Really happy about the realistic approach. The fantasy elements in Legacy were it's worst parts IMO (Mainly Kitana episodes).

The choices with Oldman is not gonna happen. Then again he did Red Rising Hood. Though I do like your choices for Cage and Tsung.

And haha, why recast Dale as Sub-Zero when Boon is not an actor; he's a video game designer. He's just provided the voice of Scorpion in the past.

I know Oldman won't agree to something like this (Specially after the Oscar nod he'll be getting for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) but hey, one can dream

Damn, as funny as that all would be for a spoof I really hope they leave some of the mystical elements in and allow the supernatural to be supernatural. It doesn't have to be in your face obvious but nothing contrived please.

take note from Lord of the Rings. had a great blend of some realism and mystical elements.

I would be very surprised if this movie has no supernatural/mystical stuff going on. As a matter of fact that's one of my least worries for the film.

I think when they use words like, "Gritty" and "Realistic", they aren't talking about no magiks, sorcery and other realms but rather how characters interact with others and the world itself. Also the overall tone of the film. Not necessarily grounding the world and characters into alignment with reality. I'm thinking the Rebirth short is what is responsable for this way of thinking. What everyone has to remember is that was just a concept (a cool one and interesting to see). No way that would fly with the true MK fan base because it just wasn't "real" Mortal Kombat.

And it's not like the mysticism and fantasy can't be presented in a "Gritty" and "Realistic" manner.

The first Movie already toned down the supernatural element. A lot of the characters that were able to throw projectiles in the games, didn't in the Movie. I really liked that they kept the humans as real as possible.

Yes! That is the perfect balance. Earth realm fighters should not be able to spam fireballs. How they did it with Liu Kang was perfect IMO. Just summoning enough chi to send Shang of the edge was "believable" in a way.

When it comes to the Outworld characters, Gods, Sorcerers and Spectres etc. Keep all of that stuff to show what Earth is up against.

The problem is the explanations given about the tone of the new movie are exactly in line with what Rebirth was doing. I agree that if Rebirth didn't exist, people wouldn't be worried, but it does exist, so it's a very probable direction for the project given the information we have.

IMO if it was going to be in the style of the mini-series, aka "real" with a bit of fantasy, he would've just said "yeah it'll continue the style of the mini-series but with a new story and cast." But, he didn't say that...

I couldn't care less about a movie without the fantasy and mythology of MK, which becomes MK in name only, like Rebirth. I'm positive Kevin won't do that.

Like someone already said, the first movie found the perfect balance between realistic and fantastical for MK. It could be like that.

I think there's a balance that can be struck. I guess the thing is you generally don't associate fantasy with being gritty and violent.

As long as the dialouge is good and the story makes sense and the actors can act then it will make money hand over feet.

I doubt they remove all mysticism.It would kill the box office.I'm sure they saw what happened to the Chun Li Street Fighter movie.Scorpion can't be true to the chracter unless he's a specture.I'm sure Kevin knows this.
