Mortal Kombat

They never released concept art of Shinji. However, Rei clearly looked asian in the concept art they put out.

doesn't seem like rei to me with black hair, but I love that they made the plug suit at least faithful to the original

ahhh the greatest thing on the first MK was Kano .. holy **** trevor goddard made him great..

*pulls out a ****ing huge knife*
Kano: now look at this.. This little baby right here brings back memorys doesnt it
Sonya: Did you stab your mother in the back with it ?
Kano: Naww.. it put a big smile on your partner though.. from ear*slides the knife under his jaw* to ear

holy **** i've got to watch the first one again.. btw who the **** was that dude that fought against Liu Kang in the first fight.. hah i almost died when he did the Lion roar :hehe:

The dude with the dreadlocks that Liu Kang fought was just some unamed fighter, in real life tho, the guy's name is Hakeem Austin, back in the day he played Jax in the Mortal Kombat Live Tour, and later he was on a martial arts show called WMAC Masters along with Ho Sung Pak (the guy who portrayed Liu Kang in both MK1 and MK2 games)

In the Evangelion script I was writing, I had Rei as an Asian albino with white hair and red irises in her eyes. However, I wouldn't mind her having black hair in the movie as long as it meant she wasn't being played by a white blond chick.

He would have made a better Jax then that guy from Annihilation. But hey, a friggin' ensemble of oscar winners wouldn't have been able to save that movie. Oddly enough though, I still find MKA entertaining to watch, simply because it's so bad it's good (anyone who watches MSTK3 should know what I'm talking about).

Yeah, Lynn Redd Williams did suck as Jax, but hell, he has never been in any movies prior to that, he was from American Gladiators, MKA is one of those movies you watch for comedy, even though its not a comedy movie. I never understood Cyrax's net melting people, lol wtf

My mistake then. But if you check the label on the concept art, it does say 'Ray' instead of 'Rei'. Also, in this link, the concept arts for Asuka and Misato show they've been renamed 'Kate Rose' and 'Susan Whitnall' respectively.

The EVAs look AWESOME! The humans...not a big fan. Asuka looks good, Rei looks good despite the fact I don't like the dark hair. Misato is a major "eh". I don't recall her ever wearing anything like that in the series. And I'm not a huge fan of renamin characters either...but then again I'm a huge EVA fan (it's my favorite anime) so I'll nit pick on it, but I understand if they do make some changes to make it more "Western" (although I'd prefer they didn't). But nonethe less I would still see the movie and if it sucks i still have the anime.

And on Mortal Kombat I love the first film. Probably still the best videogame movie IMO.

Yeah its definitely the best video game movie ever...(others just suck).

I was actually reading some old posts in this thread and one person said Mortal Kombat is a bad movie but yet think that Halo movie will be better than this movie...:whatever:...(let's keep in mind, whether its legend of zelda or halo or whichever, its gonna be hard to top Mortal Kombat movie)

yeah, and the funny thing about it is that Mortal Kombat was a game that featured many different characters and storylines, unlike Zelda and Halo that deal with one main character. MK1 will always be a great video game adaptation

I've seen high res pictures of the Rei concept art, and on her uniform the artist wrote "Rei Ayanami." "Ray" was simply the name put on there by one of the Weta office employees, at least that's what Richard Taylor said. At that point, they didn't even have a script yet, so I didn't lose much sleep over it.

At any rate though, it's been so long since that art was made that even if the movie picked up steam again, and Weta were still attached, none of those would be the designs we'd see on film anyway. Production companies like Weta go through tons of sketches and paintings before they get what they want for production, and that's not even taking into consideration what the director might have to say about it.

Was I the only one who liked Annihilation Sonya better than the original Sonya?

I always felt that the original Sonya looked better, but Annihilation Sonya had more personality.

Which brings us to the age old question: Looks OR personality?

But I say why not both?
Whatever. Both were hot.

tbh the movie made me like the characters more than the games did. lui kang seemed like a ninny in the games, but robin shou was pretty badass. shang tsung was some dumb old guy archetype, and whoever played him was ****ing evil incarnate when i was 6. i always hated johnny cage and kano, but their actors made their characters awesome. it really is a great movie

im ashamed to admit it, but i was too scared to watch it when it came out in theatres. i was 5 or 6, and when shang tsung was like "YO SOUL IS MINE" and decepifies lui's brother i freaked out and high-tailed it outta there!

Trevor Goddard killed himself, so any respect I had for him went out the window....I liked Annihilation Sonya better....I like Bridget Wilson, just not in that role

Didn't know he died. Also didn't know he faked being australian. At least according to Wiki.

He was born in England....probably adapted the Australian accent to get work....got him on JAG for a couple years

If a reboot should ever happen, hopefully they manage to give characters like Sub-Zero and Scorpion more development. Liu, Sonya and Johnny should still be the main focus, but the Ninjas should also be more than silent, uber henchmen.

A few lines are enough. Like when Sub-Zero gets the order from Shang Tsung to rough the chosen earth warriors up, he'll glance at Scorpion and say something like "If you ever hope to regain your honor, it would be unfortunate if anything happens to Sub-Zero." And then we have Scorpion following Sub-Zero to back him up.

Like in that cartoon that was released way back. Not Defenders of the Realms. And it needs to be revealed that Sub-Zero was send to assassinate Shang Tsung. Or just hint at it and reveal it in a Sequel with the yonger brother taking over the assignment.

Oh man, I still have it. I remember that line.

Well, it wasn't the exact quote, but something like that. But it would be enough to show that there's more about Scorpion than just being a lackey and that he has his own goals.

Then in sequels they could take their time fleshing out characters that didn't get the chance in the first Movie.

It's hard to see someone else doing Liu Kang. Robin Shou really made the role, imo, but he's getting old.
