Movies that were so popular by being likes and talked about that you got sick of...

Yes I am being nit picky. I could be nit picky over Iron Man and not find a glaring fault in the same mold as the bus thing.

Yes all films have flaws, but TDK fans are a breed of fans who will strenuously deny any flaw in the movie. Not saying you are, but some TDK fans are a different breed.

To me its because I don't see those flaws, as the bus thing as being flaws. But to eaches own. But no not all TDK fans are like that. Even Joker who just posted above, he is a great fan of it. There are some, and its sad that you joined after this, but there are and were lots of great TDK fans that posted here before. But each popular movie/comic is going to have bad fans and good fans, its everywhere.

I apologize for the fanboy thing, got a little heated. But as you will see in my previous post, I believe some TDK fans are a different breed of fans. Not saying you are, but they are.

This is probably THE main reason for the recent TDK backlash. Because these, "fans" are ****ing obsessive and annoying, on par with Twilight fans. There is a reason why so many people avoid the Bat boards. Granted it ain't that bad now. But when the next movie starts production, it will all start up again.

But as I've said I'm not on a TDK backlash tip, I'm just pointing out what I genuinely believe are flaws and why I don't think it should be called a masterpiece. And also as I've said, I do think TDK is a great film. But it is not the holy be all and end all like some people like to believe.

That's cool dude, I know your a chill dude. I'm glad that was just a flare and not how you felt lol.

I understand we each have our views of what is flaws and not. And I dont' condemn you for that at all my friend. And yes I think with anything popular Star Wars, Twilight, Harry Potter there does come some really odd people lol.

But there are tons of people that are legit like me, that were here way before the TDK hype, I originally joined in 03 as you can tell under a different name of course. But regardless there are bad fans in anything, and the more popular something is the more fans there are and the more "bad ones there are just due to the law of proportions"

But there are a lot in the film industry/ciritcs as well that praise this movie, and still do. So it is a big film. And I think will go down in the ages. But it is to eaches opinion. You may not think this, and that is cool.

I'm just glad we can continue to discuss on a civil level, because I do enjoy conversing with you. Especially on the Alien sex/rape thing against Celtic Predator lol. We could go back to that thread if you want? lol.

HAHA yea he does seem a little enamoured with that whole "alien rapist" theory. Quite troubling :D

And that's all cool man. Yea every big thing has good fans and bad fans.

For the record though, I do think TDK will go down in history, well it sorta hasta, considering how much moolah it made! But seriously, I do think it is a great film, I've never denied that. Originally I started off in this thread saying I don't find it that ENJOYABLE though, that doesn't mean I think it less of a film, I don't think TDK is intended to be enjoyable in the traditional sense.

And we have gotten a little off topic. But yea, the main reason there is a bit of a backlash over TDK is the Twilight-esque TDK fans. The ones who turn up in other movie threads and are like "Oh well, it won't be/it ain't as good as TDK".

Let's go back to Alien/Penis talk. :oldrazz:

oh..it's one of 'those' type of trends. I'm gonna run for the hills.

The Dark Knight (more after it came out, good film but no masterpiece)
Napoleon Dynamite
Spiderman 2
Superman II
300
The Godfather (don't get me wrong a great well made film but maybe not as amazing as people say)
Shrek (1 & 2 more so 2)

Yeah Napolean Dynamite wasnt all that I didnt get the uber-love lol

maybe i'm the type of person who gets happy when a movie gets attention. Even if people are overhyping it, i tend to ignore them anyway. in most cases, i'm only human after all. or am i?

Im gonna throw out some films that get a ton of love and overhype this year that I didnt think deserved it

500 Days of Summer- Im sorry but is is a romantic comedy and its just dressed in various cliched indie-cinema stylitics

Zombieland- Seriously, again with the narration cliches? You felt like this was done before (and using Jesse Eisenberg in the main role didnt shake off that percpetion). The majority of the film was kinda dull and there was very little zombie kills. Whats good?

Adventureland- This movie was way too boring. I think its one of those movies thats too personal to the director for everyone to releate to. People who grew up in the 80's say they loved it. But it felt very uneventful.

Inglorious Basterds- Yeah I said it. I get the gimmick of the film, but even with that, theres was nothing shockingly amazing about it. Quiten shot it well, but the storyline was just all over the place and you never got a sense of connection.

I'm the same way. I like it. I ignore most of them anywyas. But I get happy when something I love gets attention. But anywho lol.

I also think that, because of the lameness of 2009's movies thus far, movies like these have a higher appeal. I like them all actually, but I think if they were placed in a better year (2007 for example) they might of have lost in the shuffle. Maybe excluding Basterds.

I don't like it however, if someone makes something up, only to try to prove their argument. Either from sheer lunacy or ignorance.

Yea, that is never a good thing. But that seems to be the nature of the Internets. lol.

that's why those people need to go out more often. i can only tolerate so much. haha

Agreed, socializing out in the real world is a good thing, and many more need to do it lol.

Flaws are subjective. A person can't deny a flaw if it can't be seen to them.

And TDK fanboys are no different then fanboys of other popular works.

So if you was a civilian in the street or one of those cars (and it was PACKED), you wouldn't notice a bus smashing out of a bank? And you wouldn't try to notify the police that are like, 2 seconds away? Or there wouldn't be a crowd gathered around a massive hole in the wall of the bank?

C'mon man, that was flawed. It was a great concept and shows Joker is a genius, but it was ridiculous considering the film aims for that "realism"

I never got the fake or ridiculous nature of that scene as others did.

To me it was fairly simple. Yes, people will notice this big school bus driving out the front of a bank and try to call it in.

The thing is, just like comics at times, all you have to do is use your imagination and a tad bit of common sense(not saying you don't have any of course). Joker could have easily turned off on any side street and headed to a safe house/place...or that place he has the mob meet him at the docks and ditched the bus for another vehicle before hand. There are numerous possibilities how he could have gotten away with it.

People complained a whole lot about how BB spelled too much out for them with dialogue and whatnot, personally a lot of complaints and so called "plot holes" people complained about TDK were things they left to the imagination and weren't hard to figure or guess what could have happened. I guess we could have gotten more dialogue like in BB spelling everything out for the audience to fill in those gaps.

Just like how people complain how Joker snuck the explosions on the ferries for example or what's his face snuck a gun into court. Gotham's police force is corrupted in a big way by the mob, Gotham is supposed to be the dirtiest crime ridden city in the world where there wasn't much hope until Batman/Dent came on the scene. As Joker was slowly taking over/dismantling the mob and recruiting people(using the help of Maroni as well, Rodriguez and Wertz for example)the cops/security easily could have allowed the gun into the court room(much like in the comics Maroni was able to bring in a bottle filled with acid)and helped load up the ferries with the explosives before the captains/drivers came on board.

That's just my take on it and why those scenes didn't bother me at all. Especially when Joker does stuff like that in the comics and it doesn't show you how he sets up his grand schemes all the time.

The Dark Knight
Love it, but it's just so overrated I get sick of hearing about it. I still prefer Burton's Batman films more.

Twilight
This isn't even good. I'll never understand why screwing up the vampire genre was cool. Got to say, I love those Animorphs in Twilight 2.

I mean werewolves.

This thread will morph into a Dark Knight hate thread.

The haters talk about the Dark Knight more than the lovers, you know its true.

Good post. My answer to this thread ironically enough is The Dark Knight. It's more a situation where I wish people would just stop talking about it, good or bad. I'm sick of the haters whining about the fanboys and I'm sick of the fanboys claiming it's the best movie ever and so forth. I just want it to be another movie alongside Batman Begins that I can simply enjoy without seeing all this nonsense bickering on various forums about it. I'm also sick of people claiming Ledger's death is the only reason it made a bunch of money. That is an insult to Batman Begins, which was a great marketing tool for TDK in the first place. It's also an insult to Ledger and everyone involved with the film.

If it wasn't for Heath Ledgers Joker, TDK would be nothing.

The Joker is a plot device. Why does this bother you? The shark is a plot device in Jaws. Anton Chigurh is a plot device in No Country For Old Men. Those movies would be "nothing" without those characters as well. The Dark Knight has a ton of flaws, but this criticism you're bringing up isn't a flaw at all in my opinion. My main problems with the film are:

  • The length (20 minutes too long).
  • The editing (scene transitions were often choppy).
  • The Batman voice (Nolan is just as much at fault because post-production processing was applied...I'm sick of people blaming Bale 100% for this problem).
  • The lame scene at the beginning where Scarecrow makes a brief appearance.
  • The lame action climax (SWAT/Sonar/ferry boats).
  • Quite a bit of the dialogue (in particular for minor characters).
