I agree that no-one could match burton's vision, not even himself now, his ability is fading, which is a real shame.
I think Nolan's version wasn't amazing, but was quite good, not as good as Burton's, but the re-inventing was a definite neccessity.

Nolan's version wasn't a visual Batman per se, it was like a theoretical musing on how he could possibly exist. It's almost like a DIY guide on How to Become Batman.

Whereas Burton's is verging on pure fantasy. It's clearly a Burtonized view of the world, and as such Batman works without a great deal of explanation or back story. Burton is saying, "Look at this creepy apparition," whereas Nolan says, "This is how and why Bruce Wayne fights crime."

Do you mean the original oceans 11 with frank sinatra, or the george clooney one?

That was AMAZING Writing.
It was a great way to use an actress who really couldn't do anything, and make her have a huge part in the story.
Now Miranda Otto in War of The Worlds, That was poor writing.

King kong. What a loooooooooooooooooooooooong movie about a big angry monkey. I could understand Lotr being long because it has a lot of interesting story to tell, but this is about a big monkey! The fx are nice though.

 The flaw with King Kong is that it takes 3 hours to tell a 90 minute story.

I need to see it again,i remember it being engrossing,it fits in the other thread about films ppl should see that they may not know of

There's lots out there eh. What's your fav. michael Man film? Just asking coz i thought collaterall was pretty bleak, he peaked with manhunter. Brain Cox is a superb actor, and the casting of the tooth fairy was much better than that rubbish called red dragon?!

I also was very disappointed with WOTW.

I was expecting something bigger, better, more amazing and exciting from Spielberg, but I saw just a summer blockbuster like The Day After Tomorrow, but a bit better.

poor direction?........the wachowskys?!?....are you mad!!!??
sometimes i just think people hated it because they didnt get the idea:o

for me its superman returns, charlies angels full throttle, hostel, transporter 2,CASSHERN.........

what?

CASSHERN?!

Casshern is sublime.

Did I recommend it to you, BTW? I tell everyone to watch it. :D

I agree, and casshern is brilliant!

what's wrong with the original? It may be a little dated, but is still a great movie, the effects show a labour of love and don't detract away from the amazing story and peter Jackson shouldn't have re-made it, it's not necessary, the original is easy to watch than the new one anyway, what reason does he have???

(did i mention king king was hitlers fav. film?)

Blade 3 was also crap.

I must be the only person who likes Blade Trinity. Drake-ula sucks, absolutely, but the rest of the film works.

casshern was amazing, kinda weird, but really good. And i agree with your other choices, but the wachowskys are not as good as everyone thinks they are. Matrix was great, and the sequels were just shabby, fight scenes with lots of CGI stops being a fight scene, and becomes an animation. And the millions of agent smiths Vs Neo, is a terrible fight scene, they could have done lots of it with wires to make it look good, but no, they were lazy and didn't really care about the film, sad, but true.
casshern sucke...im sorry. i saw the trailer and my jaw dropped.why?...because for ONCE somebody tried to make a live action anime movie.i saw it with a bunch of friends and we all were pissed off!..the begginning was fantastic...but after that wierd lightning hit the movie went straight to hell!!!..... i actually bought the movie,im never seeing that 3hr trash again.

now the matrix is the closest thing ive ever seen to an anime, people forget that thats what there going for.i agree the cgi was horrible but they wanted to make the fighting anime-ish which is impossible to do with a camera and wires... its not right to call them lazy for that. all this movie needed was just better cgi characters which werent as available back then.

The Wachowskys are only names, but the direction sucked, IMO.

SR is vague sequel to STM, but with some elements from SII.

Vague stuff is very difficult I think.

well thats your opinion but like i said ...... they perfectly adapted the anime world into the matrix movies, and i havent seen one director to do better.

anyone see a sound of thunder?...that movie was good...but it could have been SO much better if they had decent effects:( ....they still translated it perfectly on screen though.....just bad effects:(

his reason was because he loved the original(Apparently not enough).
He should have just made the Hobbit.

I loved Collateral but my fav is Heat,a masterpiece IMO
Thief with James Caan is a good often overlooked Mann film

blade trinity has awesome lines that blade 2 lacked, like "i was born ready m*ther*****er" and "kill you? m*ther*****er i'll kill you!"
and the action was kick ass, and all the poor characters they brought in got butchered, yay!

I totally disagree,i loved WOTW,it was a change from the usual flag waving us vs aliens movie,it was a small Tale of a family set against the backdrop of an invasion with the best use of sound and the best unveiling of a threat Ive ever seen along with the best use of CGI Ive seen

heat is gd, i still prefer manhunter though, i jus love his use of the iron butterfly track, and there are some really good performances, especially from a film that it very 80's.

What's your fav kubrik film? hard to choose I know, i love barry lyndon, and 2001, but also clockwork orange, dr strangelove, and the shining, it's so hard to chose.

I loved it as well. It's just the Miranda Otto character and the end that bugged me.
