Morrison's Batman & Robin series revealed

What a great new issue. The art was fantastic, especially Cameron Stewart. Great fight scenes. So, can anyone who fully understand, explain to me what was going on in that flashback scene, and who Dr. Hurt is?

Awful, awful art of #16, what is up with Joker's head when he gets punched? It's coming off!

The art was pretty damn cool the majority of the time. That did catch me off guard too though. It looked so badly proportioned. My favorite part of Irving's art was the dollatron creator Pyg was bringing people to. For Stewart definitely the fight scene with the 99 Fiends. I liked Burnham's style on this too since it's basically Frank Quitely meets Frank Miller.

Dr. Hurt is
Thomas Wayne evil ancestor of Bruce Wayne, the bat he ate was "barbatos". The thing the people who performed the ceremony saw as a giant bat, but to the girl seemed like a large bat.

It's the "hyper adapter" Darkseid released into the world as seen in BATMAN #702. It told hurt what to do since he asked for "life ever re-borning in blood". It granted him immortality he's possibly been Jack The Ripper amongst others.

Return of Bruce Wayne #6 should shed some more light on all this as it's the missing piece of the puzzle right now.

Anyone else catch the potential origin of the "Simon Hurt" name? Thomas, after the bat says it's the omega adapter, he says "Yes! Yes! Omega Adaptus! Simon for the magus named."

Thought that was cool. I guess that's either his name within his little coven or something.

Nah it was just a reference to Simon Magus it makes sense if you know about him. Look him up. I guess Hurt saw himself as a contemporary to Magus. It's what he asked the "omega adapter" (Barbatos) to christen him. Hence he's SIMON Hurt. No longer Thomas Wayne. I thought it was awesome BTW how they made him look like Bruce during the ritual. The "dark twin" thing even more clearer.

I cant even read the comics anymore because grant morrison destroyed it. :(

If you can't enjoy any of the Batman comics out there simply because of Grant Morrison, that is really ignorant. David Finch, Neal Adams, Frank Miller, Brian Azzarello all are for example writing more grimdark avenger type Batman, and you are getitng monthlies from these writers.

Honestly there are so many batbooks out there, why do people invest their energy on whining when they just need to go to their local comic shop, pick a Batman comic of THEIR taste and ENJOY it?

That is true though. In 71 years of publication there have been hundreds upon hundreds of stories many fans have never even heard of; that feature a more "traditional" take on Batman. So it's not like there aren't alternatives out there.

In the mid 00's if it wasn't Gotham Central I wasn't buying any bat books. I was just not into the direction the universe was taking in the mainstream books. With that said I still managed to enjoy the Matt Wagner's Dark Moon Rising series, Dark Detective by Englehart & Rogers and Brubaker's The Man Who Laughs. Which were also published around that time. Along with many other stories I hadn't gotten the chance to get to read in my many years as a fan at that point. Stories that spanned across from the golden age all the way up to the modern age.

I just found that a much more rewarding and productive approach than wasting my time complaining about something I'm not even interested in. There are hundreds of options; whether you want to research and look into them yourself though is another question. Just how into the Batman comic books are you really if you can't take time to find something that fits your personal sensibilities as a reader? 'cause trust me it's not like it DOESN'T exist.

It's not that I don't like Morrison (I loved Arkham Asylum!!!), but it's that I get the feeling he's a modern day Lewis Carol and assume he's hyped up on drugs; right now I can't keep up with his work. It's going in WAY too many places. I'm sticking to old and new one shots until Batman settles down a little bit. :oldrazz:

I think some fans wont even look for "Their" type of Batman comic cause they want "Their" Batman to be the dominant direction DC's invested in.

In other words, they want all the attention on "Generic Batman"....

So you re going to wait until batman stories become boring and simplistic again?

Well like i said, you should check out Neal Adams' Batman Odyssey, Brian Azzarello's upcoming Batman: Europa, perhaps Frank Miller's Dark Knight: Boy Wonder and David Finch's Batman: Dark Knight. There are comics that might suit your desire to read the Batman that is for you. =)

Or even Synder's Detective Comics.
