Across the States.

Here in North Carolina, it went from a lousy $6.55 to $7.25.

For me on the other hand...before I quit Wal-Hell--Wal-Mart. I made $7.90 working in the parking lot, full-time. Wal-Mart btw pays %7.50 an hour starting, well they did at least before I quit like 2 months ago.

It's now offically higher than my first four jobs.

Mine too. In my first job I was paid $4.25 to bag groceries.

Nice. My first job was $5.25 at McDonalds, then I started my long career in customer service and worked at a couple of places up to $7.50 starting.

(I remember when I started working at a call center making $7.25 and thought I was a ridch man!)

I wish that someone could explain how the minimum wage is actually beneficial to the American economy. You make companies pay employees more they raise prices for goods and services. Consumers now make more money, which is good because things cost more.

Trying to bring the lowest class up to the middle class only drops the middle class to the lowest class.

My first job at a movie theater, I was getting paid $5.25/hour. BUT...if we found money on the floor while we were cleaning it, we could keep it. Once I found $20 on the floor and didn't do work for 3 hours.

In my province, they are about to raise it to $10.00. If it hasn't been raised already...

Raising minimum wage during a recession is not a good thing.

Good job Government, now more people are being let go from there much needed jobs. Awesome.

I think the minimum wage shouldn't be raised for a while. I actually don't have too large an issue with this raise - because I think the 7.25 mark is very fair for the minimum wage worker. Anything above 7.50 is getting too high for a minimum wage job, IMO.

That's surprisingly un-libertarian of you. ;)

I feel like businesses should have the ability to pay, overpay, and even underpay their employees for minimum wage jobs. If I McDonalds is willing to pay 6.50 an hour and Jack in the Box is willing to pay 7.50 then Jack in the Box will get more employees to select from and therefore have better employees, better service, and better business.

To compete McDonalds will need start raising the amount that they pay.

Wow... How much is that in American dollars also which province do you live in?
I believe that would be about $9.26 USD. I will never reveal my location as Ontario to a potential stalker... Crap.
We started raising it loooong before the recession.

Out here in California it's $8.00...but everything out here is more expensive than the rest of the states anyways so I guess that's fair.

I don't really think its that simple. Everything is getting more and more expensive. Shouldn't minimum wage increase as the cost of living increases?

My first job...was a construction worker. Last one day, but got paid like $8.05 (most I've ever been paid btw)

I was the guy that has to clean up after everybody. Worked very hard, but got dehydrated (my fault of course). I worked so hard and was tired, the guy wanted me to comeback for a second day (It was through Tesi, so it was a temp job but with the option of being hired, I guess through the construction company) Hell, I heard the guy called Tesi and asked again if I were to coem back.

Right now...I know I could do that job, I just need to drink more water of course if I ever did it. Granted it was hard and not worth the money, but better pay than most jobs around here.

My hat off to construction workers. Hard job, esp to the ones who needs to clean up the sites (I had to move a **** load of wood and debris in the front yard...by myself....took me 4 hours.) Not only that, clean ditches and ****.

That is why your state is bankrupt:cmad:

HA! I made $3.35/hr at my first job. The only Church's Chicken I ever heard of that also sold burgers!

The minimum wage is a joke. Children get paid more in allowance. With inflation shooting thru the roof how is anyone able to survive on 7 measley dollars an hour starting out?

We are deflating globally right now due to credit destruction from consumer defaults, and higher rates of savings (lower money circulation). So everyone is technically getting a pay raise and their savings are increasing in value.

It would be insanely stupid to raise the minimum raise especially during a deflationary recession. Unless their idea of an economic recovery includes high unemployment. Which of course all the politicians are doing anyways.

Of course, if Bernake's gets what he wants in inflation, you are looking at a ballpark of a 20% pay raise to meet our current value of what is considered minimum wage in the upcoming years. That's the best scenario if the deflationary end of the recession occurs.

Every time I read a post of Paradox's where he discusses economics, I always think of the economics class from Ferris Bueller's Day Off
