MoviePass, Sinemia, A-List & Beyond - Subscription Theatergoing

What in the hell Moviepass? Sucks that the closest AMC is forty minutes away.

Yeah, I am not okay with the surge pricing. I have to see how this works. But it is a potential deal breaker for me.

At the moment my plan is to use amc stubs a list on weekends and movie pass on Mondays. If Regal gets one I'm kicking MP out. The surge price really annoys me.

I mean theoretically I only see about three movies a week anyway. Once on opening day, again on Saturday or Sunday and once more during nthe week if I have time.

I noticed a new update that allows you to do three unlisted movies a month now, which can technically let you rewatch stuff if need be.

They still haven't said how much they will raise the price.

Anyone else having more issues than normal with the app? Yesterday, it crashed on me when checking into a movie 6 times before it worked and I have had it crash when taking my stub picture twice in 2 weeks. It only ever happened 1 time prior. But this time was inconvenient cause I was not prompted again for a picture until 3 days later...when I was going to a movie!

Anyone read the email about peak pricing?

Yeah, but I didn't care much because I use my MoviePass for weekday matinees, since I work on weekends anyway. If I'm seeing something opening night, it's usually something I'm excited for so I buy tix in advance and see it in IMAX or Dolby.

Speaking of IMAX, weird thing happened with me a few days ago: I used my MoviePass on Ant-Man & The Wasp, did the check-in thing as usual, but then when I went to buy the ticket at the kiosk, that show turned out to be an IMAX show, which wasn't indicated at all on the MoviePass app. Still used the card on the show, and ended up having to pay the difference, which was like $2+. Took a pic of my ticket stub and submitted it like normal, so I thought maybe this was that new thing I'd heard about where MoviePass allows you to see premium shows for an added fee (which I hadn't realized had gone into effect). But now when I look at my app, Ant-Man & The Wasp is still an option for me to see, and that movie isn't in my history at all. Like it never happened. I certainly ain't complaining, but now it appears to have been a glitch and I hope it doesn't come back to bite me as misuse or something, because the app let me do it and I saw the correct show that I had selected and submitted the stub.

Yeah I've had glitches like that before and I end up paying the difference.

Were those recent occurrences, Kane, or has it been going on for a while? I just can't help but wonder if they aren't low-key testing out that premium show option without telling us, lol.

For me this first happened months ago. Recently it happened back in May.

My app was acting up where it wouldn't show any showtimes for movies at my theater. I was still able to check in but it didn't know for what movie so I can still watch those films again lol.

Mine would shut down when attempting to get a picture of the stub.

The end is nigh.

Helios & Matheson, the parent company of movie ticket subscription service MoviePass, has been dismissing talk of any money issues the service has for several months – even as its stock price tanks and its reserves dwindle.

Now it’s getting really serious as last night MoviePass subscribers from all over the country found their attempts to go see “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” were blocked as their MoviePass app wouldn’t allow them to check-in. Business Insider reports that in an SEC filing on Friday, the company admitted they had to borrow $5 million in cash to take care of a ‘service interruption’ on Thursday.

Essentially MoviePass was unable to make required payments to credit card processors when customers use the MasterCard-backed MoviePass card to purchase tickets at theaters. Yes, they ran out of money. The filing says:
“The $5.0 million cash proceeds received from the Demand Note will be used by the Company to pay the Company’s merchant and fulfilment processors. If the Company is unable to make required payments to its merchant and fulfilment processors, the merchant and fulfilment processors may cease processing payments for MoviePass, Inc. (‘MoviePass’), which would cause a MoviePass service interruption. Such a service interruption occurred on July 26th 2018.”
Throughout last night, the subscription service tweeted that the problem was due to technical issues and they were “diligently working to resolve the issue”. ‘Fallout’ tickets reportedly were blocked at big chain theaters like AMC, Regal and Cinemark. MoviePass partner theaters such as Landmark, however, are still working.

The outage isn’t expected to have any impact on “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” sales with the film snagging a record $6 million Thursday night preview haul for Cruise.

Yeah they are starting to fall apart money wise. That surge pricing was the last straw.

Honestly, if I were them, I would just stick to indie films. Movie Pass started off great because most people could finally see movies they don't usually see in a theater. They should stick to that rather than letting millions of people watch the big blockbuster of the week.

It's gotten to the point where if i do use my moviepass it's only on Mondays and for indies. I use AMC Stubs A List for big films on weekends. The surge pricing really was a "hell no" type situation.

Yeah instead of surge pricing they should be limiting movies that don't go over 3,000 screens.

I've yet to have a problem since the updates. My theater has e-tickets so no surge pricing, showtimes haven't been blacked out either.

So MoviePass is just imploding now lol.

I haven't used mine since the surge pricing was implemented. Pretty miffed about it because the year subscription people don't have to worry about surge pricing and when I signed up there wasn't even a year subscription package so I feel like I'm getting screwed. Probably gonna dump MoviePass before the month's over.
