at all. Can't we just get Iron Fist instead of a younger, less-experienced, *****ier version? The Cage/Iron Fist dynamic is fantastic and, while it's great they're trying to introduce a new generation of heros, Power Man is nothing more than a lame imitation.

Power Man rant aside, this issue was great and my opinions have changed. I still find the cast oddly redundant and don't know if I'll stick around after Infinity concludes but, for now, I'll happily add Mighty Avengers to my pull list.

What is up with Monica Rambeau's hair? Who is the mysterious "Spider-Hero"? How hot is White Tiger, na'mean?

Also, the expanded Avengers roster has 14 caucasians, 6 minorities of differing ethnicities, and 2 aliens. The ratio is the best we've ever seen, yet nothing close to real life representation. Like Monster Girl asks in the newest Invincible issue, if females make up half the population, shouldn't there be more female superheroes? Where are they? Are they in hiding?

I like what they did with Monica's appearance (hair and outfit). Like Cage's Tiara and yellow silk shirt and the Punisher's white boots and gloves, the classic designs are pretty outdated now.

As for the "Spider-Hero", the clues given were that the character is [BLACKOUT]male, had recently been exiled from the United States, is muscular (means nothing, lol), and knows Monica well[/BLACKOUT]. I have no clue but maybe someone else can make an educated guess?

EDIT: Anyone wanting to avoid spoilers should stay away from the wikipedia page. I don't know where the information came from but the "Mighty Avengers" wikipedia page lists the identity of "Ronin" (Spider Hero). If it's true, the only thing I have to say is ... who? I've heard the name but I fail to see the relevance/importance of said character.

why can't spider hero be Miles from the ultimate universe...?

Well, to be fair, I think the whole "Spider Hero" schtick is only gonna be for this issue. Most likely, the character will become Ronin. There really isn't any spider connotations aside from coincidence.

That said, there's no one saying they won't swap Spock for Miles when they make the universe transfer. You can still have some hope!

I think Miles will be "swapped" with SpOck at some point by the end of this year...

:yay:

I expect that myself. I'd prefer Spider-Man 2099, but Miles seems like a better fit.

Anyone could have put that name up, so I don't really put any trust in that, or anything on wikipedia really unless the issue confirming it is out already.

I didn't read the first issue and have no real interest in reading the series but from what I know, it does seem weird that the person in question has an association with Captain Marvel/Photon/Spectrum.
