Apparently, Marvel has the rights to the character and to reprint the 50's/60's stoires. So it might be a while until we see anything from the Moore/Gaiman issues.

Moore gave his rights to the character to Gaimen, and Gaimen & Marvel teamed up a few years back when they created 1602, where all proceeds went to help Gaimen fight McFarlane for MarvelMan ownership... I'm sure that Gaimen & Marvel would be more than happy to work together and let Gaimen finish his remaining 10 issues... what happens after that is unknown, but Marvel would be stupid to let this kind of opportunity get away from them...

Yeah, but what about the whole, Todd McFarlane owning some of those rights too? Or did they buy the stuff they got from him?

McFarlane's been told twice in a court of law that he has no claim to MiracleMan, once in a regular trial, and seconded in the appeal... but he has more money than Gaimen, so I think for the longest time, he was just using the legal system to prevent Gaimen from releasing stuff...

Now with Marvel on board, he's either backing off, or he's on the phone with his lawyer as you read this...

:csad:

I hope they just put out some trades and leave the character the hell alone. God forbid Bendis gets hold of him and does another Sentry. :o

QFT.

But you just he'll be awkwardly shoehorned into put into continuity.

So now I guess he'll get his real name back, even though Marvel was the one causing problems about the name...:whatever:

i scored a copy of Miracleman #14 at my comic shop for 20 bucks. I have issues 1-10, 14, 16, 18, the 3D special and Miracleman: The Apocrypha #1. Miracleman #16 has gotta be one of the greatest comic books ever written. I had hoped that i could collect all 24 issues before all the rights got cleared up, because i love the hunt when it comes to collecting these books, but whatever. If i can finally read #15 as it should be read(as in not downloaded, on a computer screen) without paying lots of money to get it, i'll be a happy camper. A nice Miracleman omnibus would kick ass.

More Miracleman stories though? As long as it takes place outside the Marvel universe and Gaiman writes it, i'm down. I don't really want to see Spider-Man take on Miracleman. Miracleman is something special. I don't want it dampered down by throwing the Avengers and crap into the mix.

This could be good and bad.

Good, because Neil Gaiman could FINALLY finish his run.

Bad. . . because Marvel may Sentry him.

Or Marvel may kill Sentry (which is a good thing) and replace him with Miracleman.

Maybe.... but Mike Moran's untold story NEEDS to be told... though it's the supposed end of MarvelMan in the end... maybe we'll get an AI solution and have Gaimen's story told with Marvel giving us a Speilberg ending...

Personally, IF Marvel were smart, they'd let Gaimen finish the story as if 14 years never went by... a sort of a "what if?" thing... and then introduce the character into their universe as they wish... because I can't see how you'd fit what Gaimen & Moore has done into the Marvel Universe... as dark a place the MU is... MM's world is much darker...

Just keep MM separate from the Marvel universe, and under the MAX line.

If there's any justice in the universe, Marvel will put Marvelman/Miracleman under their Icon imprint, along with Brubaker's Criminal and Bendis' Powers. Icon never crosses over into the rest of the Marvel Universe.

If you can get your hands on this stuff its the best series ever. there is another thread about the best moments in comics and I could fill a whole list with just events from this series (remember how I promised not to kill you? I WAS LYING STEVE.)

I have a question and I think this is the thread to ask it in: I believe that the name change (from Marvel- to Miracle-man) is actually an improvement, I think it more accurately reflects who this character is. I would like to know: Does anyone else feel this way? Am I crazy? Why? Do you think they will/should change the name back for reprints?

In Summary:
THIS IS THE GREATEST BOOK IN COMICS, for the longest time I looked like a lunatic trying to tell folk that there was better Alan Moore than Watchmen and V, but hopefully marvel will reprint this and I will be able to show my friends the best comic

Yea, i agree with you. Miracleman is much cooler sounding, majestic even. It connotes all sorts of incredible things. Marvelman sounds like...you guessed it, some lame Marvel Comics superhero. I dont think Marvel would change the name back to Marvelman. Most people know the character as Miracleman anyway.

Also, i agree that this is quite possibly Alan Moore's best work. Best, or second best, after Swamp Thing(my personal favorite).

LXG and Promethea remains Moore's best work for me.

And yet they keep calling him Marvelman in everything I've read since they got the rights.

Plus you just know they are going to do some big Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Blue Marvel, Masked Marvel and Marvelman company wide crossover event. Written by Loeb. Art by Liefeld.

No Marvel Girl?

Her too.

And Justice goes back to Marvel Boy. Either him or The Uranian.

This I think is because the purchase was from Mick Anglo's newly minted claim that the comics company that owned the original 50s version never actually got the rights from him (which I don't belive creators rights in the 50s? come on.) I hope this doesn't mean that they have the rights to the completely useless version of this character. I just read the official marvel press release and now I don't think those reprints are as close as we think. Way more likely (but completely stupid) is that they have the rights to the 50s stories and the character so they might either reprint Anglo stuff or (shudder) bring him into the marvel universe. Or it could be that folks are using it because the nerd-knowledge makes you cool (like knowing who Curt Vile is)

Its sad to think of it but they can do anything they want that would look like the 50s because
anything from then could be a training program by Dr. Emil Gargunza

Most people? In Britain, most people know him as Marvelman. Because that's who he was to begin with.

Also, the whole point of the character is that he was a blatant rip-off of Captain Marvel. The real one, I mean. Not Mar-vell or Monica Rambeau or any of Marvel's Captain Marvels.

You're right. It was dumb of me to say "most people". I should have been specific. My apologies.

Miracleman is still a cooler name than Marvelman. :oldrazz:
