Most Entertaining RT Review Embargo Lifts

I can't find the FF thread. Is it still around somewhere?

I should have looked the word 'Tomatometer' up.

All the old FFINO threads are still archived in the Marvel Film section, you just have to go digging. You should read the argument I got into with Marvin where he tried to argue that the black containment suits weren't going to be the "final suits". Pure gold.

Nothing is more golden than all the guesses of it being 40% or higher, and then a massive blow came under the percentage of 10.

I hedged my bets and predicted that it would be a moderate hit. Man oh man was I happy to be wrong.

I am way more entertained when embargo lifts to stellar reviews than the opposite.
Seeing TDK, Avengers, more recently Civil War and Doctor Strange exceed expectations were amazing moments to be a cbm fan. Those are the ones that I keep in mind, people rejoicing, hype going through the roof, that's what I genuinely enjoy in this hobby.

Crappy movies getting crappy reviews, deluded fanboys, endless circular arguments ... that just does not entertain me, no matter the intensity of the nervous breakdown.

BvS. Never in all my years here have I enjoyed seeing a fanboy meltdown as much as I did there. Some of the comments made by DCEU fans back then should be framed for utter stupidity.

The amount of people who immediately screamed "CRITIC BIAS!!!1!!" right when the reviews hit was absurd.

I honestly don't know what fantasy land some people here live in where they believe film critics have it out for one specific studio making comic book films, particularly when said studio made the most critically-lauded superhero film of all time.

Yeah, even as a big DCEU fan myself, there came a point where I realized that where theres smoke theres fire. Theres obviously something off with this movie that is seriously putting all these critics off.

Yeah cause apparently Disney/Buena Vista owns RT not like how it says on the internet 70/30 Universal/WB.

The real insult to injury for BvS came though when the Civil War embargo lifted and the reviewers compared the 2 and said how Marvel got right what BvS got wrong.

Fant4stic we saw coming but watching the gates open was really something to see. It was just the sheer vindication that came after the outcries.

People here were going through an extreme existential crisis when that happened. It was simultaneously worrying and yet highly amusing.

And that's exactly why I'd say the Civil War embargo was waaaaaaaay more entertaining.

BvS essentially got bad reviews. That happens all the time. What we didn't see coming was when the embargo lifted on Civil War the reviewers didn't just stick to reviewing that movie. They drew comparisons to BvS like we normally would and then all of a sudden there was a second round of hits in on BvS.

It's an apt comparison especially for DCEU starting out and stumbling out of the gate. Look at Company A and see how they have done things, now look at Company B.

Star Wars and Star Trek get comparisons all the time and they are very different. So why not compare two movies of the same genre.

I was actually rooting for Fant4stic, after that first trailer came out and it actually looked like a cool, competently made movie, I wanted it to do well. But when the reviews came in, I didn't exactly feel hurt by it either, it just was really really funny. And all of the fans we cheering at its demise. Its something unlike I've ever seen before.

I'm curious, has anyone been around here long enough for the Catwoman (2005) embargo? :hehe:

Bashing Catwoman is what brought me from the DC boards from another site. One fan in particular, tried to post every "positive" review they could find.

no

Yeah, I've got to concur BvS really stands out above all the rest int terms of this kind of a RT meltdown. Though I think MoS was actually pretty intense too, honestly. After the trailers, people were expecting a masterpiece.

I think with BvS, it probably was the biggest gulf between the level of hype (first cinematic pairing of Batman and Superman, the launching point of the DCU) and the critical reaction people were hoping for (many fans legitimately believed it could possibly be Best Picture material because of Affleck and Terrio) and the response it ultimately got.

It was kind of surreal to see how dramatically the mood of the boards changed, and then you had things like the Sadfleck meme just putting everything over the top. I think you almost had to embrace the madness and laugh at it all, otherwise it was just depressing.
