More Than Just Hair: The Bulma Discussion Thread

of course it was sarcasm. it is a nice example how blue doesnt look strange.

again its 2008. people have all kind of colored hair. blue,green,purple,orange,......
again a blue haired bulma wouldnt look strange or unrealistic.

I was just messing with you dark, but I agree. Blue hair isn't so ridiculous nowadays.

True, there are people out there with just about every color imaginable. But unless you're in a club, rave or what not, people still do stare a little. They're a relatively rare sight, especially in comparison to those who only slightly streak their hair.

Add to that the fact that if I'm not mistaken, she's supposed to be a high school student. I don't know about you, but I definitely don't recall that many (or any for that matter) people with whole heads of blue back when I was in school.

Well, Dragonball is supposed to take place on a fantasy Earth, so what's realistic for us shouldn't matter.

true, today I saw a girl with lime green cornrows and a latina with Purple hair yesterday, colors are everywhere and like RachelDawes said, DBZ is suppose to be futuristic, I mean look at the robo-tech and Androids that've appeared throughout the the series, and even characters like Launch and Trunks (if the series survives to his birth will he have a purple Barbie streak?)

According to Adam : Emmy rossum will be in Japan in December. Most likely for Jump Festa.

And here's a Japanese commercial she appeared in:

Thanks Adam.

I expected to see "Mentos. It's the fresh maker."

I still think if they make DB sequels Bulma`s hair will have more blue in it.

hmmmm if this is true then the question is why not from the beginnign?

I think they skimped on the blue because they thought it was "unrealistic" but since the design seems to be unpopular among fans they'll make it bluer for the sequel.

I think Bulma's hair will be like Storms in the X-films. They'll keep trying to please fans throughout the course of the sequels, but will ultimately fail miserably each time.

IMO ''realistic'' has nothign to do with it. its unrealistic to think that a guy can fly in the air with hes superpowers. its realistic to have a girl with blue hair because.......................................now its coming..........................people actually have blue hair in our real world.

plus you said that they will change it because fans dont like it.

noooooo really? FOX knew from the beginning that fans will nto be happy that Bulma doesnt have blue hair.

so :
1) they are making fun of us and are insulting our inteligence
2) thy are stupid.

I say blame Wong not Fox. Well....Blame Fox anyways...lol

i dont think Wong came to FOX and wanted to make a DB movie. FOX wanted to make a movie and found a guy who will film it.
a ''tool'' maybe?

supposedly they tried different wigs on Emmy that included a full head of blue hair, but Wong and crew weren't happy with the way any of the full blue wigs turned out. if that's the case, then it's Wong's fault for not finding a way to make it work...but more fault falls on Fox for not giving Wong enough time to find a way to make it work. normally directors have a good amount of time for location scouting, makeup and costume tests, etc....but it's pretty clear that's not the case with this movie.

They went to Stephen Chow first but he declined, though wanted to produce instead.

I believe Wong actually pitched an idea to Fox, though. . .

Sure, we know that blue hair is realistic, but does Fox? Maybe they just thought blue hair looks stupid and campy.

FOX knew from the beginning that fans will nto be happy that Bulma doesnt have blue hair.

Did they? I'm not sure Fox execs know much about Dragonball or its fans.

Probably correct.

Forgive my ignorance because I've never changed my hair color, but couldn't they just have dyed her hair? Could that look even worse than a wig?

this is how life works. if you are a fan of a comic or a cartoon then you like how it looks. so of course a fan would be angry that it is nto like in the cartoon or manga.

i was expecting 40% blue on bulma. 20& would make me angry but in a way not suprised since its FOX.

but 4% blue on her hair is just..........WRONG

dying movie stars' hair is sort of a 20th century method. it takes a lot of work just to get it right and it damages the hair. with how busy actors and actresses are now-a-days (making more movies than they did back in the 80's and 90's) it's less practical to dye their hair. not to mention, if you get it wrong then it just creates more problems. wigs really are easier and more practical.

the problem is that they couldn't find a fully blue wig that they felt comfortable putting on camera. if Fox had given them more prep time then they might have been able to pull off Bulma's full head of blue hair without it looking corny.....but then again the fact that Fox rushed this into production just to make a quick buck shows that they really don't care about the result on film as long as those results brought them some money. they were thinking with their wallets instead of their hearts.

Perfect example - Famke Jansen in X-Men.
Not only did the dye job damage her hair, but because Famke has JET BLACK hair, her hair came out brown instead of red. :o

I donno, I mean they had plenty of time to work on Storms hair in the X-films (made evident by the test footage shown in the X1 dvd) yet her hair still came out AWFUL! And it was just as bad in the 2nd movie, though I think it finally worked in X3.

Not only that, but even Jean Grey who simply has red hair - a not so very 'out there' color - and had a fantastic wig in X2, had an awful awful awful wig in X3.

Fox just can't hire good hair people I suppose. I mean, I really don't think it's all that hard.. but I guess it is.
