The Amazing Spider-Man Mover over Raimi! Time for Jim Cameron to take on Spidey!

http://www.**************.com/fansites/CookiepussProduction/news/?a=13876

James Cameron was set to direct "Spider-Man" back in the 1990's, he even went as far as having a script and concept art. But it all eventually fell through and Sam Raimi ended up getting the directors chair, then "Spider-Man" finally made it to cinemas in 2002.

When the news that Sony was rebooting Spider-Man hit, rumors began to float that he was in the running to direct the reboot film.

Fans immediately suggested that James Cameron direct the film. Well he just shot down any hope of that happening.

"No, no," Cameron told MTV News when asked if he'd been approached for the "Spider-Man" job. "It's a little bit sloppy seconds, let's face it."

Not that im surprised, he has stated in the past that he would have only done the film if he kicked off the entire franchise.

Are people honestly surprised by this?

Cameron will be busy with Avatar sequels because it was a HUGE success. It was foolish to even suggest him coming onto Spidey.

Uhhh havent we heard this one before?

Cameron isn't coming back to do Spider-Man, it has been obvious from the beginning and he has just made it clear. I wonder if it was loud enough for those foolish few who keep insisting they have inside info and know what they are talking about. Keep reaching for the stars.

Hell yeah to Cameron. The fact that he calls it what it is, is awesome. This scenario is in fact sloppy seconds. I'll admit I'm a bit excited to see what a new director and writing team can do but starting over with the origin...I won't say it's going to backfire but I can't wait to hear the opinions of the general audience who don't care about comic book accuracy.

Thank God :)

Avatar was a helluva film, but it's great to read you'll stay away from Spidey ;)

I laughed so hard at the fact he calls it "sloppy seconds"

didn't cameron take ridley scott's sloppy seconds?

lol yeah ,but this was the girl that he was planning to get with then it fell through and she got with someone else so he thinks she's tainted.

...also he went down the gym and got buff and now is going out with a supermodel

A Blue Supermodel that he's been trying to get with for 10 years. He's a regular Peter Parker with that Model wife of his.

I knew Cameron wouldn´t be interested. It was just fan wishful thinking. If for no other reasoh, he´s already talking about the Avatar sequel.

This does not surprise me at all. The Spider-Man reboot is a movie for a director who needs a paycheck, not one who is looking to do something amazing or revolutionary. Sony already has their script for it, and so whoever signs on is not going to be able to escape that. They're going to have to do things Sony's way or leave, and for Raimi he chose the latter. Cameron probably sees Spider-Man as being Sam Raimi's thing right now, and like he said, this reboot is just the reheated leftovers.

no....just no

How is it a sloppy second when it's a reboot? While Joel Schumacher got Tim Burton's sloppy seconds, Christopher Nolan got a reboot (in other words a blank canvas to do what he will). It would be the same deal for Cameron as it was for Nolan, however in typical fashion Cameron is just being an egotistical ass.

BTW, this doesn't mean I thought Cameron would do it, I knew he wouldn't.

The reason this can be considered sloppy seconds is because of how soon Raimi just abondoned it when it was so close to production. If a number of years went by and then a new director came on it wouldn't be sloppy seconds technically, since they had time to get away from the last films and start from the ground up giving the franchise room to breath.

With the sloppy seconds of Ridley Scott comment from another poster, that was simply a sequel in the franchise. He was still early in his career and it wasn't necessarily like Scott dropped the project so close to when it was going to be filmed, he moved on and Fox wanted a sequel not a reboot.

This slop reminds me a little bit of how Matthew Vaugn dropped out of X3 because he knew it was going to be a rush job and then Ratner picked it up after one director passed it up and another dropped out after he was going to start.

Not trying to be a Cameron apologist, just explaining why this can be considered sloppy seconds in my opinion. It's all about letting the franchise breath a little before scrapping production on a sequel that was close to filming and just going right into another reboot. As I said on the previous page, I can't wait to hear reaction and comments from the general audience after they've watched this new reboot.

BTW, given the man won´t do it anyway, this thread should probably get closed. We can use another one to speculate how his version of the franchise would have gone.

LOL! People wanted Cameron so much, they insult him for calling this reboot sloppy seconds. LOL! Funny.

I can see Cameron's point. Raimi's Spider-Man is still in the minds of the mainstream. He doesn't want to reboot a series this soon when he has so many original projects of his underway. I think a lot of high profile directors will probably feel the same way about it.
