So, some may see this as a mean spirited thread but I don't mean it to be, I'm hoping this'll be a fun trip down nostalgia lane.

The review embargo. The moment of truth when our anticipated CBM films face the critics, this year was a landmark year for Rotten Tomatoes vs. Comic Book films, I feel. But, you have to admit that sometimes these things can produce grand spectacle with the fans in terms of reactions/ meltdowns or even celebration. Especially here on the Hype.

What are some of your favorite embargo life moments? Off the top of my head, I think I'll go with Fant4stic, with each new negative review that came in it seemed like everyone here on the Hype was doing collective break dances and popping the proverbial champagne. It was such a unique experience to see everyone united to see the movie crash.

The Fant4stic, BvS and Suicide Squad embargo lifts were all pretty memorable.

Alternatively, the embargo lift for The Force Awakens shocked me at how overwhelmingly positive the reviews were when I was expecting a more lukewarm reception.

I remember enjoying Suicide Squad meltdown but Doctor Strange is perhaps the best Rotten Tomatoes experience I remember. I was so sure it was going to end up in 70's, but no. It stayed in the 90's for the whole time. It never dropped below 90 % and recently climbed up to 91 %. That's amazing!

Marvel Phase 3 has a beautiful start.

Civil War was entertaining, mainly because to see a franchise achieve that type of review for the 5th time in 13 tries was amazing.

And as much of a DC, Batman, Superman fan I was, I did think the meltdowns over BvS and SS were funny.

Many people (myself included) were expecting it to drop to at least 84%, pretty impressive it managed to hold unto the 90s.

and BvS was definitely unforgettable, it was at 0% for a good while LOL.

Let's not forget Amazing Spiderman 2, boy o boy were people freakin' out during that LOL

FFINO was probably my personal favorite due to vindication. I had been arguing for almost a year in advance with contrarians insisting that things were just honky dory behind the scenes despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, so I was happy it wound up as a monumental garbage fire. I still can't get over how obvious it was, yet so many people here were regularly arguing otherwise.

BvS was a different beast entirely. I was initially saddened by the lackluster reviews, but it made for an entertaining time here.

Definitely BvS, FFINO and SS. I still go back and re-read those threads. The Epoc meltdowns were downright hilarious. :lmao:

Batman V Superman.

The RT thread for that movie started a conspiracy for christs sake. Plus it was alot more dark than funny in that thread. People were getting modded for defending that they liked the movie. They had to make a seperate thread for optimism... I was in that thread every day just to bask in the despair.

BvS and SS. The meltdowns were epic! GL could be here too!

I was so sad about BvS. 3 years following this thing only for everyone to take a steamy dump in it (and rightfully so unfortunately)

Fantfourstic was fun though

The BvS lift maybe. I wouldnt say entertaining. It was actually kinda sad. The memes were funny. But the delusion that started, and is still going with the vocal minority got kinda sad.

The X-Men Apocalypse one was funny because they were so ready. They really thought that had another hit and that s*** just went left. Actually it didn't go left it started in a bad place. There was one member (if you were in the Apocalypse News and Discussion thread you know who I'm talking about) who I swear mightve been crying, which usually isn't funny when someone is crying. But this was over the reception to a movie!
But the cool part about it was, after the s***show that was post BvS it was nice to see a large amount of a fanbase, at least on here, not bash critics, claim there's a conspiracy, or any nonsense like that. That was really dope especially in a year when the Fanboy Community hasn't really looked that good.

Trust me when I say this, Green Lantern 2011. Nothing else comes close, not even BvS.

With BvS, even the most hardcore DC fanboys knew deep down that it wasn't going to be very good with Snyder at the helm.

The level of denial and anger that came out of the GL RT thread is something I have never seen before or since.

Interesting. I wasnt too involved with GL at that time but its hard to imagine anger stronger than BvS' reception.

I was an active on this board in 2012 and in 2016. 2012 releases were insanely exciting, especially TDKR. 2016 was brutal in every way possible, you know the movie.

Personal attacks and condescension isn't required for defending the honor of a film.

That's why they got dropped.

It's hard to call the BvS one fun; I had held out so much hope that the movie would be good. Though after enough bad reviews came in, I think I was able to accept that the movie was likely bad and laugh it off a bit. But then I watched the movie and my blood really began to boil because of how awful it was.

I normally don't post in the Marvel sections so I don't have any experience there, but the BvS reception was just sad. It's funny in retrospect, but I don't think anybody expected the film to **** the bed that much. It was crazy to see pretty much every critic dislike the movie.

These posts are funny in retrospect (they're from right after the embargo lift)

I don't know in what world if even a good SS would have made up for a disappointing BvS.

BvS. After three years of DCEU fanboys being salty because people were critical of MOS and skeptical of BvS, I can honestly say that I laughed my ass off when I saw the initial low RT rating...and then, it got even lower after that.

The BvS situation was something else. I went from disappointed and upset over the reviews, to incredibly perplexed and then eventually entertained by the reaction to the reviews. So many people in the DC forums had already determined BvS would be good, and the reaction that week showed it.

I can't believe I laughed at the BvS stuff, but I did, it entertained me too much to forget.
And when Civil War came with a lot of positive, add insult to the wound, I laughed harder.

This really led to what daddydivine said about the uprising of the conspiracy theory stuff, and the neverending cycle of jokes on the matter.
